Gray Arrives

Gray could hardly see for the pain from his beating for stealing food as a guard shoved him into his cell for the night. Oh he had known better, he really had, but the little scrap of fish left from his owners' extravagant dinner mixed with not eating anything for nearly three days made him abandon his training for that brief second. What made the beating particularly sting is that he hadn't even gotten the morsel to his mouth. So along with his stomach cramping from hunger his back was now bloody and raw and the offending hand broken.

The young boy curled up on the hard rock floor and cried silently, wondering if anyone would ever come to rescue him. "Mama...Papa...Big Brother....Where are you?" He whispered, closing his eyes and trying to sleep despite the discomfort and pain.

He dreamt of Boeshane and its night time chill, the scent of it ocean air and the sounds of home. It was a bitter sweet dream one that lead to confusion when he woke up to a bitter cold. Gray slowly opened his eyes and looked around in utter surprise and loss as he stared out at a field of snow in front of him and buildings behind him.

Where in the Universe was he?

Andy looked up when Rose knocked and let out the breath he didn't even realize he'd been holding as she let herself in and introduced herself to Gray. He looked back at Gray. "She's safe," he reminded Gray. "She won't hurt you, either."

He stood up and put his hands on his head, pacing slightly. "Gray, you gonna be okay eating that fish by yourself in here if I talk to Rose in the bathroom for a sec? I can lock the bedroom door so no one else can come in, if you want and we'll just be right over there," he said, pointing to the bathroom door a few feet away and across the room.

I'd just talk to you like this, but I'm not sure you can talk back to me, he thought to Rose. I can send, but I don't know if you can and I feel like briefing you in front of the kid would be a bad idea...because, well, I'm fucking freaked out right now and I don't want to panic him more, he admitted to her silently.

His eyes never left Gray's face even as he spoke silently to Rose. He was getting better with the mind thing without really trying. Maybe it was because he felt like he needed it.

Gray had jumped as Rose came in, remaining tense as the woman introduced herself with gentle smile that only to served to relax him a small bit. He answered the woman back. "I'm Gray, Lady Rose..."

"She's safe, she won't hurt you, either."

The boy relaxed fully, watching Andy as he started to pace slightly. Gray nodded slightly as the man asked he'd be alright before returning to his food, sensing the tension radiating from the man. "I'll be fine...Tha...thank you Andy."
