Day 28
Who: Andy Gallagher, George Lass, Illyana Rasputin and OTA
When: Day 28, evening
What: Andy makes good on his offer to meet up for video games with George
Rating: TBA, but probably PG-13 to R for language
Status: Incomplete

After writing in his journal about going to meet George in the Entertainment Room, Andy grinned. It was kind of cool being able to write in the little book and know that everyone could see it, even if it did get him into a small spot of trouble before. Convenient and easy.

"Hey, room, I need some munchies...I plan on being down there for a while," he announced to no one as he headed into the bathroom to take a shower. George might not be interested...but she might be, too, and Andy had no idea. Might as well look and smell nice, at least. Hey, you never know.

Hopping out of the shower and getting dressed, Andy was pleased and not entirely surprised to see a few bags of chips, some packaged cookies, and some cheese sticks alongside a six pack of beer and another of soda waiting on his mattress. "Thanks," he said, again to no one, as he stuffed the goodies into a backpack which was also on the mattress, even if he hadn't asked for it.

It took a few minutes to get his bearings, because he'd never really looked for the Entertainment Room (he'd just somehow known it was there), but once he figured out where he was and where he was headed, Andy was well on his way. When he got to the room, it was still empty and, figuring he'd given such a vague time in the journal that maybe no one had shown just yet, he made himself comfortable on one of the sofas and turned on the Nintendo Wii. The television came to life all on its own, it would seem.

Strapping the remote around his wrist, Andy decided to test his fitness on the Wii Sports game while he waited...since that was the only game he'd ever played and was familiar enough not to look like an idiot playing.

George shrugged, and played her tenth frame without that much of a soul. Still, she knocked back a considerable amount of pins, and grinned. She handed the remote to Illyana.

"Oh. Mario Kart? Is that what you mean? Because that game is shit." She said, sitting back down on the couch.

Last frame. Illyana took the remote and tried to make it count. First throw was a gutter ball, and she scowled at the remote. The final shot scraped four pins down as it careened toward the gutter. She cursed in Russian, then tossed Andy the remote.

"What's this Mario cart game?" she asked, still slightly annoyed at her less-than-stellar final frame. She downed a good half of her soda to try and calm down. She plopped back down on the couch, and glanced between George and Andy. "Isn't Mario the guy who has to rescue the princess from the demonic turtle guy?"

"I haven't played it on the Wii, but yeah that's the one," Andy replied to George. "Nice shot, by the way," he added with a smile. "I don't know if it's the same or if it's different," he went on, "but I'm kinda itchin' to give it a try..."

His attention from George was torn away when Illyana said something in a different language. He laughed. "Did you just say something naughty?" he joked.

Illyana asked who Mario was and Andy looked over at George. "Dude, she's for real old school," he said, grinning as he turned to look back at Illyana. "Yeah, King Koopa or Bowser or whatever he was called back then, that's the one. Only, the closer to my time you get from your time, the more games there are that use the Mario characters in a completely different way than that," he said. "Shit, there's, like, Mario Tennis - oh man, did you ever play the virtual Gameboy?" he asked, turning back to George as a wave of nostalgia washed over him.

He looked back at Illyana. "Uh Mario Tennis, Mario Party...Super Smash Brothers..." he went on as if he'd never interrupted himself. "Tons of stuff. The Mario Brothers aren't just for saving Princess Toadstool anymore," he finished with a smirk.

"Mario? Mario was the shit way back when. Sonic, too, but Mario, dude." George grinned, and for the first time in what seemed like forever, she remembered her childhood fondly. It felt weird to her that Illyana, who for all intents and purposes seemed their age, didn't know the phenomenon in the same light she and Andy did. "I played a whole bunch of Mario shit, I don't even remember anymore!"

George was grinning, and having fun. Who knew after all that time she would finally smile about her childhood? After all, it all seemed like a blurry ball of nothingness every time she thought about it.

Were she a more self-conscious girl, Illyana might have blushed that Andy caught her out on swearing. But she wasn't. "I might have," she said slyly. "But I might have said something completely innocuous as well. I might have said 'the chips are tasty'." She smirked to let both him and George know she'd said nothing of the sort.

She was glad that she'd made the right connection regarding Mario. She only knew because of some of the kids in Salem Center, really. Doug had had a system, of course, and she'd played once or twice, when they had time, but never seriously and never with a mind to think knowledge of it would come in handy one day. She had no clue if it was Bowser or Koopa that Mario fought, or what the Princess was called. But she had no clue what "Sonic" was.

"Was Sonic like Mario?" she asked George. "Something for the home video games, or something for the arcade?"

"Oh man, yeah, fuckin' Sonic the Hedgehog, yes!" Andy said excitedly, gesticulating his excitement out with his hands. "God Sonic was cool," he added with a grin.

Looking back at Illyana, he caught the sly tone in her voice and the smirk on her face. "Suuure ya did," he teased when she suggested she might have said something innocuous. He winked.

"Sonic was, uh...yeah, kinda like Mario only not a person; a hedgehog. And he wasn't for Nintendo, he was for...uh, shit, Sega Genesis, right, George? Jesus, it's been a long time," he laughed.
