Day 3 - Country Line Dancing!
Who: Max, Rose, Maxxie, Gabrielle, Doumyouji
What: Country Line Dancing Class
When: 10:00am
Where: The Ballroom
Rating: TBD
Status: Completed

Max woke up indulging in a long, luxurious, morning stretch and wondering where his blanket went. He must have gotten a bit warm and tossed and turned last night...his blankets were in the floor and the fly of his boxers was halfway to his hip. He chuckled at himself and straightened his boxers, as he stood up. Steamy thoughts of Giselle and Katara prevented him from making his boxers lay too straight, showertime would be playtime he decided...the sixteen year old wondered for a moment if the Planet wold supply them with porn. He blushed, looking around like someone could hear his thoughts,Ummmm...nothing hardcore or anyhing. Just like Playboy or Penthouse or something, y'know...just like naked girls..., he blushed again, heading towards the showers...he missed Liz so much.

On the way to the bathroom, he heard someone outside his door. "Hello?!", he called. "Hello, who's there?!". Walking to the door, he opened it and looked around...no one there, but an envelope was taped to his door with his name printed on it. With a curious expression, Max ripped the envelope off of the door and took it back over t the bed and sat on the edge. The paper inside was thickly textured and the printing nicely calligraphied.

'GO TO THE BALLROOM AT 10:00AM. YOU WILL BE TAKING A COUNTRY LINE-DANCING CLASS. THIS IS MANDATORY.IF YOU DO NOT GO, A GOLEM WILL FIND YOU AND TAKE YOU THERE. DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL THE CLASS IS FINISHED OR A GOLEM WILL TAKE YOU BACK.'

Max let the instructions fall to the carpeted floor, followed quickly by his disbelieving jaw, "Dancing?!", he exclaimed, "Why dancing? Who told them I danced? I don't dance!". He picked the instructions up and placed them on his desk with the envelope. Looking over at his digital clock he sighed, "8:45...an hour and 15 minutes...better get showered and hustle on over there"

After a quicker shower than he had planned, Max dressed in tee shirt, jeans and boots grabbed an apple to eat and hurried to the lobby to check out a map for directions to the ballroom. Reading the diagram on the wall, Max hurried into the massive ballroom to find himself the first one there...besides the stone golem testing out an instructional dvd, which he caught the beginning of on a suspended movie screen... "Howdy, Y'all! I'm Shawn Trautman and I'll be teaching you all the Achy Breachy Heart and The Boot Scootin' Boogie!".

"Hello!", Max greeted, as the golem stopped the dvd, "I'm Max Evans, ummm...reporting for duty".

Rose awoke a little later than the Doctor, laughing when she found the note he'd left on the pillow. Fishing? What on Earth- well, whatever this planet was- was he doing fishing, of all things? She took a quick shower and dressed, blinking when she found a note with her name on it. She read over the instructions and frowned slightly. Country line-dancing? What was that?

She looked down at herself. What did one wear to country line dancing? Hrm. Her jeans and t-shirt would have to do. A quick glance to the clock indicated that it was about ten minutes to ten so she went ambling off in the direction of the ballroom. Pushing the door open, she peeked her head inside and gave a small sigh of relief when she saw that she wasn't the first to arrive. "Hullo there," she said, stepping inside. "I- is this the class thing?"

He was completely out of his comfort zone. He'd never been able to get along with people all that easily, and his life thus far reflected that with startling clarity. It wasn't something he was particularly fond of, it had always been something of a defence mechanism; ninety-percent of the people who tried to get close to him were only doing so because of what he was heir to, the influence he had. Of course, it did have to do with the fact that he had, more or less, had his every whim catered for. Tsukushi had softened him somewhat - he was less like a spoilt brat than he had been, but here? Here was aware from anything and everything he knew, and he was struggling to cope. He just wanted to be home, with people he knew and liked, people who wouldn't make assumptions. He was aware that his temper was worse than normal, but he wasn't able to do a great deal about that, and wasn't that bothered either way. He was certain he wouldn't be here for long, and whether these people liked him or not was therefore of little consequence.

