Who: Okita Souji and Sonya Blade
What: Exploring
Where: Stables
When: Day 4
Rating: PG (subject to change)
Status: In progress

He'd slept slightly better that night, although Souji couldn't say whether it was due to the fact that he had felt more fatigued, or the fact that he was marginally more used to the place. He expected, in more honesty, that it was the former. After having a wash, Souji had gotten dressed. He'd been pleased upon realising that the clothes provided were clothes similar to the one's he wore on a day-to-day basis, instead of the strange - and frankly, uncomfortable looking, not to mention movement inhibiting - clothes of the golems and westerners. Along with the fact that his room had ended up resembling his own back in Kyoto, he had been more than a little pleased to see that the medicine that Matsumoto treated him with, was also provided.

As he had not had much chance the day previous, he intended on spending this day exploring at least some of the land. He didn't expect to see anywhere near all of it, but one had to start somewhere. He'd planned on doing some exploring the day of his arrival, but he had found himself feeling tired very quickly (he imagined it was something to do with the sheer shock of waking up somewhere entirely different, and being 'welcomed' by someone who seemed to be made from wood). The weather was once again warm and pleasant, which offset some of the irritance at being here - he couldn't help but wonder how his troop were, what Hijikata and Kondou were thinking of his disappearance. Not only did it inconvenience him, it also inconvenienced the Shinsengumi. It was a small comfort to think that the others knew he wouldn't have abandoned them, that he wouldn't have tried to leave the Shinsengumi. Unfortunately, in either scenario, they would go looking for him and it seemed that it would be impossible to find him.

Nevertheless, it felt strange not walking past anyone he knew. Often, in the morning, he would see either Kondou or Hijikata - or rather, one or the other would check up on him - and he would eat breakfast with his unit. This morning, however, breakfast had been a distinctly quiet affair. He had simply ate a bowl of rice in silence, not bothering to talk to one of the few others eating breakfast at the same time as he had been, and had then promptly left. He was aware that he could, if he wanted, have eaten something different for breakfast, but habit was habit and he didn't have much of an appetite for more.

Upon stepping outside of the building (he still wasn't sure as to what kind of a building it actually was), one glance up at the sky had told him it was likely to rain. Whilst he tended to spend a large portion of his time prior to this convincing those in 'the know' that he was fine, he was perfectly aware that getting soaking wet all for the sake of exploration was a particularly great idea. Looking out in one direction, he could see what appeared to be a stable. With another glance up at the sky, he figured that if it started to rain, he could take shelter there after exploring the land around it. He'd always found the company of animals pleasant; no matter what kind of a person you were, what you might have to do in the name of duty, they were unconditionally loving. Occasionally, Okita thought that people had a lot to learn from them.

It had been a beautiful morning in Tampa, Florida when Sonya Blade was snatched from earth and brought to Mirage. It wasn't the sort of morning you'd expect to be kidnapped on but that's exactly what happened to Sonya during her jog at 6am. One moment the slender young woman was jogging along, minding her own business when she tripped. That in itself was unusual for Sonya since she ran often and wasn't the clumsy type but she braced for the fall only to see the sidewalk disappear.

In its place was green grass that softened Sonya's fall as she landed on her hands and knees. Within in mere seconds the blond was back on her feet in a simple stance with her arms loose at her side and her body balanced. Ready and alert to her surroundings, Sonya's deep brown eyes scanned the near by stables, the rural landscape, the buildings just off a little ways and the lone figure coming toward her. As both a solider and fighter Lt. Blade's natural instincts were to assess the possible dangerous in her surroundings. Aside from the man walking toward the stable, there didn't seem to be any so she relaxed slightly.

Am I in the Outworld? she silently wondered. Sonya had been transported there once before but the Outworld was a ruined realm, corrupted by Shao Kahn and this....this was nice. Beautiful even. But it's clearly another realm, the solider decided. What else could explain her sudden transportation?

Rayden's gotta be behind this....or at least I hope he is. Sonya had been kidnapped once before and that was enough to suit her for a lifetime. The only way to find out what was going on was to investigate so Sonya headed toward the man near the stables. Silently she wished whoever had brought her here would have waited until she was in her regular clothes rather than her jogging shorts, white tank and sneakers. Although I'm probably lucky they didn't haul me while I was in the shower, she decided as an after thought.

As Sonya came closer to the young man she realized he was wearing traditional Japanese grab and once more Sonya found herself wondering where she was. Was she still on earth? Had someone transported her to Japan? Sonya had been to the country before but this place didn't remind the woman of Japan. It looked like a western ranch. Japanese seemed like a safe beat language wise even though Sonya was a little rusty. "Ohayo gozaimasu. Anata wa eigo o hanashimasu ka?" Basically she said hello and asked him if he spoke English. Sonya silently hoped the answer was yes.

He'd taken a quick look at the horses, but not being a person of great knowledge when it came to animals, he'd been more or less left to differentiate between them based on height and colour. They seemed friendly enough, however. Despite the fact that he had been unnerved by the golems that appeared to constitute the workforce at this place, it seemed that they took good care of their animals, which meant something, at least. Admittedly, though, beyond the fact that he had been brought here against his will, and had been forced to participate in a cooking session, the golem didn't appear to act in any particularly detrimental manner, and whilst he had difficulty in believing that a planet was behind their actions, given their mute status, he did believe there was a higher being given them orders. As such, he couldn't entirely hold it against them. He was tempted to say that it appeared they had little will of their own beyond serving, if actions up to this point were anything to go by.

