Lestat hadn't come back this morning. This wasn't a big deal. Armand was busy basking in the glow that had come with nearly draining the Doctor and the alien boy Max, and in truth, he hadn't noticed until recently that the other vampire who shared this room wasn't around. It had been days though, he'd realized this evening as he'd come up out of the place where he hid from the daylight. The more he thought about it, the more alarmed he got. Lestat was a wanderer, true, but surely he would come home eventually?

Also, a couple of days ago, through the link that all vampires shared, at least those who had neither created nor been created by the other one, he'd sensed something. He had paid no attention to it at the time, being too drunk on the blood of the aliens, and the bonding that had happened, but now that he had mostly sobered up, he was worried. Yes, he could admit it. He really was fond of the Brat Prince, though he spent half his time trying to act like he wasn't.

Still, as he came out of hiding, he spend a couple of minutes preening in front of the mirror. His skin had become even more pearly white, luminescent, since drinking the powerful blood. He could feel that he was stronger, too, and he snarled playfully at his reflection in the mirror. Because he felt the urge to, he cut off most of his shoulder length hair, leaving it short, boyish, and tousled. Sure, it was a little vain to be worried about his appearance when he was also worried about the Vampire Lestat, but it was just how he was.

Finally, all was ready. It was early, yet, with the sun still casting reddish shadows into the darkening sky. A mark of how worried he was, that he had awoken so early. As he left the building, he opened his mind. The strength of his powers nearly exhilerated him, but for once, he focused. Blonde hair, rakish smile, blue eyes... the Brat Prince himself. Now that he was open to it, he got such a strong sense of him, and pain, that he had no trouble tracking him down. It was hard, though, to keep himself from getting really angry. Who had hurt his Lestat like this?

Finally, he reached the spot where the sense of Lestat was the strongest, and started digging. People called him an angel, and had since he was a mere mortal, and today he was living up to his name. He would rescue Lestat, though he wasn't too worried about the reasons for why. He wanted to, he cared for him. Those two things were enough.

Armand would find him soon. Lestat was beside himself with glee and the thoughts of beginning his revenge even earlier than planned. He picked up thoughts of an alien boy and a Doctor that had empowered Armand. This was indeed interesting…especially the brief glimpse he caught of the one named…Max, so young and pretty.

You’re getting closer, mon chere!, Lestat encouraged his angel as he dug into the earth.

I could take on the whole world right now, Armand boldly exclaimed.

‘Mon Dieu’, Lestat thought, ‘my glorious, copper-haired angel is going to be impossible to live with after this…I think his ego may even grow larger than mine!”.

If Lestat could laugh, he would. Armand knew Louis well. Ah yes, and Louis would pass by every now and then and tell me how it’s good that I am trapped down here, so that I have time to think about the error of my ways, but not you, dear one…for we are of a kind…vampires who don’t apologize for what we are.

The Brat Prince paused…the digging had stopped. He waited, wondering what was happening. Surely, Armand hadn’t given up? Then he sensed great power, huge amounts of soil were being moved telekinetically…Lestat was impressed.

Though the slender, boyish vampire landed atop the bedrock as gently as a cat, Lestat could feel his presence as if a herd of elephants had dropped on top of him. Careful, beloved, I am but 3 ½ - 4 feet into the rock!, he warned, excited to see his angel and end this constant pain he was feeling.

It was probably a good thing all around that Armand was too busy freeing his friend to pick up on the random, stray thoughts of the other vampire. Like any child, Armand was quick to anger, and the whole issue of Max was a bit new to him to be poked at just yet. After all his lectures about the inferiority of the mortals to Lestat only a short time ago, well, he likely wouldn't have reacted well.

The encouragement, though, he easily picked up on. After all, it was directed at him. Also Lestat's summary of how Louis would react. Having spent many years drifting through time with the dark-haired Louis, he had quite a good understanding of him. Louis will always hate himself, and all of us, far more than he could love us. That's his tragedy. He snorted slightly, well able to imagine Louis doing just that. He doesn't understand that creatures like you and I will never change, because we like what we are. So much drama, my God...

The warning was a good thing, because despite his new power, he hadn't learned how to focus it yet and he might very well have hurt the other vampire if he went digging down without knowing that. I will free you soon, and then whoever did this to you will pay... Which was, perhaps, an odd sentiment for someone who spent so much time trying to outdo the blond vampire, but Armand was complex. Pretty much all vampires were, but the age which he'd been taken, and his relative maturity level at the time, made him even more changable than most.

Gracefully, the vampire knelt and touched the rock. With his strength, it was no problem to dig his fingers into the hard rock as if it were undried clay and scoop chunks of it away. For the first couple of feet, he was careful, but still managed to make great progress. In seconds, he was about two and a half feet into the rock. From there, it slowed down, but five minutes later, he was delighted to unearth a hand. But so burned... Oh, my love... someone will pay... While he thought this, he gradually, and very gently, brushed the rest of the rock off his Lestat, so injured...