After waking, he had stared up at the ceiling for several moments, lips pushed into a pout as he considered what his day could have consisted of if he'd been in Tokyo. After a few moments, he slid out of bed, shoving his slippers on as he padded over to the bathroom. Pausing by his dresser, brow creasing into a slight frown, he stared down at a white envelope with his name carefully written on the front. Picking it up, he opened it and read the note inside before scoffing and dropping the envelope and note back on the dresser. Country line-dancing. It sounded so distasteful. They could have at least have been taught a more refined style of dancing - he wouldn't have minded ballroom dancing, partially because he already knew how to do several. But line-dancing? That sounded so common! He wouldn't have gone, but the idea of being forcibly brought by one of those things did not appeal.

As such, after having a shower, he chose suitable clothing from his wardrobe - nothing overly flashy, nothing slightly more than his day-to-day wear - but it was still noticeably high quality, and definitely expensive. Glancing at his watch, he attempted to work out how long it would take him to get there - he wasn't even sure where the ballroom was, but he doubted it would be hard to miss. Pulling on and lacing a pair of smart, black shoes, he started his walk down to the ballroom, pausing just outside the door. Hand resting on the handle, he pushed open the door and walked in, shoving one hand in a pocket. Glancing at the others in the room, brown eyes flitting from one to the other, he pulled a brief look of distaste as his gaze fell on the golem, before looking back at the girl and boy. He hadn't come across either of them yet (although he was glad that neither were that Jun kid). Standing a short distance away from them, he looked across at the TV, his expression reflecting how he felt about learning from a DVD. Other than that, he remained silent, primarily out of the fact that he was unsure as what to say.

Gabrielle had had an exciting reunion with Xena the previous day that managed to wear the traveling adventurer out. She had been used to sleeping beside Xena that she had climbed into her bed to lay behind her, snuggling into her pillow. The feisty blonde had never slumbered inside a bed this luxurious before, usually Kings and Queens had those. Quietly slumbering beside Xena, Gabby could sleep through anything including a fierce battle between some local villages and the warrior princess. Which, she did do a few months ago when a band of assassins attacked their camp sight.

Rolling onto her side she moved her arm to coil it around Xena's waist, a habit that became normal for. But when she noticed her best friend wasn't there, her blue eyes snapped open. Lifting her head up from the pillow, "Xena?" She called out to the woman, unsure where her friend had ventured off to. Gabrielle's heart sunk inside her chest as she sat up to toss the blanket off her petite frame.

The envelope Xena had placed on the blanket had fallen to the floor. The sound of it sought her attention as she turned to see the envelope on the floor. "What is this?" Her name was written across it as she picked it up while moving to the kitchen where she saw Xena had left breakfast for her. A smile melted along her lips at the sweet gesture. Sinking down onto a chair she proceeded to eat the few pieces of fruit, some bread, some cheese and the bottled water.

Gabrielle's eyes read across the opened envelope as she read the letter. Her eyes went wide as she smirked. Maybe Xena would be there too? "Country line dancing?" A chuckle escaped her as she finished up breakfast. Indulging in a hot shower that felt like heaven, Xena was right it was wonderful. She got dressed in her usual wardrobe of her red bra, mini skirt, and boots.

Taking the piece of parchment with her she locked up and departed for her class. Luckily, Xena had showed her the layout of everything the previous day of their exploration. Walking inside she stopped to see there were others already present and one of those rock creatures she encountered the day before. "Hi." Flashing a smile, she noticed the people there dressed differently than she did and they had designs she had never seen.