He'd paused for several minutes by the entrance to the stables, mentally debating whether he thought the weather would hold off long enough for him to do a decent amount of exploring and return. Or at least, that was what he'd been doing until he'd noticed someone walking towards him. As the person got closed, he realised they were female, and not of Asian origin. By this point, Souji was beginning to think that he really shouldn't be surprised by that fact. He thought he'd seen what was possibly a Japanese boy working in the kitchens, but he hadn't stopped long enough to ask him, and his attire hadn't been in the least bit fitting (although, when he considered it, none of the westerners were wearing attire he'd been under the impression that westerners wore - and this woman, she was wearing trousers. Didn't- He'd thought only western men wore trousers?)

He offered her a pleasant smile and bowed at her as she approached before straightening. When she spoke, however, he shot her a slightly puzzled expression - why was she, he wondered, concerned about his English when it appeared she spoke near perfect Japanese? "No, I speak only Japanese", he answered slowly, watching her for a moment. Now that he thought about - and really, he should have noticed sooner - 'I was overwhelmed' wasn't an excuse - everyone he'd come across thus far spoke Japanese. He wondered if this place - affected a person's linguistic skills. He still thought that a vast majority of it was probably as a result of some kind of higher being's influence.

After a pause, he spoke again, a thought occurring to him. "Are you lost?" It would explain the question, particularly as he was certain he hadn't come across her before.

Sonya blinked and was surprised after the young man replied to her request in perfect English. Not because he spoke perfect English but because he claimed to only speak Japanese. "Uh huh", the blond replied, raising any eyebrow. He seemed to be sincere so Sonya didn't question it and besides, she had bigger things to worry about right now then whether or not this man was lying. Things like falling into another realm for insistence. Usually in the past Sonya would see a portal open before actually entering it but this time there was no hint of anything. It was simply like she had been in one place and blinked to find herself in another. A very odd sensation really. Why was I brought here? she silently mused as the man asked if she was lost.

"Yes, I am very lost. I was home one moment and the next thing I know I'm here", she admitted. Maybe Sonya was revealing too much to a stranger but decided there wasn't anything to gain or protect with lying to him. "I'm Lt. Sonya Blade", she said. "I don't suppose you'd care to tell me your name? And maybe you might know how I got here?" The blond woman added hopefully. "I partly expect one of my friends is behind this". Sonya wondered if she should mention Rayden to this man. He could know about the God or he could think Sonya was completely insane, she debated.

Half...no, most of my superiors think I'm nuts, what's one more stranger added to that? her mind replied to Sonya's internal questions. That made up her mind. What did Sonya have to lose by asking questions? "You don't know if there is anyone around hear name Rayden, do you? Or Liu Kang?" God help her if Johnny Cage was here."Rayden's a taller man, usually wears conical straw hat...his eyes glow white", Sonya added quickly. "Liu Kang's a Shaolin monk, long black hair, fairly young". She had a funny feeling this wasn't ringing any bells with this young man.

Sonya sighed, "I don't know what's going on here".

He had wondered whether she had simply been exploring and got lost that way - he'd have presumed that a golem would have met her as one had met him. However, apparently that was not the case. He wasn't certain that he wanted to be the one to tell her that she'd been brought here by a planet and that there was reputedly no way to leave. As she began talking about various people - the names went straight over his head, and the descriptions meant nothing to him - he shook his head. When she commented that she had 'no idea what was going on', he couldn't help but smile. He smiled not because it was amusing, but because he knew exactly what she must be feeling and that it was fast becoming a common occurrence.

As she introduced herself with her rank, he wondered whether (it was unlikely, he knew) she knew Captain Harkness he had met the day previous. She wasn't dressed in similar attire, so he presumed not. "Captain Souji Okita", he responded, moving to sit down on the ground, looking up at her. "For how you got here", he flashed her a bitter smile. "I don't know. When I arrived - two days ago - I just woke up here". A brief flash of irritation crossed his face before he continued speaking. "I was met-" He paused, thinking of how to phrase it. "I'm not sure what they are. I thought that maybe there's a chance that they're demon, but... They don't seem to be violent... I was met by a man made from wood. He took me to a plaque near the building that way". He explained, before turning and pointing towards the ranch. "That told me a number of rules relating to this place, and that I - we, since there are others here - were brought here by a planet". He looked uncomfortable for a moment before looking back up at her. "I don't think your friends are behind this. You can see the plaque if you wanted. The most important information contained on it is that you're not to kill another person here, or you will be punished, and that there's apparently no way to leave".

He fell silent; if she wanted to go see the plaque, he would show her the way. If she had other questions, he would attempt to answer them. As it was, he wasn't fond of rambling on about something if the person he was talking to was not interested in what he was saying, or if it wouldn't help them. He didn't know what information this woman wanted.

As Captain Okita took a seat and introduced himself, Sonya followed suit by sitting down as well. She had been right when she knew he Okita hadn't known her friends but he at least attempted to answer her other questions. Too bad he didn't know how they had gotten here either. Sonya listened carefully as he described his own arrival on the planet. Any detail could be important so she didn't want to miss a thing. Any detail could hold the key to this place.

Her eyebrows went up a little as he described the golems, saying that he thought they were demons. She had encountered demons before thanks to Shang Tsung and an extended trip into the outworld but no one she had encountered matched the descriptions Captain Okita offered. Still, Sonya had encountered men who turn invisible, shoot ice and change shape in the past few years. Encountering one made of wood wouldn't be that big of a stretch.

The mention of rules made Sonya sit a little straighter and pay more attention. This was clearly important but she frowned as Okita told her about them. Can't leave...can't kill?, she silently went over them in her mind. It wasn't as if Sonya specifically sought out to kill people but she had done it before in self-defense and she was use to a life filled with fighting and battles.

"What if someone attacks me?" she posed the question out loud. "They can't kill me either, right?" The blond wanted to make sure that was the case but this had her wondering once again about her purpose being her. Normally whenever Sonya was brought to another realm there was someone she had to fight, a evil that had to be defeated. This didn't seem to be the case here so why was Sonya brought here?

