DAY TWENTY
Who: Andy and Sam
What: Andy Gallagher arrives on The Planet
When: Day 20, mid-afternoon
Where: Garden
Rating: TBD but it'll be dependent on language, likely.
Status Complete

Somewhere between "demons" and Sam's thinking aloud as he paced the room, Andy had grown tired. Wherever the hell he was, it must've been a long trip, because he was completely exhausted. Then again, he supposed the scare of being almost clobbered with a two-by-four by a guy who probably made most men look ridiculously small in comparison coupled with the what-the-fuckery of it all probably didn't help his situation an awful lot.

He crossed his arms on the dusty wooden table in front of himself and laid his head down. Surely, the others wouldn't mind too much if he took a nap. It wasn't like any of them were going anywhere anytime soon. At least, not as far as he knew. He sure as hell wasn't, anyway; the last one who tried to leave -- Lily, he thought her name was -- wound up hung by a noose from a freakin' clock tower. Forget frigging Frontier Land, this was like being in a horror movie that Andy wanted very badly out of...as soon as physically possible. Besides, Sam had laid salt lines and it would seem that being inside them was the only way to stay safe. So, yeah, he wasn't going anywhere and doubted if they were, either.

Before he knew it, Andy had drifted off.

He woke with a start, complete with a loud sniff and a gasp. The feeling he'd had when he woke up in Cold Oak was the same feeling he had now. He didn't even need to look around to know that something wasn't right and he wasn't, as they say, in Kansas, anymore. The fear settled deep into his belly immediately, but when Andy sat up and looked around, he was confused.

The greenest grass and leaves Andy had probably ever seen were decorated liberally with some of the brightest colored flowers. Their sweet smell wafted lazily through the air. A...garden? Yeah, a giant freakin' garden. What the hell?

"Jesus, not again..." he muttered to himself as he stood and looked around.

It was quiet. Too quiet, actually. He couldn't even really hear any birds chirping, which, you know...that was a little weird, right? Normally, the quiet was nice, but in this case, he could make an exception. Twice in one day falling asleep in one place and waking up in another? Really?

The sun shined brightly above him and it was a little hot. Slipping off his hoodie, Andy scratched the back of his head. "What the hell...?" he asked, looking around in the other direction. "Where...am I?"

Sam paused for a moment, wondering if it would be a good idea to tell Andy that he was dead in the moment Sam had come from. He opted not to. "Uh, Ava's... Ava's dead, actually. Jake snapped her neck. She'd been missing for months, remember? Turns out she'd been at Cold Oaks the whole time and learned how to summon demons, killing off the people who were taken there. She used a demon to kill Lily. Then Jake tried to kill me." He shrugged. "My brother just showed up when poof, I was brought here." He reached out and clap a hand on Andy's shoulder. "It's really good to see you're not hurt, dude."

For a moment, Andy just stared up at Sam, brow furrowed deeply and jaw hanging open stupidly. Ava was dead? She’d been alive when he fell asleep. How could he have slept through that?! And if Jake killed Ava while Andy was passed out at the table and then he’d gone after Sam, then why—

“So, wait a minute. If he tried to kill you...after he killed Ava, then...why didn’t he bother with me? I’d think I was a hell of a smaller threat to him than you are,” he said, gesturing with one hand at Sam’s height and bulk before doing the same with less bravado toward his own stature. “That and...how the hell did I sleep through all that? I mean, I was tired, but not that tired!” he exclaimed.

Then it occurred to Andy that Sam had said it was good to see that he wasn’t hurt. Red flag, right? Sam was clearly not telling him something. “Did you come from a different time than I did, or something?” he asked, giving an uncomfortable laugh. “I mean, where was I...you know, where you came from?” He wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to hear the answer to that, though, so before giving Sam a chance to answer the question, he held up one hand to stop Sam from saying. “You know what? I don’t wanna know. Never mind.”

He looked around again and noticed that, as he took in the change in scenery and weather once again, Sam still hadn’t answered his question about where they were. Looking back at Sam, he gave a weak smile. “I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” he joked. “So, uh, how long have you been here? And...where or...what is ‘here,’ actually?”

"You were still inside the salt line," Sam told him, not mentioning that it had been a broken salt line. "I was right in front of him. Closest target, I guess."

For a moment, Sam thought he was going to have to tell Andy the truth when the fellow psychic started to see through him. Luckily, he stated that he didn't want to know and Sam breathed a mental sigh of relief.

"I've been here a few days. I'm still trying to work that out. People keep on telling me where on a sentient planet but I haven't exactly bought that yet. I haven't run into any trouble here, though. It's a pretty calm and peaceful place."

"Sentient planet?" Andy asked, eyebrows raised dubiously. "All right..."

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other. "So...how did I -- we -- get here? Do you think if I send your brother more of those mind pictures he can come get us out of here? I mean, no offense to this place; I'm sure it's nice, wherever it is, and I certainly prefer it to Frontier Land, but..." he let his voice trail off and he shrugged.