Even in a crowd of strangers, Gabrielle stepped closer. She was a bard so even telling a story full of strangers wasn't a big deal. Noticing the boy by himself, Gabrielle decided to be amicable, "Hi, I'm Gabrielle and you are?" Noticing the strange technology, Gabrielle frowned unfamiliar with the DVD player or even the television. Everything was so new to her but she noticed Xena wasn't around either. Hopefully the warrior princess was around the planet.

The day before had been quite stressing for Maxxie. Once the pharmaceuticals in his system had time to wear off, he down that followed was accompanied by the terror of his new situation. Exhausted and forlorn, the teen had slumped into a bed identical to his own, falling asleep to thoughts of his parents and his friends.

In spite of his worries, he had slept soundly through the night, waking suddenly to a strange noise outside his door. The blond sat up and stretched, yawning and rubbing at his swollen eyes. It wasnt until he opened the door to the hallway, finding the note on the door, that the full impact of his situation crashed down on Maxxie yet again. The boy still did not believe he was on another planet as the others did but did understand that he had been taken away from all those he loved.

Maxxie stood at the door, merely in briefs, and read, his mouth dropping open in disbelief. This had to be a joke! Why would someone kidnap him and make him take dance lessons? Again, the hope that this was indeed a joke took seed in his chest and gave him the motivation to shower and dress, even taking the time to pick out clothing appropriate for this function.

Dressed in a white wife-beater under a worn flannel shirt, a pair of levis, and his boots and hat, Maxxie nearly ran down the hall. He took the stairs instead of the elevator and soon was at the door to the ballroom. After taking a deep steadying breath, Maxxie placed his hand on the door handle. Would this be the punchline to some crazy joke? It had to be.

Maxxie entered the room with a bright smile filled with hope, a smile that began to droop as he surveyed the room of strangers and the odd creature that accompanied them. John and Bridgitte were nowhere to be seen. The group appeared to be mingling and friendly, giving the teenager an idea. Hurrying to a lone Asian man who appeared to have some authority, Maxxie tugged on the arm of his shirt.

"Excuse me, sir. I need to report a crime. I've been kidnapped against my will and I need to get back home. Will you help me?" the blond boy's words were hushed and accented from his native Britain. Blue eyes filled with the depth of his words held those in front of him, his hand never releasing his hold on the man's clothing.

Max tried a bit of small talk with the golem, but gave up when he realized he would receive nothing but wordless smiles from the stone man. He sighed with relief when a lovely young woman walked through the door. She looked close to his age, maybe a few years older. Of course, at 16, it seemed like everyone was older than him here. He smiled widely and greeted her, "Hi! My name's Max! Yep, this is the dance class", he shrugged, "Not sure why I'm here though...I don't really go dancing and stuff".

The door opening sounded through the large ballroom signaling that another classmate had entered. Max expected him to approach them, but understood when he did not. The man appeared to be Asian, Max wasn't sure of which nation...maybe the man felt uncomfortable or he didn't speak any language but his own. Max knew what it felt like to be alone in a crowd, he had felt like that all his life trying to hide as an alien on Earth. He decided to greet the man. "Excuse me for just a minute", he said to Rose, as he walked over to the man.

As he got closer, Max realized that this man too was probably only a few years older than himself. The Asian was well dressed and looked intelligent, but a bit somber...Max smiled and reminded himself not to shout or talk loudly as he saw so many people do to thoe who didn't speak English...sigh...he hated that. Offering his hand, he greeted, "Hello. My name is Max. I see you were forced here as well".

Max's jaw dropped when the next arrival came through the door...a girl, maybe twenty something and she was wearing just a red bra and a mini skirt! His face flushed as red as the bra. When she walked up to him and spoke, he felt like such a fool, he meant to say 'Hi Gabrielle', but...that wasn't to be! What came out was... "Hi, Gableelell! I'm Max!". All he could do was smile and smack himself in the forehead.

Just then Max noticed that the golem was on the move and another golem had joined him...this one looked wooden and they each were carrying a stack of boxes.