Seeing the plaque did interest Sonya, if only to confirm what Okita was saying was true but Sonya couldn't help but feel the urge to look around this place first. It was hard to believe that they were simply trapped here and she was certain there had to be more to this place than just a ranch. "I'll check it out later", Sonya replied, silently adding If I'm still here, before she rose to her feet once more. "For now, I'd like to see more of this place", she added as she glanced around at the stables and wilderness in the distance.

"Do you know this place very well?" the blond asked Okita, giving him a steady look. "Is there anything I should watch out for?"

Watching her, and listening to her response, Souji had to admit that he was impressed. She was taking it well, and apparently within her stride. It seemed that this - perhaps not this exactly, but something similar occurred with some kind of frequency (particularly as she automatically presumed a 'friend' was behind it). He couldn't help but wonder just where she was from, and what she was. It wasn't normal, after all, to find oneself on a completely different planet. Regardless of his own questions, he attempted to answer hers. He liked to think that he was a little more helpful than a mute golem, but he expected she would come across one at a later point. After all, she was to be given the key to her room, and he had no idea where the keys were kept, nor which room she was to have.

"I think that if someone attacks you, you can fight back as long as neither of you attempt to kill the other. I haven't met anyone so far that acts as if they'd want to kill another person, so we might be alright on that", he replied. Whilst that was the case, he still couldn't shake the habit of carrying his daishou with him - nor did he feel an incredible urge to trust people he'd met a day, or two days previous. If they could be trusted, that would be seen in time.

At her second question, he shook his head. "No. I arrived two days ago", he repeated. "The first day, I was shown to my room. I was tired, so I slept. The second day I awoke to find that I had been forcibly enrolled in a compulsory cooking class which took up most of the day". A wry smile graced his lips before he continued. "I wouldn't have gone but apparently there were precautions in place to ensure our attendance and getting in an unnecessary fight doesn't appeal". Not to mention the fact that private fights break the Shinsengumi regulations, which, even if he weren't in Japan, he intended on upholding to the best of his ability. "I did meet three other people who are here, though", he explained.

"I was going to spend today exploring but-" Souji moved slightly, peering up at the sky. "I'm not sure how much I'll explore going on the weather. It wouldn't be a good idea to become ill though lack of care". Or, in his case, more ill. He returned his gaze to the blonde. "I don't think there's anything specific you need to look out for". He didn't bother saying that he found a number of the people strange, as he placed the majority of that on the fact that they were foreign, the same way that he wasn't bothering to ask too many questions about the items and technology here; it was the least of his concerns. What was here was here, and he didn't want to remain here any longer than was absolutely necessary.

"They forced you to attend a cooking class?" The solider said in a disbelieving tone. Okay, what kind of realm had Sonya been pulled into? It was an odd realm if it had cooking class, dude ranches, and demons for people to contend with. All Sonya could think was if anyone tried to force her into a cooking class then she'd rather a fight instead. The blond woman was not known for her culinary skills.

When Okita mentioned the possibility of rain, Sonya also looked up and gave the overcast sky an appraising look. "Well, I don't think a little rain will kill us", she said offhand, not knowing that Okita was sick. While he assured her that there was nothing serious to look out, Sonya wasn't about to relax. Okita might seem nice but it didn't mean he was necessarily telling the truth.

Or he could just not know of any exact threats, her inner voice lectured. You don't need to assume the worst about everyone Sonya. The woman felt a pang of conscious that conflicted with her natural wariness. As a solider and a special forces agent, Sonya had learned to be observant and not take the world at face value. Just because someone seemed nice didn't mean they could be trusted and as Sonya often said in the past, the only person she trusted was herself.

Rayden said that was Sonya's greatest weakness. As he had told the young woman 'to be suspicious of everyone was to deny yourself compassion, both for yourself and others'. Wise words but Sonya was still having trouble over coming this weakness. "But if you're worried about a storm, perhaps exploring the buildings or the area near by might be better", Sonya suggested. "Although I have to admit part of me just wants to walk away from here and see how far I can get", she added, looking into the forest off in the distance.

Yet the solider wasn't prepared for such a trek since all she was wearing was a pair shorts, a tank top and running shoes. It could take days to get through the forest, weeks maybe for she found another location and even if she did, then what? Find a portal home? Unlikely. Besides if she arrived here then there must be a portal in this area, the warrior just had to find it. "I won't be doing that though", she said out loud to Okita. Not today, she silently added.

Glancing back at the barn-like buildings just a small distance from the stables, Sonya had to admit they looked somewhat modern. Sure they were barns but they weren't completely rustic. They kind of reminded her of when she had visited Montana as a child. "Are there phones or radio's here?" Sonya inquired, returning her eyes to the young man. "Has anyone tried to make contact to someone outside of this place?"

"Mm", Souji confirmed, a brief smile appearing on his features. "I don't know what it was I cooked, though. I wasn't familiar with it". He didn't feel that it was necessary to mention any more details of the activity; he had had to attend, so he did. He had did as he was instructed and that was all there was to it. He wasn't going to cause trouble that didn't need to be caused, just because he didn't want to do something. Making a fuss could only worsen things at this point in time. One did not attempt to anger their captors, after all - not, however, that he thought it wise to be captured at all, nor that he had ever held anyone captive. To be captured was a disgrace, and if this place were not so strange, and if he'd had a harder time believing he were not in Japan - or even on the same planet, he'd have had no second thoughts about committing seppuku.

As she commented about the rain, he laughed lightly. "No, probably not. Rain itself never killed anyone as far as I knew, but I'd still rather not be caught in it if I have a choice. Walking around in wet clothing isn't comfortable", he added, glancing across at her. Her phrasing made it sound as if she intended on exploring with him. He didn't particularly mind either way. It would probably be better to get to know those he was kept here with. He was glad that she didn't seem particularly annoying and incapable of looking after herself; that would have made things difficult. Although, if that had been the case, he would have insisted that he show her to the main building so she'd have been able to get settled, and he'd have explored another time.