"I mean where've you been staying? Where'm I supposed to stay? Is this about our psychic shit? What? You know?" he asked. He felt a little badly sort of interrogating Sam, but since he'd admitted to being here longer, he must have some idea, right?

"I don't know, dude," Sam answered truthfully. "I'm not even sure if Dean is in the same place we are... where ever here is. Still not exactly sure on that." Sam pointed back towards the lodges. "They have buildings with rooms for us to stay in. Apparently, our rooms are already ready when we arrive. I came here and this guy named Max took me pretty much right to my room. It's really weird, the room looks like pretty much however we want it to."

He paused, thinking for a moment before speaking slowly, "I don't think this is about us being psychic. I'm not exactly sure. There's not really anyone around to ask and get definite answers from. No demons or things trying to kill you though," Sam added with a smile, trying to be a bit reassuring. "Killing apparently is against the rules."

Andy's eyes followed Sam's finger and he looked at the lodges. They looked homey enough, he supposed, but why would there already be rooms waiting for them here? He looked back at Sam again. "All right..." he said slowly. "So, does that mean I have to find the Max guy to get to my room? How long are we supposed to stay here, anyway? I mean, not that I had anything spectacular going on back in Guthrie, but...I'm gonna run outta weed real fast, dude," he laughed.

Sam had said he didn't think it had to do with their psychic connection. "Well, do you still have your thing? I haven't tried mine. For all I know, it's gone," he said a little sadly. He'd grown rather attached to the mind thing, if he was honest. "And that's good at least," he added, grinning when Sam said killing was against the rules. "Because, really, Sam...you're a nice guy and all, but I'm starting to think you're a heaping pile of bad luck, bro." He laughed to let Sam know that he was half-joking and didn't mean offense by it.

Sam laughed. "No, I could probably help you find your room. Max is just another guy staying here like us. He's not in charge of the keys or anything. I don't know how long we'll be here. I've been trying to find a way to get back but no luck so far." He grinned a little. "As for your weed, well, if you really want some, the place pretty much gives you anything you really want or need. It's pretty nice."

He shrugged once again. "I dunno, killing is against the rules and I only get the visions when someone's about to be killed. I assume so." He laughed half-heartedly along with Andy, knowing he didn't mean to insult him, but his mind went back to that... dream or whatever the hell it had been with the Yellow Eyed Demon and his mother... He also thought of Jess. That was two people who had just because the Yellow Eyed Demon wanted him.

He wondered if Andy had had the same weird dream. Jake seemed like he had. Sam hoped not. To be honest, out of all the people that had been at Cold Oaks, Sam trusted Andy the most, believed he wouldn't have killed him, believed he would have listened if he'd tried to. He'd helped Andy out before and sure, things had been... crazy but he still hoped Andy trusted him.

"You'll figure something out," Andy assured. He had every confidence that Sam would help them find a way back home. Sam was smarter about stuff like this - meaning, weird ass stuff. "We'll figure something out," he amended, not wanting to sound like he planned on sitting back and letting Sam do all the work, even if that was exactly what he planned on doing.

"Oh, right, yeah..." Andy said slowly. "Well...I'd test mine out but I dunno if you'd like it, just in case it worked. Y'know?" he asked tentatively. He was itching to find out if his power was still in tact, but he liked Sam and even if he didn't, Sam was much larger than Andy himself. The last thing he needed was for the guy to get upset with him.

Then Andy realized what Sam had said about the pot. "No shit?!" he asked, wide-eyed with excitement. "That's awesome! Damn, I'll stay here forever, for all I care, if it means free stuff when I run out, man and I'm not kidding," he laughed. "Shit's expensive and I kinda feel bad sometimes if I don't pay for it once in a while, you know?" he added sheepishly.

Sam slapped a hand down on Andy's shoulder, giving him a friendly shake. "Thanks, dude. It'll be easier with help. Come on, I'll help you find your room. It probably has all the drugs you want," he half joked, unsure if it was really true. Sam started to guide Andy back to the rooms.

He frowned a little when Andy mentioned testing out his power. "You shouldn't use your power against other people for your own benefit, Andy," he told him. "I'm sure people don't like other people controlling them. Just be lucky you don't see people being killed." Sam really hoped he wouldn't have any more visions of people dying, at least not here. Still, he was glad to hear Andy sounded a bit guilty about not paying for things every once in a while. Andy was a good person.

Andy gave a small, relieved smile as Sam clapped a hand on his shoulder and gave him a shake. Okay, good; they were on good terms. It wasn't like Andy thought Sam had anything against him, but he did think that maybe Sam distrusted him, sometimes, and considering the fact that he'd killed his own twin brother to save Sam's, Andy felt a little upset about that possibility.