Then over at the door another classmate entered...a boy this time, young, close to his age...the boy made a beeline directly for the Asian guy and explained he'd been kidnapped and asked for help. Didn't anybody meet him? Did he just arrive? Did no one show him the tablet?

The golems came to Max first, maybe because he was first to arrive. The first handed him a box with a pair of rich, red-brown, tooled-leather cowboy boots, in his size,inside...and the second handed him a box bearing a matching red-brown, ten-gallon cowboy hat. "Wow! Looks like they thought of everything!", Max, chuckled as he placed the hat on his head.

"Hey," Rose replied to the boy who greeted her. "It's nice to meet you-- and I know what you mean. I'm not much of a dancer, either."

She looked around as the others entered the room. Well, it certainly was an interesting crowd. It almost reminded her of that first party she went to with the Doctor, where they saw the end of the universe and beings from all sorts of different worlds and galaxies came together to see it.

And then they handed her a box. She sat down on the floor where she was and opened it, resisting the urge to roll her eyes when she saw what was inside. Oh God. She didn't hope there was a whole costume in there! She pulled out the hat and put it on-- she may as well, yeah? And then reached for the boots, wondering if they'd be her size.

As the other teenager - slightly older by the looks of him, but possibly slightly younger than Doumyouji himself - approached him, Doumyouji watched him, raising his eyebrows slightly as he stated the obvious (that he'd been brought here against his will, not that his name was Max). Glancing at the offered hand, Doumyouji paused for a moment, before relenting and shaking his hand. "Tsukasa Doumyouji", he answered.

Doumyouji had glanced over at the next person to enter - a woman. It was yet another person he hadn't met thus far. Again, like the woman who had greeted him on his first day, she was dressed in a decidedly unusual sense, and Doumyouji couldn't help but think that it was something that he was going to have to get used to (although it was easier to cope with than people made from rock, wood, or whatever other natural materials the golems were made out of).

The next person to arrive was a boy, and Doumyouji wasn't all that mindful of him, and had been fully prepared to continue standing awkwardly by himself before realising that the boy had stopped next to him and was tugging on his shirt and speaking to him. Frowning, Doumyouji pulled his sleeve away from the kid.

"We've all been kidnapped", he muttered in response, pressing his lips together before glancing down at the boy, expression softening a little. Telling himself to think of the kid in terms of Tsukushi's younger brother - he would undoubtedly be scared and worried, after all. "Apparently there's nothing we can do but", Doumyouji paused, waving a hand dismissively as if to show what he thought of that. "If we can get here, we can leave", he added, nodding as if to emphasise his point. It was stubborn of him, and he really wasn't ready to admit that he might actually be stuck on the planet, but Tsukasa Doumyouji wasn't known for being someone who gave up on things.

As a golem made rounds of each person and handing them a box with items (apparently) appropriate to the situation, Doumyouji pulled the articles out, screwing his nose up at them. They were entirely distasteful, and the note hadn't said anything about being forced to wear clothing and footwear they didn't want to.

"We can't be expected to wear these", he stated, holding the boots away from him. He was somewhat willing to experience a commoners life for Makino, but this? He didn't want to do this. This had no purpose.

Carefully eyeing the Golem's they were definitely strange creatures all right. They never spoke a word to anyone. Perhaps they couldn't speak English?

Anything was possible, at least to Gabrielle who turned at the charming voice beside her. Spinning around to see him her blue eyes locked with his eyes, "Hello, Max. Its nice to meet you." She could tell he was nervous around her, stepping closer to touch his shoulder. "Oh I don't bite I'm not a Bacchae (vampire)." Smiling softly she tried to lighten the mood.

Suddenly a younger boy scampered into the room. Poor boy was scared out of his mind. Gabrielle felt for him as her eyes wandered along his body. Where were the rest of his clothes? Watching the interaction between the blonde and the Asian man who seemed a little aloof in Gabby's opinion.