"I think just walking in one direction would be better when it's known which direction would be better to walk in", he commented, his gaze looking out towards the horizon. "It would be unfortunate if there was an escape, only to find that you won't make it simply because you chose the wrong way to walk", he added. Whilst he wasn't afraid of walking into the unknown, he preferred to avoid it, and would much rather have some idea of what he was heading into. "Having some idea of the lay of the land and what is out therewould be advantageous", he added, finally, returning his gaze to her. "I don't like leaving things unplanned and walking into a trap that could have been avoided", he clarified, with a quick smile.

"Which is why I was here. Well, and the fact that I was curious about the horses. They seem to be treated well, quite tame and friendly. If you were to go out in one direction to see how far you could get, you'd get further faster on one of them", he told her, briefly glancing back in towards the horses.

He had to admit, he was getting a little tired of repeating himself, but the woman had just arrived. Questions were to be expected. "I expect someone has tried if they are able to. I wouldn't know. I-" He glanced up at her, a brief frown appearing on his features. "I don't know what a 'phone' or 'radio' is", he admitted. "Maybe we don't have them in Japan", he suggested returning his gaze to their surroundings. The words weren't remotely familiar to him, and he wondered if they called them something different in Japan, if they had them. It was possible, he guessed. "This place might have them, though. It has a lot of things I've never seen before".

Okita had made a number of good points about discovering the lay of the land before rushing off in one direction. As he made these suggests, Sonya couldn't help but smile ruefully. Jax often said her impulsiveness would be the death of her.

The idea of using the horses made perfect sense but Sonya wondered how far they would get on the animals before someone tried to stop. Would these golems creatures attempt to stop them? She mused over that idea before Okita's answer to her question about phones threw her for a loop. "You've never heard of a phone?" she asked in a surprised manner.

"Wait a minute, what part of Japan are you from?" The solider asked in a puzzled tone as she met Okita's eyes. "Because I've been to Japan and the last I checked, they had phones". A thought crossed Sonya's mind as she regarded Okita, taking note once more of his traditional clothes. No, it can't be. You're really flying off the deep end Blade if you think-- But Sonya did think it and she had to ask. "What year was it in Japan before you came here Captain Okita?"

Perhaps Sonya was being too forward in her questioning however. "I'm not trying to be upset you", she continued gently. "But I'm guessing you are from a different time in history then I am. You see, the last I remember the year was 1993." It was a rather alarming thought to Sonya that they could be from different time periods but then her mind was still getting adjusted to being on the planet itself.

The blond forced her mind to calm and to deal with the information logically. "I have to admit it's a little disconcerting to meet someone from the past but given the circumstances, it's obviously not the most impossible thing that could happen." As she regarded the Captain, Sonya felt a small stab of pity for him. It was bad enough to be taken from your home and thrown into a new world but to be taken from a different time entirely? The required a rather large adjustment. Still, judging from Okita's manner throughout their meeting, he was clearly a level-headed young man and he didn't seem shaken by his being here.

If he is shaken then he is very disciplined, Sonya thought, and hides it very well.

Souji stared at her rather blankly for a few moments. "1993?" He repeated, standing up. He understood the numbers, that it was over a hundred years in his future, but for that exact reason he was having trouble comprehending. Stepping outside and realising the weather still hadn't taken a turn for the worst, he studied the horizon. Unsurprisingly, his view hadn't changed much from when he'd been sat down. So, she would know the outcome of the battle between the Shinsengumi and the Choushuu, then. If he were quite honest, as he thought about it, and attempted to understand what she had just said, he felt slightly sick; not only had a planet supposedly brought him here, it had somehow taken him to a different time... Perhaps. He briefly wondered whether he had died, and if this were simply the afterlife. It would make more sense, at least.

"You don't need to call me 'captain'", he told her, speaking eventually, his voice slightly quieter. "And it was 1865". And summer was approaching; he hadn't been able to decide whether he'd been looking forward to the summer, but it didn't really matter here. It had appeared his free time here - of which he had far more - would be spent in a vastly different manner to back home. "I was living in Kyoto", but, he added mentally, if she is correct about this being a different time, then it didn't really matter where he was from.

Turning back round to face here, he studied her for a moment, before meeting her gaze. "I don't want to know what it - Japan - is like. I don't want to know what happened between the Shinsengumi and the Choushuu, the Shogunate and Emperor", he told her. He wondered if it were cowardice on his part - that he didn't want to know who won and who lost, who had lived and who hadn't. But then, if he did get out of this place - something he was counting on - he didn't want such knowledge to interfere with any action the Shinsengumi might take. After all, his own death was inevitable.

A brief, slightly ironic smile briefly graced his lips. "I thought maybe it was because this place is supposedly a different planet it had things I didn't know as a part of daily life". The thought that this might simply be a future Earth entered his head, but he dismissed it. None of the others seemed all that familiar with the place, either.

Sonya fought to stop herself from letting out a low whistle when Okita revealed what time he had arrived from. She succeeded and kept herself composed. When he said that he didn't want to know what changes had occurred between his time and hers, Sonya had no troubled complying. "Understandable and don't worry, I have no idea of what happened between the Shinsengumi, the Choushuu, or whoever else you knew during that time", the lieutenant assured him. "History was never exactly my strong point."

His assumptions that the modern technologies where simply a part of daily life here on the planet was an interesting one for Sonya. What if there were other technologies here that she was unfamiliar with? Then a horrible thought crossed Sonya's mind. What if she met other people who where from a more distant time than her? Would they know anything about the impending invasion of the Outworld forces or would that have already happened? And what state would their world be in?

