Who: Ianto Jones and Jack Harkness
When: Day 27
What: Ianto finds out Jack got deposited on Mirage. Again.
Rating: NC-17. Slash ahoy!
Status: Complete

In the morning, Ianto woke up to find the other side of his bed empty. The sheets had been rumpled where he'd been lying. That was odd. Usually when Jack got up, Ianto woke shortly after. Ianto went about going through his usual morning ritual. Jack wasn't in the room and his coat was gone so he must have stepped out. Why so early in the morning, Ianto didn't know.

As the day went on and Jack didn't come back, Ianto ventured out of the room to find something to do. He'd found a journal with an invitation to a party in front of the door, along with one for Jack. The journal would be nice. Ianto liked having a diary to write things down in. He'd left Jack's on the little desk in the room, setting it out so Jack would see it if he came back before Ianto.

Ianto holed himself up in the library once again, trying to find a book he hadn't read yet. To be honest, he was getting a bit bored with nothing exciting happening lately. Wondering if the planet could hear his thoughts since it seemed to give you anything you wanted, Ianto dryly thought that if the planet wanted to make something happen again to please let it not involve being kidnapped. Ianto did not want to repeat that again.

Eventually Ianto found something and read through it all the way. He decided to check the room again to see if Jack was back before heading to the party. Maybe that was where Jack had been the whole entire time. Probably making new friends, Ianto thought with amusement.

He went back to the room and walked in to find Jack standing inside, wearing his coat and looking like he'd just arrived. "There you are. I was wondering where you went." Then the smell hit him. Ianto wrinkled his nose in distaste. "Ugh, god, you stink. Where the hell have you been?" His coat looked wet and Ianto reached out to place a hand against it. "You're wet too. Give me your coat, I'll take care of it," he said with a frown.

Ianto just looked at Jack for a long moment, wondering what the hell was going on. He'd been with Jack but Jack had been with him? It made no sense. Unless... the Planet did pull people from different points in time. And people did disappear. Perhaps they went back to where they came from? Maybe that was what had happened and Jack had been, for some reason, taken back again. That, or this Jack or the Jack before had been some creepy doppelganger. Ianto doubted the later. He knew Jack. It had been Jack before and he was fairly sure it was Jack in front of him now.

Well. There was one sure way to find out. Not saying a word, Ianto fisted a hand in Jack's coat, pulled him forward, and kissed him.

Jack watched as Ianto thought things through. He'd always loved that about the younger man, the way he just turned things over and over in his mind until he came up with an answer. He'd been wasted at Torchwood 1 and to be honest he'd been wasted in Cardiff until the whole thing with Lisa came to a head. Once he'd calmed down and started thinking again, Jack had realised the kind of intelligence and skill it took to do what Ianto had. That had been a powerful motivator for Jack to work hard to get them both past that whole mess.

The kiss took him a bit by surprise but he certainly didn't object, returning it with interest as he wrapped his arms around Ianto. Those moments when Ianto took the initiative in their relationship were always a tremendous turn on. As he explored Ianto's mouth, he slid one hand down his back until it was covering Ianto's arse then he pulled them closer together.

After they kissed, Ianto was sure it was Jack. The hand on his arse left no doubt about it. This was Jack. Sensing that Jack was getting a bit... carried away, Ianto pulled back with a gasp. "Wait, wait.." he said, disentangling himself from his lover's arms. "I want to show you something. I need to show you something. Before we do anything else."

Ianto walked over to where he kept his diary and picked it up, opening it to the very beginning, the entry he'd made when he'd first arrived on Mirage. "Here." He turned the book around and handed it, open, to Jack. "Read."

As Jack read, Ianto noticed that now he had sewer smell on him and water had soaked into his coat. Smiling a little, he removed his winter coat and placed it on the back of a chair to be washed later with Jack's.

The entry read:

Today I arrived at a place called Mirage. Jack tells me that it’s apparently sentient and pulls people randomly from different places and points in time. That would probably explain why Jack doesn’t remember anything about what happened with the Daleks. He remembers Tosh and Owen being… gone but nothing much farther along after that.

I was surprised to find out that Jack was here. I’m not sure how exactly he could have been here this whole entire time if he was taken from the point he said he was, when he never was gone after that. The last thing I remember is waiting for him to come back after the Daleks almost destroyed everything.

