Day 28
Who: Andy Gallagher, George Lass, Illyana Rasputin and OTA
When: Day 28, evening
What: Andy makes good on his offer to meet up for video games with George
Rating: TBA, but probably PG-13 to R for language
Status: Incomplete

After writing in his journal about going to meet George in the Entertainment Room, Andy grinned. It was kind of cool being able to write in the little book and know that everyone could see it, even if it did get him into a small spot of trouble before. Convenient and easy.

"Hey, room, I need some munchies...I plan on being down there for a while," he announced to no one as he headed into the bathroom to take a shower. George might not be interested...but she might be, too, and Andy had no idea. Might as well look and smell nice, at least. Hey, you never know.

Hopping out of the shower and getting dressed, Andy was pleased and not entirely surprised to see a few bags of chips, some packaged cookies, and some cheese sticks alongside a six pack of beer and another of soda waiting on his mattress. "Thanks," he said, again to no one, as he stuffed the goodies into a backpack which was also on the mattress, even if he hadn't asked for it.

It took a few minutes to get his bearings, because he'd never really looked for the Entertainment Room (he'd just somehow known it was there), but once he figured out where he was and where he was headed, Andy was well on his way. When he got to the room, it was still empty and, figuring he'd given such a vague time in the journal that maybe no one had shown just yet, he made himself comfortable on one of the sofas and turned on the Nintendo Wii. The television came to life all on its own, it would seem.

Strapping the remote around his wrist, Andy decided to test his fitness on the Wii Sports game while he waited...since that was the only game he'd ever played and was familiar enough not to look like an idiot playing.

George smiled at the TV, and at Andy and Illynana. It could be fun. Why wouldn't it be fun?

She tried to control the controller - well that was new - and with a little difficulty, she finally mastered it enough to make a little toon of herself.

"There. That's me." She said, with an accomplished smile. "Are we bowling? 'Cause I can bowl. Kinda."

Illyana wandered around to the couch and plopped herself down on the left. She took the remote from Andy and looked at it, trying to figure out exactly what it did. It would be right up Doug's alley, she knew. Well, since he couldn't ever enjoy it, she'd have to do it for him. Better way to remember her late friend than to dwell on the Ani-Mator, definitely.

She watched George for clues as to how the remote actually worked, and when it was her turn, she made a little computer doll that looked roughly like her. She gave it the blue and yellow color scheme of the New Mutants' uniforms for a bit of whimsy.

"This isn't as hard as it looked at first," she remarked. It was definitely harder than Donkey Kong, but mostly because the remote was more sensitive than a joystick. It was sort of like a giant joystick, and the buttons were on the stick itself. It might not be too bad.

She looked over at George and grinned. "Bowling? I can bowl kinda as well." At least some hobbies seemed to have lasted past the 80s.

Andy grinned at the way the pointing finger trembled as it skittered across the screen until the girls got the hang of the remote. Good. He wasn't the only one who had that problem, then. It made him feel better, since he'd been acting the expert when, really, he was far from it.

When the girls were finished making the miniature animated versions of themselves, Andy looked back and forth between the two of them. They wanted to bowl? Of all the damn sports, they wanted to do the one he sucked at most. He deflated a little.

"Man, I suck at bowling, you guys are gonna kick my butt," he laughed, deciding that being a poor sport was definitely not going to endear anyone to spend more time with him in the future.

Still. Two against one; majority. Andy stood up again and moved the pointing finger around on the screen and went through the appropriate menu screens until he'd selected the bowling game. He was still player one, so instead of watching the other two go first and maybe feeling better that they had perhaps the same problem he did with Wii bowling, he had to go first and set an example...of sorts.

He took a few steps away from the couch so that he wouldn't unintentionally smack one of them in the face as he moved and then drew his arm back, pressing the necessary buttons, and swung it forward again, his Mii releasing the ball. Which, of course, hooked to the right and landed in the gutter. Andy's face went red and he made a conscious effort not to swear as the game set up his second turn. He adjusted the pointer to start to the far left of the screen and mimed throwing the bowling ball again, only marginally relieved to see the ball knock three of the furthest right pins down.

"Told ya I suck," he laughed, stepping back and dropping down on the couch between them again.

George took the remote from Andy again, not as sure of her bowling capacities as she previously had been. This had nothing to do with actual bowling, the weight, the texture and definitely the shape of what she needed to play with were completely different things.

Still, she tried her best, but the precise moment in which she was supposed to release the button was far from when she actually released it. It seemed to take some movement - again nothing to do with a bowling ball. The same thing that happened to Andy, happened to her, too.

"Oh. Great." She said, rolling her eyes. "I suppose it takes practice..."

Smiling faintly, she handed the control over to Illyana and sat down next to Andy.

Illyana watched the two attempts at bowling carefully, confused as to what exactly was going on. It was very different from the gaming that she was used to. She took the remote from George with a smirk. "Let's see if we can make it three for three," she said.

She stared at the buttons for a moment, trying to figure out which one was the release. The first time she tried to throw a ball, she pushed it way too soon, and it ended up a gutter ball. The second time, she was farther over than she'd expected, but she managed to release the ball so that it actually went down the lane. One pin on the very far right edge fell over. But it was better than none. "I actually hit something!" she said, half in amazement. "This is gonna take a while to get used to," she said as she turned and offered the remote to Andy.