One of the Golem's turned towards her to hand her a box. Curiously, she opened the box to pull out a black cowboy hat and matching boots. "What are these for?" Noticing the others putting them on she mimicked their movements. "So where do you hail from, Max?" Gabrielle spoke a little differently than others as well.

Maxxie realized as he stood close to the Asian man that he was merely a teen himself. The bearing and expensive clothing of Doumyouji had led the young blond to see merely what he had hoped for.

The teenager was shocked to learn that all those within the room had also been kidnapped. Maxxie's eyes swept over the others with wonder as he continued to listen to Doumyouji's explanation. The dismissive tone in which the taller boy spoke had no effect on Maxxie. In fact, it reminded him of Tony, the popular ring leader within his group of friends. Quickly, he pushed away thoughts of his friends, fearing he would again fall into weeping over the state of things. Instead he displayed a smile, thankful for the hope in the last words of the young Asian.

The smile swept to the other teenaged boy who stood close as he spoke to both, "I'm Maxxie." It was easy to let his simple happiness bubble out, dismissing the fear that troubled him for the opportunity of a good laugh. He also nodded at the two young females in the group, allowing his greeting to apply to them as well. "So, why are we in dance classes then?"

As the golem approached, Maxxie's eyes widened. This was his first meeting with the strange creatures. The others didn't appear fearful of the monsters, merely taking the offered box, so Maxxie, too, waited his turn to receive whatever was being distributed. Once all the boxes had been handed out, Maxxie found he was the only one within the group who did not receive one. With a frown, he looked to see what the others were given, only to smile once he saw what was in the packages. He had thought of the accessories himself.

But...how had someone known he wouldnt need the hat and boots? Had someone been watching him dress in his room? The thought sent a cold chill down his spine, his hands lifting to rub the chill bumps from his arms.

Max was straightening his hat as he looked in the decorative mirrored wall of the ballroom when one of the golems took him by the arm and brought him back to the group; without a word, the golems began to line the classmates up as if they were inanimate chess pieces...The first in line was Doumyouji...followed by Rose...then Gabrielle...Maxxie...and finally Max. Max looked confused, he was wondering why they didn't do the traditional boy-girl-boy-girl line up, but he guessed that meant nothing to a stone golem. The only sense he could make out of this line up was that they stuck three blondes in between two dark-haired guys.

Suddenly, the huge viewscreen came to life, Evenin', y'all! This is Shawn Trautman and the first dance we will be learnin' tonight will be The Achy Breaky Heart. Let's try some basic footwork...

Extend that right leg sideways and tap it twice...good...now extend that left leg sideways and tap it twice...now extend your right leg forward and tap it twice...now backward and tap it twice...now once to the front, once to the back...right foot 1 step forward face to the right...

"OMPF!", Max groaned as he began a turn and then second-guessed himself and turned the other way and stepped on Maxxie's foot and came nose to nose with the other boy, "Oh no! Oh jeesh! Maxxie, I'm sorry!", the alien boy apologized sincerely as he patted the thinner blond boy on the back. He looked down at the boy's foot and asked, "Are you okay? Did I hurt you?"

The golems had stopped the tape and were looking over at the two boys, waiting for some resolution.

Rose pulled on her boots and left the hat on, then got back to her feet. Nobody paid much attention to her, which she didn't mind, and she let the golem move her into the line. She glanced over to the boy who was whining about being kidnapped, and she kept her mouth shut, not wanting to start anything.

The dvd started and she lifted an eyebrow. Achy Breaky Heart? Oh no. She had only heard this kind of music in passing-- and now she was glad that was it. How could anybody like this? Sighing, she followed along, not quite getting into it just yet.

“They’re going to teach us how to do country-line dancing.” She answered Maxxie’s inquiry why they were there. But the poor boy seemed frightened of the large-bulky Golem’s. Reaching out to touch the side of his shoulder, “Oh, its okay. They won’t hurt you they’re more of the strong-silent type.” Offering him a gentle smile, trying to lull his fears of the strange creatures she had seen around Mirage.