In regards to that, we had words. I thought perhaps that he had left with the Doctor and come here, abandoned us again, but I was wrong. I was so very wrong. I have no doubt whatsoever anymore that Jack would just leave like that again. I believe him when he says “I came back for you.” He started getting rather… dashing and romantic (I am never letting him read this) when he said that home was wherever I was. He does have a way with people.

I told him quite a few things. I told him how we defeated the Daleks. I told him how when I thought that I was going to die, I wished I had asked if he wanted to move into my home. He said ‘Why wait?’ and suggested we share a room here at Mirage. I have to say that him being here has made this sudden transition largely more bearable. He also said that his old RAF uniform was back in his room. I look forward to seeing him in it and getting him out of it.

Jack’s been here for eight days. He missed me. He said he needed me. The last time I saw him was only some hours ago and I was already missing him. I’m glad we found each other. It felt like the first time that we were straight out honest with each other… so I told him. I told him what Darren did to me, that I was raped, and I told him that I loved him.

Jack said he loved me. I know he does but I never expected to hear him say it. He said that even though he flirts with people (something I think he will never stop doing) but that he’s been faithful. He’ll never know just how much, coming especially from him, that means to me.

He said he was scared because I was going to die one day. I told him that if I ever found a way to remain at his side, I would take it without a second thought. That seemed to scare him even more, but there is nothing I wouldn’t do to stay with him forever. I worry about him sometimes. Even with Gwen and I, even when Tosh and Owen were still with us, even with Martha, he still seems so… lonely at times. I never want him to be on his own. I hope the Doctor will take care of him if there comes I time when I can’t be there for him… but after all Jack’s told me about the Doctor, I don’t trust the man enough. He’s saved the world and I believe him to be a good person but I don’t trust him to take care of Jack. I don’t care if Jack doesn’t want me to. I will find a way to stay with him, somehow, because my biggest fear is him being alone again.

Ianto wasn't sure what Jack would make of the entry. Feeling nervous, he went to the little coffee machine and started to make two cups. By the time Jack was done reading, Ianto had a hot cup of coffee waiting for him.

Jack made a noise of protest when Ianto started to pull away and made to drag him back in but Ianto evaded his hands and that was when what the other man was saying sunk in. Before he could say anything, Ianto was back with a diary which he opened and offered to Jack.

He gave Ianto a quizzical look then looked down and started to read. He glanced up in surprise when he read that he'd been here before before going back to the diary. So his speculation was right except he hadn't come from the future, he'd come from his past, from just after Tosh and Owen died. But if that was right then why didn't he remember it?

He kept reading and felt hurt that Ianto hadn't believed him when he'd said he was coming back when he'd left to help the Doctor. Of course he was going to come back and it seemed the self that had been here had told Ianto why. His eyes widened slightly when he saw that he'd suggested they share a room. He'd thought about suggesting something of the sort for a while, since Tosh and Owen died, but hadn't quite known how to say it. He'd been intending to say something after he'd gotten back from helping the Doctor but still hadn't worked out how to say it.

He suddenly drew in a sharp breath and rage flashed across his face for a moment. So he was right about the rape. He thought he'd read those body language signs right. When he got back to Earth, he was going to find this Darren and retcon him back to oblivion.

He was brought back to reality when he read that he'd actually told Ianto he loved him and had been faithful. Then blanched when he read that Ianto wanted to find a way to stay with him forever. No, he didn't want to inflict Ianto with his own curse.

When he finally finished reading, he stayed where he was, staring down at the diary for a long moment until the smell of coffee brought him out of his thoughts. He raised his head and saw that Ianto had made coffee and he picked up the cup, taking a long gulp, savouring the unique taste that only Ianto seemed to be able to create.

"It's all true," he said after a moment's silence. "Everything the other... everything I said to you before." He put the diary down and cupped Ianto's cheek with his free hand. "I don't know why I don't remember it. I wish I did. Hell, I don't even remember being here on my own." He leaned in a bit closer. "And I do love you. I used to find it so easy to say that." he then closed the distance between them and kissed Ianto again. This time softer, more sweetly, trying to confirm everything in that entry with his kiss.

Ianto kept his back turned while Jack read the entry so he wouldn't see his facial expressions. When Jack breathed in sharply, though, Ianto turned to glance at him. Jack looked angry and Ianto really hoped it wasn't because of something he had said to Jack in the entry.