The solider rubbed her head, feeling the beginnings of a headache. This had all happened so fast and now her mind throwing out worst case scenario's at her.

"Maybe I should check out those buildings", she said, half to herself and half to Okita. Like he had suggested earlier, it would a smarter move to find out everything she could about this place before trying to escape. The best way to do that could be to check out those buildings but that wasn't the only thing driving Sonya's thoughts.

She wanted, no, needed to meet the others in order to find out if any of them what had happened to her own world. Unlike Okita, she wanted to know in case there was anything she could do to save her world because Sonya didn't delude herself when it came to Earth realm's chances against the Outworld. After all, Shao Khan had conquered a number of realms before his attempt at Earth and half of the Earth Realm residents didn't even know of the danger they were in.

No, you're getting a head of yourself Sonya, she silently lectured. Focus, gather as much information as you can now before seeking out the others.Okita had given Sonya a lot of information about the planet so far and he had shown himself a man who was not out looking for an enemy. He could even be considered trustworthy if Sonya wasn't so naturally suspicious.

She decided that while she could, she might as well keep the questions coming. "What do you know about the other people here? Are there others from 1865 here as well?"

Souji nodded, appreciative of the fact that she wasn't inclined to tell him anything. Destiny had its own path, after all, and it wasn't his place to try and influence it in any way other than the one he was meant to. Her comment about history not being her strong point did bring a smile to his face, however.

He coughed briefly into his hand before continuing to speak. He wasn't an overly talkative person by nature, particularly not to what more-or-less amounted to strangers. Regardless, he imagined he would have asked a lot more if he had met someone a little more talkative than the wooden golem when he first arrived. Not that it had stopped him from attempting to get answers. "There aren't any others from 1865 that I know of. It would probably be better to say that there isn't anyone I know here". For the way that Hijikata would enquire as to how he was feeling quite regularly, and although it was a bother, Souji had a feeling he would miss it - along with the rest of the routine he had otherwise settled into. He hoped there would be an area suitable for keeping up his training. It would be nice if there was someone to spar with, but he wasn't going to keep his hopes up.

"Yesterday, I was in a group with a man who said his name is Captain Jack Harkness - he didn't mention what time he is from, but he appeared to be familiar with the food and equipment, so probably not..." Souji paused for a moment. "Well, probably not from my time. There was another man, Lestat de Lioncourt. He seemed vocal and flamboyant. There was a woman, Xena, I think. She seemed quiet and--" Souji cast a quick look at Sonya, as if thinking how to phrase something. He'd been about to say that she had appeared to be easily swayed by her emotions, like most women, and whilst he wouldn't have meant it offensively, he wasn't sure how western women - or women for the future - would consider such a comment. "She was noticeably unimpressed with the task, so it's possible she's short-tempered, and maybe isn't that great at masking her emotions", he finished simply with a small shrug of his shoulders. He didn't bother adding his personal opinions of how each had come across otherwise, figuring if the woman was interested, she would ask. If she wasn't, that was perfectly fair enough. It wasn't always wise to have someone else's viewpoint clouding your own. "Depending on what time you eat, there will probably be others eating in the restaurant", he added.

"Oh! Money isn't needed here. That was another thing on the plaque", he said suddenly as the thought occurred to him, smiling wryly. "'The Planet will provide you with everything that you need'. Excepting a way to leave, and apparently choosing who else arrives".

His thoughts returning to her comment about exploring the buildings, he nodded slightly. "If you wanted to talk more, perhaps we could both explore the buildings?" He suggested. If they were both going to do it anyway, he saw little reason as to why they should do it alone. Besides, it would give him more chance to learn about her; where she came from and how likely it was that she could be trusted. He was also somewhat interested to find out whether it was common practice for women to hold military rank where she was from. He found the idea of women in a military position extremely strange, and he wasn't sure how it would work; there were already enough problems with them consisting of only males.

"And besides, if you don't mind, you would be able to point out what is alien to this planet. The rest I'll take to be from the future".

Jack, Xena and Lestat. The names meant nothing to Sonya, not right now but she put them in the back of her mind, just in case. Okita offered his observations on the three and Sonya’s lip quirked as he mentioned Xena’s possible short-temper. It was a description Sonya was use to getting from others about herself. “I imagine she just didn’t like being forced to cook”, Sonya replied with a slight smile.

Okita also revealed that there was a restaurant on the planet that didn’t require money. Another useful piece of information for at some point the solider was bound to get hungry.

When he suggested going to the buildings to explore, Sonya nodded in agreement. “That’s a good idea. So far this seems like a safe place but who knows?” she added with a shrug. “There’s safety in numbers after all. And yes, I can point out what’s alien to me if you like”. With that, Sonya turned toward the buildings and keeping step with Okita, started walking. “So we’re really stuck here?” Sonya said softly as she walked. “I’m still having trouble dealing with that”.

That wasn’t the only part of this situation that bothered Sonya and she decided to voice a nagging thought from the back of her mind. “What I can’t understand is why we were brought here. Why us? Why this place? And why now?” The blond frowned. “I mean, there should be a reason for this. The last time something like this happened to me at least I knew why it happened”.

"Perhaps", he responded, the corners of his lips twitching as he she commented about Xena's possible dislike of cooking. "I'm not sure I'd want my dislikes to be known as easily, though". As of yet, he had not found himself feeling at complete ease around anyone here, and he didn't like the thought that he would be read that easily. One didn't know when it could be used against them. He did find it interesting how those selected for the cooking class were either poor at it, disliked it, or both. He wasn't comfortable with the idea that the Planet - or the people who brought him here - knew that much about him. It would have been stupid to presume that they didn't, though; after all, they had brought him here, which led to the idea that he - and the other's here - had been selected.