One of the Golem’s turned to pull her away, “Hey, hands off, buster!” The spunky blonde exclaimed trying to swat the pair of hands that coiled around her waist. Lining her up with Rose and Maxxie. Too bad Xena wasn’t here to kick the Golem’s around. She would have loved to have witnessed that. Or even just the visual of Xena in a pair of cowboy boots, a cowboy hat, and dancing around would be an amusing sight. Smirking to herself, the traveling bard could just picture the vicious glare of the Warrior Princess.

The distinct sound of a country accent filtered through the air. Turning to notice someone trapped in a box! Frowning, Gabrielle looked more carefully, unsure if this sort of technology. But she didn’t dwell on it too much. The instructions were simple and Gabrielle mimiced the moves. Moving her the heel of her boot along the floor. A warrior had to be graceful on their feet, especially in battle. Gabrielle would move with a smooth grace.

Laughter resonated in the room from Max who collided with Maxxie and the other Asian boy, one who she didn’t know. Spinning around to see another girl she hadn’t met, who seemed less enthusiastic. “Not exactly my kind of dancing.” She spoke loud enough for Rose to hear here, catching eye contact.

"Not mine, either," Rose replied to the girl, glancing over with a smile. "But...I guess some people like this sort of thing?" She lifted her shoulder in a shrug.

"I'm Rose, by the way," she said to the girl. "How long have you been here?"

"Tsukasa Doumyouji", he responded to the boy's introduction of himself, before slipping off his shoes and slowly putting on the boots he'd been given. A thought occurred to him, and he glanced up at towards the golem. "These haven't been worn before, have they?" He asked slowly, disdain evident in his voice. He didn't know whether this was the type of place and activity where they'd figure previously worn footwear would be suitable; after all, when commoners went bowling, didn't they wear shoes that where then returned to the workers, only to be given to someone else to wear after? However, as the golem shook his head (and Doumyouji felt glad for the fact that whilst they were apparently mute, they were capable of answering yes or no questions), he couldn't help but feel a little more relieved. Even if they were the most tasteless shoes he'd seen so far in his life.

Attention turning to focus on the DVD once he was wearing the boots, he followed it with mixed results, his expression settling into something of a permanent scowl as it turned out to be harder than he'd imagined it to be (or perhaps more accurately, he wasn't as good at it as he'd expected himself to be). After stopping for a moment just before the golem stopped the DVD (apparently there were people struggling at it more than he was), Doumyouji pressed his lips together in a thin line, glaring at the instructional figure on the TV. She was stupid (he decided), just as the whole activity was stupid. He shouldn't be expected to participate in something like this; if they were going to teach them to dance, why weren't they being taught to dance something with more class?

Folding his arms across his chest, he cast his gaze across the others in the room for a moment, before returning his attention back towards the TV somewhat expectantly. "I hope we don't have to stay here until we all get it", he half-complained, half-commented. It seemed them 'all getting it' would take a while, and he really didn't want to stay here that long. He'd be happier (compared to line dancing, that was) to go back to his room and do something that was arguably about as productive as this was seeming to be.

Maxxie was more than happy to line up by himself once he saw the golems arranging the others into a line. "It's obviously time to get this party started, right?" the teen laughed nervously. Taking off his flannel shirt, he tossed it to the corner then stood ready to begin, wearing a simple wife beater.

He gave a wince at the instructor's accent and wondered if people really talked like that. He glanced around at the others in curiousity. He wondered if they were all dancers as he was. One of the girls appeared to be wearing a costume, maybe from a production she was part of. The other girl had a permanent scowl, finding something wrong with everything. He wondered briefly what had made that way.