Andy felt marginally better that neither of the girls seemed to be having much more luck than he had. Although, he had to give Illyana credit since she'd been from a time when video games were controlled by joysticks. She was doing pretty well, considering, he thought.

"Nice work!" he praised, grinning at Illyana.

"I think just like anything, it takes practice," he thought aloud in response to George as he took the remote back from Illyana to have another turn. He did a bit better that time, picking up a spare.

Holding the remote back out to George, he grinned. "After this, I think we're gonna have to play a game we can all play at once. There's gotta be some..."

"Nice!" She told Illyana after she'd been the first to actually get the ball rolling.

George then watched Andy, and when she took the remote from him, she did it with absolutely no confidence, but she tried anyway.

She concentrated really hard on her hand movement and though it wasn't a strike, at least the ball didn't end in the gutter. It hit a few of the front pins.

"Well, that's not bad." She said smiling. Then, she decided to try to have a beer. Though the taste was dreadful, it was really fresh, so she took a big sip. "Ahhhh, ew. Here." She handed Illyana the remote.

Illyana grinned at the praise the others gave her. It was a small victory, learning how to wield the remote, but the friendly words reminded her of the New Mutants at home. Dani and Sam would have been happy for her as well.

"Good one!" she said as Andy managed a spare. Watching him and George, she was starting to figure out how to hold her wrist and how to move so the remote would work. She watched George manage to knock down a few pins. "Excellent!"

She raised an eyebrow as George handed her the remote. "Ahhhh" and "ew" weren't usually sounds she heard referring to the same thing at the same time by the same person. More reason to stick to the soda. "Thanks," she said as she took the remote. She turned and faced the television screen, concentrating more than the game probably warranted. She twisted her wrist slightly and then swung her hand forward, hitting the button when her hand was about level with her belly button. The ball released and went sideways -too much twist - hitting a few of the side pins on the left. She grinned. At least she'd hit them. On her next swing, she managed another pin, bringing her total for the round to four.

"By the tenth frame, I might hit them all," she said, smirking, as she passed the remote to Andy. She grabbed a handful of chips on her way back to the couch.

"Hey, there ya go, champ," Andy joked as George took a beer. He laughed when she vocalized her distaste for it. "Ah, it's not so bad. It's an acquired taste. Don't be a wimp," he teased, winking.

George had the hang of the game, now, and as he watched Illyana, it looked to him like she was kind of figuring it out, too. Great, in no time they'd be pulling off strikes and he'd be cursing over seven-ten spares he couldn't pick up.

"Tenth frame? Psh, you're startin' to clean 'em up already. Give it two or three more and you'll be kicking our asses; you catch on quick!" Andy replied to Illyana as he took the remote from her.

As he readied himself to take his turn, Andy's eyes scanned over the other games there. "No shit, Mario Kart?! Are you kidding me? I bet that shit has steering wheels and everything!" he breathed before taking his turn and pumping his fist with triumph as he got a strike. "YES! About time, man!" he said more to himself than to the girls. Turning back, he held the remote out to George. "You're up," he announced unnecessarily with a smirk.

George smirked at Andy as she took the remote.

"I take it you're not too happy about playing bowling?" She asked, moving in front of the television. It wasn't special, her game, but it worked. A few more pins this time. She wondered if there were any games where the character had a baseball bat and kicked everyone else's ass. If there was, she'd have to try it sometime.

"Here you go, Illyana." She said, handing it over. "Before he forces us to play something else out of embarrassment."

Illyana had doubts about kicking everyone's ass by the tenth frame. She'd really just be happy to not do embarrassingly horribly. So she made sure to watch her opponents carefully when it wasn't her turn.

She smirked when George handed her the remote. "He wouldn't," she said as she rose and headed over to the TV. "That would be admitting defeat. Most men I know don't like doing that."

Even if 'Berto were the worst player at a game like this, he'd still play to the end. He was the most stubborn male she knew, and didn't lose gracefully. She snickered, thinking of 'Berto playing something like this, as she threw her first ball. Less wrist-twisting this time, and the ball went more-or-less down the side in a straight line, knocking out four pins. She smirked again.

"This isn't so bad," she said, taking her second shot. This one went too wide and ended up in the gutter, causing Illyana to scowl. "Then again...." She turned to Andy and tossed the control at him. "Heads up!" she said.

"Bowling's not really my thing," Andy admitted to George. "Out of all the sports on this game, I'd pick baseball over bowling any day, but it's not so bad." He grinned at her.

When Illyana took the remote and made a remark about him not quitting the game because it'd be admitting defeat, Andy laughed. "Wise words," he joked. "I might suck at this game, but I'm no quitter," he added with a smirk.

He caught the remote easily when Illyana tossed it to him and took his turn, managing to pick up another spare, although it had been kind of a cop out when one of the pins he'd actually hit had rolled around in a circle and nudged one that he'd missed over. He couldn't complain, though.

Andy held the remote out to George. "After this game, we'll have to try somethin' else I don't suck at," he said, only half joking.

George smirked, one eyebrow lifted, as she took the remote from Andy again.

She quickly played her turn - not so bad, but not great, by any means - and turned around, giving Illyana the remote again. "You're still too good at this." She told her, trying hard not to spew as she took another sip of her cold, cold beer.
Good thing the planet kept the drinks chilled, at least.

Then, George turned to Andy. "Well, what do you have in mind? What don't you suck at?" She smirked, sort of guessing what his answer might be.