"Nothing's made an attempts to harm anyone so far, from what I know. The place seems built and designed for entertainment or being homely, I think. It doesn't seem to have been built with the intention of harming people. It's possible it's to lull the inhabitants into a false sense of security, but..." Souji shrugged. He wasn't sure. It seemed to be an awful lot of effort to bring people here from such different places with the sole intention of harming them. He wasn't going to bother with considering why it would do that - as far as he could tell, there was no reason for it. "I don't know why or how", he told her. "There are at least three people here with military backgrounds, but I've seen a few other people, all of various ages, and I doubt whether they are all military. So, I doubt it is for that reason". Souji fell silent for a few minutes, unsure of what to say or what else he particularly thought on the matter. It was complicated, and he was having trouble understanding why anyone would do such a thing. He didn't believe in kidnapping, or holding people to ransom. He still wasn't sure whether he should be ashamed of himself for remaining alive when it was evident that someone - though whatever means - had, for lack of a better word, captured him. He'd have broached the subject with someone else, but there wasn't anyone here that he trusted to that extent, nor did he expect them to understand his viewpoint. Perhaps if there were other Japanese here... But then, that still left the issue of personal boundaries. He did, however, understand why after Yamanami had attempted to leave the Shinsengumi, why he was willing to return and die.

"We're stuck here for as long as it takes to find a way to leave", he commented eventually. In honesty, he was trying not to focus on that particular aspect too much (although it was, admittedly, hard to do). He wasn't sure whether it was harder for him to comprehend the fact that he was (supposedly) on a different planet - not to mention a different time - or the fact that he was stuck here. None of it, as far as he was concerned, was particularly easy to deal with. "When you say 'the last time', what do you mean?" He asked, looking across at her as they walked.

Sonya raised an eyebrow. There were three other people here with military experience? Interesting. She'd have to make a point of seeking them out. Normally Sonya wasn't the sort to seek out help but she didn't know what to make of this place.

As the odd pair approached buildings, Okita had his own questions to ask which made Sonya realize she might have said too much. Oh well, too late now, she thought and besides, it wasn't as if she had let some military secrets. The military wasn't even acknowledging what Sonya had told them.

"I hate to say it Okita but this isn't the first time I've been bought to a strange world by outside forces", she answered, sighing slightly. Sonya couldn't believe she was admitting this to a relative stranger but seeing as they were in the same boat right now, she trudged on.

"About two years ago I boarded a boat in Hong Kong China to apprehend a criminal. Of course, when I got on the boat I found that the owner, a man named Shang Tsung wouldn't let me off. He had all these fighters on board who were going to fight in a tournament and the only way I was getting out alive he told me was to fight along with them". In her mind's eye, Sonya could see the memory of arriving on Shang Tsung's island. "I made it to the top three along with friends I made in the tournament but I didn't get away so easily".

As they came closer to the buildings, Sonya wondered how she would explain what happened to her after the tournament. "I don't know if you've heard of the idea about there being different realms outside of earth", Sonya started awkwardly, feeling somewhat embarrassed. Yes, these things had happened to her but they sounded crazy, even to Sonya.

"But apparently there are bunch of them. There's one for the gods, one for the dead, Earth realm, and one called Outworld. After the tournament I was dragged there by Shang Tsung and held captive". A bitter smile crossed Sonya's face. "Talk about fun times", she said sarcastically.

"Anyway, I eventually got free and made it back to our realm".

Souji listened to her answer in silence, nodding on occasion to show that he was listening. Prior to waking up on the planet, he would have found what Sonya had just told him laughable, and suggested that perhaps she was a bit too fond of sake. As it was, however, it would have been foolish for him to deny the possibility of what she was saying was the truth - after all, when 'people' like Lestat de Lioncourt were walking around (Souji didn't intend on being near him if it was possible), he was being forced to face the idea that not everything was remotely as it seemed. That said, Souji could quite readily believe in the existence of different realms, although he wasn't sure what the 'Outworld' was. As she stated she was held captive there, he glanced across at her, studying her for a moment. He found that that bothered him more than the rest of her answer.

It wasn't the first time he'd heard of the way in which westerner's acted when captured, but he still couldn't help the feeling of surprise with the free and unashamed manner in which she told him she had been held captive. Even though it was something he had heard of, he had a hard time understanding the mentality behind it. Even though it had hurt when Yamanami had rejected his offer of allowing him to escape free, Souji knew that he would have chosen the same option. The other wasn't one that could be considered and accepted without feeling disgraced. He ran his tongue along his lips, smiling fleetingly. "It's strange hearing someone talk about being captured and then escaping like that", he admitted, looking away from her.

"I don't think anyone like that has had a hand in this. There has been no mention of fighting, and I don't think that some of the people here would be suited to it". He didn't mind that particularly; unnecessary fighting wasn't something he was fond of, even if it wasn't a private fight. After a few moments, he spoke again. "I don't know what I think of this. We've been taken against our will and we're being held captive supposedly no way to leave, and we have not met the ...Being that is holding us captive. I find it hard to believe it's a planet", he added. There had to be someone - people - behind it, surely? "I think... I'll decide my opinion when I know more about the situation", he commented, more to himself than to Sonya.

He looked towards the approaching buildings. "Are buildings often made like this?" He asked her, genuinely curious. "They don't seem like they're constructed for easy rebuilding if there's a problem", he elaborated, referring to the possibility of earthquakes, tsunami's or fire's.

Sonya shrugged. "Yeah, it's strange alright", she agreed, "But that's what happened". The blond was a little relieved by Souji's reaction. It was a bit of uncomfortable perhaps and doubt but nothing outright disbelieving or mocking like it had been when Sonya told her superiors the same story.

After that little fiasco Sonya was promptly informed that she needed to undergo psychiatric analysis and take some time off work. It still burned her up a little to think about it but Sonya pushed her anger aside for the time being. There were more important things to focuse on.