Once the instructor began to explain dance moves, Maxxie's attention went back to the screen, following the moves with seamless grace. On the first turn, he came face to face with Max. He reacted instinctively by reaching out to wrap both arms around the boy, smiling gently. "Whoa there, cowboy! Its your other right, right?"

It only took another moment before Maxxie pulled his arms away, covering his awkwardness by shaking out his foot and laughing, "Had bigger blokes stompin' on 'em than you, Max. They stand up to a beatin'"

Once back to the dance moves, Maxxie learned the sequence of moves quickly, adding his own flare and style. Dancing took the teen away from everything else and brought him joy. It was evident on his face as he kicked up his heels to the twangy music.

Max grinned as Maxxie wrapped his arms around him and called him cowboy…he chalked the almost-hug up to the boy being English. They weren’t so worried about being macho like American guys, he figured. The comment about ‘bigger blokes stomping on his feet’ though…now that had Max worried. Maxxie seemed like a sweet guy. Maybe a gentle soul that others abused. That pissed Max off…if he lived in Roswell, Max would have looked out for him.

The others seemed to collectively hate dancing from the comments they were making. Max wasn’t a great dancer, but he didn’t mind trying and it was a good way to meet others. He smiled at Doumyouji’s comment about staying until we get it and replied to him, “I hope that you don’t have to stay until I get it!”, he grinned, “You might need a cane by then!”

The golems started the video up again and the man with the southern accent started giving directions…more of the same…toe tapping in different directions…crossing your legs one over the other…turning…hopping back three times…clapping and start all over again!”

Max was sure glad that he was on the end so that he had only one person he could bump into. Each time he screwed up, Maxxie was as sweet as the first…he began to think this guy didn’t have an angry bone in his body.

After making them repeat the steps several times, one of the golems held up a card that said ‘refreshments’, while another carried out a tray of what appeared to be lemonade…and yet another brought around a stack of towels for them to dry themselves with.

“Nice to get a break. Think this means we’re half done?”, he asked the group. Patting his face with the towel, he peeked over the edge at the two blonde girls, trying to get a better look at them, as he was too shy to stare at them openly. Max, at sixteen, had only ever dated one girl and was a bit awkward with them to say the least.

Taking a sip of the lemonade, he asked, “So, where are you all from? I was snatched from Roswell, New Mexico”.

Rose moved along to the music; it wasn't terribly difficult to her once she'd seen it done a few times. The music definitely wasn't her cup of tea; she much preferred swing dancing or ballroom to this American Country music. The boots pinched her toes-- she wondered if they'd be better once they were broken in, but then again, how often would she actually wear these kinds of boots? She might, to a fancy dress party, but definitely not on any sort of normal basis.

She glanced over, watching as the two boys embrace, and her lips curved into a faint smile. She was almost reminded with Jack, and the smile faded as she thought about her old friend. She missed him, so much, and wished that there were some way that she could have saved him-- but she had been too late. It still hurt her, sometimes, to think about.

The golem raised a sign and Rose was more than happy to take a break, accepting a towel as it was offered. Lemonade was offered, and she accepted it with a smile and murmured thanks. Half done? Well, she supposed it hadn't gone too badly, and hopefully the remainder of their time would pass just as quickly.

"England actually. London...Well, it was 2012 when we left. We had just seen the 2012 Olympics, and we were on our way to the mineral lakes of Koorharn when we got sucked here. Er- the Doctor and I were travelling. We- we travel through space and time."

Doumyouji paid little attention to scene between Max and Maxxie; he just wanted to learn the dance and then go. If Max was making errors, he was making errors. As long s it didn't keep them there for any longer, or as long as he wasn't treading on his feet, Doumyouji was willing to ignore them and not say anything about the matter.