As he followed Sam toward the buildings, Andy looked up at Sam. "God I hope you're right about that, because I could definitely use a hit or twelve right about now, man. You can join me if you want, but somehow I get the impression that it's not really your thing," he said with a smirk.

He bristled slightly. If he thought about it, he supposed he could understand where Sam was coming from; Webber had used his power against people. Andy used his power to keep away collections agencies and get free stuff every once in a while. The most notable uses of his power that Andy could think of were saving Tracy's life and sending Dean the pictures of where he and Sam were in Cold Oak to help him find them. He decided it was better just to keep his mouth shut. "Right. Yeah, that would suck," he said, looking ahead of himself again as they walked.

Sam laughed, shaking his head. "Nah, no thanks." Alcohol, sure, but drugs Sam wasn't really into.

"Sorry, I don't mean to get on your case," he apologized. "There was just this one time where I ran into another psychic person who used his powers for his own benefit and it ended up with three people being killed. Dean almost did too." Sam was silent for a moment before he asked, "Hey, have you ever been able to do anything else besides use your mind control thing?"

Sure, Sam had visions, but he always wondered about that one time where he had shoved the dresser with his mind. Had it been just a one time thing? After Cold Oaks, he wondered more about what it meant. Knowing about the demon blood... What if he was turning into some sort of demon? He sure as hell hoped he would never turn out like Ava had... Not for the first time, Sam wished Dean was there. He felt... uncomfortable without his brother around.

But then his mind backtracked to when he had been possessed. If he got out of hand, Dean wouldn't stop him. God, what if he went all crazy and killed someone again? Killed Dean? Maybe it was better he didn't know where Dean was...

Grinning, Andy nodded without looking back at Sam. "Yeah, figured," he replied. He turned his head then.

"Hey, don't worry about it. I get it. You've seen things I never hope I have to, dude, and I don't envy you that. But that's not me," he said sincerely.

Sam asked if he'd ever been able to do anything other than the mind control. "Whaddya mean? Other than the pictures? No...but, then, I never really tried to. Why? Can you do something other than your visions?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

Sam was silent for a few long moments before he answered. "I don't know," he said honestly. "That time... I had a vision of Dean dying and I just freaked out. The guy had telekinesis. He'd shoved me in a closet and propped a dresser up against it so I couldn't get out. I saw Dean getting shot, saw him lying on the ground dead, and I just... The dresser moved. I used the same thing to get out of there. I managed to get there just in time to save Dean but in the end, the guy turned the gun on himself."

Andy furrowed his brow and stopped walking. "That's rough, man, I'm sorry," he replied. He hadn't meant to make Sam relive something that emotionally traumatic. But, to be fair, Sam had asked first.

"I never tried...I don't think I can do anything else. Maybe it was just some weird adrenaline kind of thing only with your mind?" he suggested. "You know..."

Andy started walking again. "Like, uh...transference? Is that the word I want? Probably not, but you follow?"

"It's okay," Sam answered, even if he wasn't sure if it really was. "That makes sense," he admitted. "I only did it that one time and it was only after I saw Dean getting shot." He wondered what had happened in the past to the other people who were psychic... Had they gotten their powers the same way he did? Not everyone's mom had died the same way his had. Missouri had been psychic. Maybe not everyone who had powers got them that way. Still, that didn't stop Sam from wondering about himself.

"Does it ever hurt?" Sam asked. "When I get my visions, I get killer headaches. It feels like my brain is on fire."

"Yeah, sounds like it was just an extra burst. Kinda like the way adrenaline gives people super strength in a case of emergencies or under duress or...whatever," Andy replied.

Sam seemed to be a little lost in thought, so Andy walked beside him silently, not wanting to interrupt him, until Sam spoke again.

Shrugging, Andy shook his head. "No...that really sucks for you, though, dude. I used to get a little twinge of a headache when I first was able to send out the visions or whatever, but...that went away once the thing was sent and it stopped hurting all together around my third or fourth go at it, anyway," he explained.

Andy wondered why Sam was asking him so many questions. Furrowing his brow, he looked up at Sam. "Aren't you supposed to be the expert on this stuff, or whatever?" he found himself asking before he could even process the thought. Once the words were out of his mouth he felt a little badly - it was kind of a rude question - but it was out there, now. Sam could answer it or shrug it off and Andy would be cool with either.

"That's probably what it was," Sam admitted. "I wonder if I'll ever get used to it. At first, they started out as sort of dreams, nightmares that eventually came true. Then I started getting them while I was awake. The pain's never lessened." For a moment, Sam wished he'd asked Ava if she also had killer headaches whenever she had had a vision. Maybe it was just him, for some odd reason. Oh well. He'd never know now.

"Expert?" Sam asked, raising an eyebrow at Andy. "I'm not much more of an expert on the paranormal than any other hunter would be, most likely. Our dad just raised us teaching us all this stuff about it. That's the only reason we even know that the crazy stuff out there is sometimes real."