"No, I don't think Shang Tsung is behind this either", Sonya agreed. "It's a little too nice here for the likes of him". No, Sonya couldn't picture the demon sorcerer being in a place Mirage and nor did she want to. That lecher was the last person the blond woman wanted to encounter. "But I agree, I think it's a person behind this. A planet is a form of rock, water, and molten lava. It's not a living being".

Or so Sonya was determined to believe.

Looking at the buildings, Sonya nodded. "For the most part although there's different ways to do the exterior. This once looks like a ranch house you'd see in Montana, a part of my country. They're not really constructed with the idea of rebuilding in mind, more so with the idea of withstanding the elements and whatever mother nature throws at them".

Her mind went to the idea of earthquakes and tornado's as well. "Judging by the terrain, I doubt we'll have to worry much about hurricanes or tornado's though. Earthquakes on the other hand..." She shrugged. "If it's anything like the Montana I know then yes, it could have earthquakes."

Sonya took notice of the way the buildings were laid out and that the one in the center seemed to be the largest. "What's in these smaller buildings?" she asked Souji, gesturing at the units. Her brown eyes fell on the larger one again, "And what's in this one?"

Souji made no further comment on her explanation, figuring that that particular avenue of conversation had been dealt with; he had the answer to his question, and whilst it was odd, he was discovering that there was a lot that could be described as 'strange' to him - that was, of course, not including the 'waking up on a mysterious planet'. It did seem, though, that she had misconstrued the reason behind his comment with regards to escaping captivity, but he didn't feel the need to correct her. Besides; it was true, her entire story was strange.

He shot her a slight look as she stated that a planet wasn't a living being. "Some would say that everything contains life. From rocks to grass, sand to water", he commented. "But if you mean life like a human or an animal, then no. I don't think that a planet can be like that", he finished, his attention returning to the buildings as they approached them and Sonya answered his question about their structure. He still wasn't entirely sure what purpose a 'ranch' house had - surely you had houses, and that was more or less it? Building them to withstand the weather sounded quite a good idea, but he wasn't sure how well it would work in practice - at least in Japan. He supposed though, that if it were the style of building in the future, Japan must have found someway to overcome the numerous issues that threatened their buildings currently.

"I don't know what's in all of the smaller buildings, but since they look the same, I'd guess that most of them are living quarters. The larger structure is the main building. I haven't had a full look round, but it has the restaurant, and a number of other rooms. I think I saw a library. I imagine it has a number of rooms with the aim of keeping us occupied. I don't know what's in the grounds of the place, beyond the stables", he told her. "Like I said earlier, I haven't had much of a look around. Most of it is as unknown to me as it is to you. Cooking is surprisingly tiring", he finished with an amused smile.

The blond woman frowned as Souji described the inside of the building. A restaurant? A library? “This sounds like a resort”, she replied, still feeling confused. This was even weirder. Who would bring a bunch of people to a resort? Was there some being in the universe who thought these people were long overdue for a vacation? Sonya nearly laughed out loud at the idea but managed to contain herself. “Yes, cooking is tiring”, she agreed, remembering her own past attempts at it. Sonya could cook simply things but anything that went beyond two or three ingredients and she usually got frustrated and made a mess. “That’s probably why I don’t cook very much”, she added.

A few light drops had begun to fall, causing Sonya to glance up at the overcast sky. It wasn’t rain, just merely a few drops but it looked like it could pour any moment. Sonya frowned, she was curious about the grounds surrounding the buildings but getting drenched was never fun. “What do you think?” she asked Souji. “Is it going to rain?” The blond thought about the description Souji had given her of the building. “If there’s a library, would it be possible that it had information about this planet? Maps even?” The solider mused out loud.

((OOC: That's cool. Do you want to stay outside or head into the building? I'm cool with either :D))

"I've never cooked often", he admitted. "Most of my attempts to cook involve rice, with maybe something else. I suppose it's a good thing I like rice. And that we our meals were cooked for us by people who had some idea of a slightly varied diet", he added with a slight laugh. In the earlier years of the Shinsengumi, that hadn't entirely been the case; they hadn't been, and he suppose, still weren't, a particularly rich organisation, and they made do with what they were able to get. That said, their fortunes had improved once they were instated officially and it was far less noticeable.

"Probably?" Souji half-suggested, half-answered when she asked him if it was going to rain. It wasn't definite, but as it was spitting slightly, he'd have leant towards 'yes'. One could never tell, though. There were times he'd been convinced it was about to start raining heavily and nothing had come of it. It wasn't very often, since it tended to be that if it looked like it was going to rain, chances were, it was going to rain. But this place was completely unknown, and it was impossible to say what the weather would be like. Perhaps the resulting rain or not-rain would give them an insight into the kind of climate and predictability of weather patterns they were likely to expect.

It was irritating; he hadn't done anywhere near as much exploration as he'd intended, although he certainly wasn't the type of person who'd have left someone who'd just arrived to somewhere as baffling as this by themselves, simply because it didn't match up with his own plans. Fluidity and the ability to work around sudden occurrences was a plus. "If you want to continue exploring outside until we can say for definite, that doesn't matter, but if that is the case, I'd rather stay fairly near to shelter in case it does decide to rain. As for the library, I doubt it will have anything useful in that manner; whoever's brought us here wants to keep us here. It's unlikely they'll have anything that can be used in any way for an escape". He paused and glanced across at her. "Or, if I were the type to keep people captive", the tone of his voice conveyed his distaste for the thought. "That is what I would do. It might be worth a look, though", he conceded, looking back towards the buildings.

“Let’s stick to outdoors then”, Sonya replied. “Like I said earlier, a little rain never hurt and besides, there’s time to explore the inside later on”. After a moment’s thought, she added, “Especially at night if we’re still here….which, at this rate, we probably will be”.

