Who: Okita Souji and Sonya Blade
What: Exploring
Where: Stables
When: Day 4
Rating: PG (subject to change)
Status: In progress

He'd slept slightly better that night, although Souji couldn't say whether it was due to the fact that he had felt more fatigued, or the fact that he was marginally more used to the place. He expected, in more honesty, that it was the former. After having a wash, Souji had gotten dressed. He'd been pleased upon realising that the clothes provided were clothes similar to the one's he wore on a day-to-day basis, instead of the strange - and frankly, uncomfortable looking, not to mention movement inhibiting - clothes of the golems and westerners. Along with the fact that his room had ended up resembling his own back in Kyoto, he had been more than a little pleased to see that the medicine that Matsumoto treated him with, was also provided.

As he had not had much chance the day previous, he intended on spending this day exploring at least some of the land. He didn't expect to see anywhere near all of it, but one had to start somewhere. He'd planned on doing some exploring the day of his arrival, but he had found himself feeling tired very quickly (he imagined it was something to do with the sheer shock of waking up somewhere entirely different, and being 'welcomed' by someone who seemed to be made from wood). The weather was once again warm and pleasant, which offset some of the irritance at being here - he couldn't help but wonder how his troop were, what Hijikata and Kondou were thinking of his disappearance. Not only did it inconvenience him, it also inconvenienced the Shinsengumi. It was a small comfort to think that the others knew he wouldn't have abandoned them, that he wouldn't have tried to leave the Shinsengumi. Unfortunately, in either scenario, they would go looking for him and it seemed that it would be impossible to find him.

Nevertheless, it felt strange not walking past anyone he knew. Often, in the morning, he would see either Kondou or Hijikata - or rather, one or the other would check up on him - and he would eat breakfast with his unit. This morning, however, breakfast had been a distinctly quiet affair. He had simply ate a bowl of rice in silence, not bothering to talk to one of the few others eating breakfast at the same time as he had been, and had then promptly left. He was aware that he could, if he wanted, have eaten something different for breakfast, but habit was habit and he didn't have much of an appetite for more.

Upon stepping outside of the building (he still wasn't sure as to what kind of a building it actually was), one glance up at the sky had told him it was likely to rain. Whilst he tended to spend a large portion of his time prior to this convincing those in 'the know' that he was fine, he was perfectly aware that getting soaking wet all for the sake of exploration was a particularly great idea. Looking out in one direction, he could see what appeared to be a stable. With another glance up at the sky, he figured that if it started to rain, he could take shelter there after exploring the land around it. He'd always found the company of animals pleasant; no matter what kind of a person you were, what you might have to do in the name of duty, they were unconditionally loving. Occasionally, Okita thought that people had a lot to learn from them.

"The lake it is then", Sonya replied with a slight smile as she turned toward the direction of the lake. It was a good distance away but she could clearly see the path to it from between the other housing units and so she started forward. Since the sky was mostly gray the lake in the distance was a steel color but Sonya could imagine what a nice scene it would be on a sunnier day.

It was a little odd to walk in silence so Sonya racked her mind for questions she could ask Souji. When it came to the planet the solider came up short as she already asked him a lot and Souji had made it clear he had only been on the planet for a small amount of time. The blond decided that it couldn't hurt to ask Souji some questions about himself since chances were, they were both going to be stuck on the planet for a while. It would be good to get to know her fellow prisoners.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in your time? You said you were a captain?" the blond asked curiously, turning her brown eyes on him as the walked toward the lake. "Like a military captain or...?" Sonya trailed off since there was numerous types of captains.

"Military captain", he confirmed, nodding slightly. Either she wasn't familiar with history to any great extent, or the Shinsengumi weren't remembered. "I mentioned the Shinsengumi, earlier. I'm the captain of the first unit". Souji was momentarily tempted to explain who the Shinsengumi were, but decided against it; they were a military organisation. If Sonya were interested in the details, she'd ask him about them. If not, then he wouldn't waste breath explaining who they were. After all, he had answered her question as to what kind of a captain he was (although, if the planet did affect how one heard language, he realised that English must use the same word for a military captain and a captain of a ship - not that Japan had a great number of those at all).

He couldn't say that the colour of the sky made a trip to a lake seem all that appealing, and it made him think of the weather he'd been forced to leave in Japan. It had been pleasant, and quite warm. Souji remembered thinking the day prior to arriving on this 'planet' that at times, it felt as if summer would stretch on forever. His first two days here had seemed to imply that it was summer here, as well, but now he couldn't help but wonder if it was the end of summer and approaching autumn.

"I also taught", he added after a brief silence. "Shinsengumi members are expected to at least be capable with a sword. I help to train". Recently, he had been teaching less. Dr. Matsumoto, much to his chagrin, had told him to rest for a week or two, and it had seemed there was nothing he had been able to say that would persuade the man to allow him to do otherwise. He had spent much of the time reading, unless he could find company.

"What did you do? You said you were a lieutenant?" He asked, returning the question politely.

“Yes”, the blond solider replied. “With the US Special Forces”, she explained but she assumed that probably meant nothing to Souji so Sonya explained. “It’s a military unit that operates in highly hostile or politically sensitive environments. It’s…ah….a unconventional unit”, the solider continued, deciding she really didn’t need to get into the specifics of what her department did. The less said the better in some situations and while Souji seemed nice enough she had to be careful in revealing too much.

“I’m lucky I’m not involved in the training. I don’t have the patience required”. Sonya chuckled at the thought of having to deal with a new rank of privates. “No, I think I would probably end up turning new recruits off of the army lifestyle”. Especially if any of them have that bullshit belief that the army is a man’s occupation, Sonya thought with a scowl crossing her face. As much as some might have claimed otherwise there was still a number issues that came up with women in the army and Sonya had encountered more than a few blockheads who were convinced women had no place in the military.

Thinking about it usually just pissed her off so Sonya pushed it out of her mind for the time being. The pair came upon the lake shortly after and the blond noticed a boat house and deck further along. “They have boats”, she noted. Already the solider was wondering how long it would take to cross the lake but judging that water it wasn’t a trip she’d want to make that day. Looking across the lake, Sonya could see trees but no mountains. “I wonder what’s beyond there”, she said out loud in a questioning manner.