When the coffee was done, Ianto waited for Jack to look up at him before he handed him the cup. Jack took a long drink and Ianto waited with slight apprehensive for him to say something.

"It's all true," Jack said. Ianto almost closed his eyes in relief. When Jack reached out to cup his cheek, Ianto did close his eyes for a moment, soaking in the sensation. When he opened them, he smiled. "Good thing about that, because I love you too," he said softly after he realized he had never spoken those words to Jack before... Well, that he remembered.

Ianto kissed back slowly, savoring it for a moment as he brought his hands up to rest on Jack's upper arms.

Then, once again, he pulled back, wrinkling his nose. "Jack, you know I love you, but really, can we move this to the shower? Because you need one. Badly." Sobering, he asked, "The room's alright though? You don't mind?"

Jack frowned when Ianto pulled back again. "Hey!" he began before Ianto spoke. He then smiled sheepishly and looked down at himself. He'd forgotten he was still covered in sewer stink.

The sheepish smile quickly morphed into a more lascivious one. "A shower sound good," he said, snatching another kiss before looking around the room. Once again his attention was caught by the cap on the cota rack and the clothes in the wardrobe. "The room's fine," he said then laughed. "Though the clothes are interesting. I recognise them but... I haven't worn anything like them since I was travelling with the Doctor."

He laughed again then raised an eyebrow at Ianto. "Bathroom?"

Ianto gave Jack a little push towards the bathroom. "Well you can pick out some clothes to change in to later. For now, shower," Ianto insisted, tugging on Jack's coat. "I'll take care of our coats." Or rather the planet might. Ianto wouldn't be surprised if the coats suddenly just got clean. If that happened, he hoped the smell would be removed too. Ianto's eyes quickly skimmed the other clothes that Jack had. "It'll be interesting to see you in something besides your usual wear. You need to try more styles. I don't always wear suits, you know."

Jack let Ianto take his coat in a move they'd done so many times in the past. He glanced over at the wardrobe, his eyes roving over the clothes he recognised then he laughed. It was an odd sound, slightly bitter, slightly amused. "The black leather pants with a white t-shirt and that black vest," he said decisively. "Let's get some better memories into that outfit."

He took a couple of steps towards the bathroom, working on the buttons on his shirt. He then paused and looked over his shoulder with a grin. "You should join me. After all, I got you all covered in sewer stink. You should let me get you all clean again."

Curious, Ianto glanced at the outfit Jack was referring to. He wondered what bad memory Jack associated with it. It was the first time he'd pointed the outfit out to Ianto.

When Jack invited him in to the shower, Ianto gave him an exasperated look. Focusing, he thought outloud, "I would like to have a hamper, please." A wicker basket about the size he needed materialized in front of him and Ianto carefully set Jack's coat inside of it. "Get undressed and put your clothes in there," he instructed. He did the same to his coat, folding it up and putting it in the basket as well, then simply started stripping down as if he did this every day, placing articles of clothing in the basket as he did so. After a moment, Ianto realized that Jack didn't think that was too... strange. He'd just gotten used to living with Jack from before.

Jack raised an eyebrow at the display of how the planet worked. That was very interesting and he'd have to test it out a bit later. For now though he was distracted by Ianto stripping off his clothes in a very matter of fact manner, as though he just stripped off like that in front of Jack all the time. Though given he'd been here for a while... with a Jack... he probably did.

He sidled up to Ianto and slid one hand down his side. "Now that's something I could get used to," he said with a cheeky grin before stepping away and finishing the job on his shirt. He tossed it into the hamper and quickly followed it with the rest of his clothes. "Now... where's this shower?"

He ambled into the bathroom, completely at ease with his nudity, and started up the shower. he got it to a temperature he liked then stepped in, leaning against the wall so the water was beating down against his shoulders and waiting for Ianto to join him.

Ianto swatted at Jack's hand, fighting back a little blush. As Jack meandered off, Ianto wasn't surprised to see him not being bothered by having no clothes on one bit.

Ianto followed him into the bathroom and picked up the shampoo bottle, handing it to him. "Here. Wash." Ianto stepped in beside him, glad that the shower was more spacious then when he was living in this room alone. Grabbing some body wash, Ianto squirted some into his hands, rubbed them together, and started washing Jack off. He still felt a bit... awkward and unsure about it, since this Jack wasn't as used to them being like this.