It was more than a little frustrating for Sonya to come to terms with the fact that once again she was being kept in another place against her will. But since being angry wouldn’t solve the problem, Sonya focused on studying the exterior of the building and grounds. Well kempt and fairly new looking, she inwardly noted. Was it built for the purposes of keeping people prisoner or for other reasons? It was an interesting question Sonya would like to find the answer to. Was all of this premeditated?

“Where to first?” the blond asked Souji. Even if Souji had told her earlier he hadn’t really explored the ranch, he still knew more about it than Sonya and the blond fought her natural leadership tendencies. He wasn’t a soldier and it wasn’t her place to tell him where to go. O f course, that didn’t mean she couldn’t offer suggestions. “Did you want to check out the area around the building or head down by the lake?”

"If it starts to rain much harder, I will go inside". Or at least seek shelter, he amended mentally before smiling vaguely. "Changeable weather has never agreed with me", he added, the comment meaning to be an explanation, albeit one that wasn't strictly true. It wasn't a lie, it just wasn't the full truth, but the full truth was not of Sonya's concern. That said, though, he was impressed with her reasoning behind exploring outside first.

He didn't answer her question immediately and turned his gaze to the sky briefly. It wasn't as if they were near the coast, so the weather wouldn't change to any great degree depending on which direction they took, regardless of how he felt about the matter. He imagined it would seem odd if he appeared too concerned about what the weather might do. He did doubt, though, that they would find anything particularly worthwhile in the immediate grounds of the main building. He wasn't even certain if there was anything to find. He couldn't help but think that if there were anything, it would be guarded. In that event, the area around the building and the lake were equally fair play.

He glanced about his immediate surroundings before turning back to her. "The lake?" He suggested. "It's somewhere I haven't been, yet. I don't know what's there. Besides, it's further away. As you've said, it's unlikely that we're going to have left this place by nightfall, and we'll have to return here to sleep, so it would make more sense to start further away and move closer as time progresses". If the lake were pleasant, he thought he might spend some time there once the weather cleared up. It would be relaxing, if nothing else. It probably wouldn't be a good idea to needlessly stress and worry about a situation which, for the time being, one could do very little about.

"The lake it is then", Sonya replied with a slight smile as she turned toward the direction of the lake. It was a good distance away but she could clearly see the path to it from between the other housing units and so she started forward. Since the sky was mostly gray the lake in the distance was a steel color but Sonya could imagine what a nice scene it would be on a sunnier day.

It was a little odd to walk in silence so Sonya racked her mind for questions she could ask Souji. When it came to the planet the solider came up short as she already asked him a lot and Souji had made it clear he had only been on the planet for a small amount of time. The blond decided that it couldn't hurt to ask Souji some questions about himself since chances were, they were both going to be stuck on the planet for a while. It would be good to get to know her fellow prisoners.

"If you don't mind me asking, what did you do in your time? You said you were a captain?" the blond asked curiously, turning her brown eyes on him as the walked toward the lake. "Like a military captain or...?" Sonya trailed off since there was numerous types of captains.

"Military captain", he confirmed, nodding slightly. Either she wasn't familiar with history to any great extent, or the Shinsengumi weren't remembered. "I mentioned the Shinsengumi, earlier. I'm the captain of the first unit". Souji was momentarily tempted to explain who the Shinsengumi were, but decided against it; they were a military organisation. If Sonya were interested in the details, she'd ask him about them. If not, then he wouldn't waste breath explaining who they were. After all, he had answered her question as to what kind of a captain he was (although, if the planet did affect how one heard language, he realised that English must use the same word for a military captain and a captain of a ship - not that Japan had a great number of those at all).

He couldn't say that the colour of the sky made a trip to a lake seem all that appealing, and it made him think of the weather he'd been forced to leave in Japan. It had been pleasant, and quite warm. Souji remembered thinking the day prior to arriving on this 'planet' that at times, it felt as if summer would stretch on forever. His first two days here had seemed to imply that it was summer here, as well, but now he couldn't help but wonder if it was the end of summer and approaching autumn.

"I also taught", he added after a brief silence. "Shinsengumi members are expected to at least be capable with a sword. I help to train". Recently, he had been teaching less. Dr. Matsumoto, much to his chagrin, had told him to rest for a week or two, and it had seemed there was nothing he had been able to say that would persuade the man to allow him to do otherwise. He had spent much of the time reading, unless he could find company.

"What did you do? You said you were a lieutenant?" He asked, returning the question politely.

“Yes”, the blond solider replied. “With the US Special Forces”, she explained but she assumed that probably meant nothing to Souji so Sonya explained. “It’s a military unit that operates in highly hostile or politically sensitive environments. It’s…ah….a unconventional unit”, the solider continued, deciding she really didn’t need to get into the specifics of what her department did. The less said the better in some situations and while Souji seemed nice enough she had to be careful in revealing too much.

“I’m lucky I’m not involved in the training. I don’t have the patience required”. Sonya chuckled at the thought of having to deal with a new rank of privates. “No, I think I would probably end up turning new recruits off of the army lifestyle”. Especially if any of them have that bullshit belief that the army is a man’s occupation, Sonya thought with a scowl crossing her face. As much as some might have claimed otherwise there was still a number issues that came up with women in the army and Sonya had encountered more than a few blockheads who were convinced women had no place in the military.

Thinking about it usually just pissed her off so Sonya pushed it out of her mind for the time being. The pair came upon the lake shortly after and the blond noticed a boat house and deck further along. “They have boats”, she noted. Already the solider was wondering how long it would take to cross the lake but judging that water it wasn’t a trip she’d want to make that day. Looking across the lake, Sonya could see trees but no mountains. “I wonder what’s beyond there”, she said out loud in a questioning manner.