He looked a little surprised by Max's humorous response to his previous comment however, his eyebrows arching as he looked over at the other boy. He hadn't been a reply he'd been expecting and he wasn't all that sure with how to reply; Max didn't remind him of anyone he was personally friends with, or encountered with particular frequency. Instead he nodded somewhat awkwardly, traces of a smile present on his lips before returning to the dance. It wasn't particularly difficult, he just didn't like it, enjoy it or find it remotely interesting. If he were back home, he'd have suggested (or rather stated with the expectation that it would occur) that Max should get an instructor, so he'd learn quicker and they could all leave.

As a break was signalled, Doumyouji walked over to the refreshments, peering at them warily. Picking up a cup and smelling it, he nevertheless drank some. It didn't taste too bad, he supposed. He glanced back over at Max as the boy spoke. Apparently he liked to talk. "Tokyo, Japan", he answered. He didn't think it was necessary to give an account of what he'd be doing and what he'd planned on doing like that girl had. He wasn't interested. He'd have been more shocked by her comment, though, had he not come across the Doctor the day previous. As it was, he was only slightly surprised by the whole thing (she certainly talked about it in a manner that was simpler than the Doctor - not that he'd been entirely attentive the day previous).

Maxxie enjoyed the activity and the chance it gave him to clear his mind from all he had to worry about. He laughed freely each time Max botched a step or bumped into him. The boy seemed like the kind Maxxie would enjoy hanging around.

Maxxie was sure he was the only gay among the group which seemed to be the way his life went most of the time. It didnt bother him at all and he smiled as he watched Max peeking over at the two girls.

Doumyouji seemed ready to be done with dancing but Maxxie was hoping the instruction would go on for a while longer. He wasnt anxious to get back to the quiet of his room, where his thoughts and worries would crash in upon him again. This opinion was kept to himself however, merely smiling as the two other males joked.

When the strange creature annouced their break, Maxxie accepted a towel, dabbing his face before wrapping it around his shoulders. He would have to remember this ballroom. Maybe he could come here on other days to dance, even if no class was being held. It would be nice to have such a large area that was indoors. The roof of his apartment building was private for the most part, but his practice relied on the weather.

His most recent sip of lemonade almost exited through his nose when Rose first answered Max's question. 2012??? Travel through time? Was this some crazy dream? With a few coughs, Maxxie was able to forcable retain the lemonade, swallowing roughly. If Doumyouji wasnt surprised, Maxxie showed enough for both of them.

His mouth opened to speak and then closed. What did you say to something like that? The young Asian kept his answer short so when Maxxie was able to speak, he mumbled, "Bristol," then as an after thought he added, "It's the UK, yeah?"

"A day or two. How about you? Rose, that's a beautiful name."

Nodding to acknowledge the other girl while Max and Maxxie certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. A faint grin spread along her own lips. Everyone seemed amicable enough, even the boy she hadn't met yet, who seemed a little standoffish.

Following along she giggled at Rose's scoff, "Yeah, its not exactly my kind of dancing for Zeus' sake." A faint trail of perspiration trickled down the side of her cheek.

The Golem's moved over to offer each of them a reprieve, "Thank the Gods!" She exclaimed, walking over to take a glass of lemonade and a towel to wipe across her forehead. As each person introduced where they were from, Gabrielle frowned. She hadn't heard of any of these places really. "I'm from a little town called Potidaea."

Sipping her drink, she nodded as the topic swiveled to the future. "The future?" This land really did bring everyone together from all sorts of dimensions.

Max was very interested in where everyone was from,"Wow, England, Japan...both places I'd love to go...", he took another drink of the lemonade, that tasted suspiciously like his mother's lemonade, "...but, I'm sorry, I'm not really sure where Potidaea is. What country is it in?".

The break, if they timed it, lasted exactly 15 minutes. Then the golems came around to collect the towels and glasses and corral the people back into line. The steps were reviewed a few more times and then the golems removed the instructional video.

While the wooden golem readied another DVD, the stone golem held up a sign that read 'Assume position, wear hats, smile, enjoy'. A third golem had disappeared into a small room just inside the entrance.

Suddenly, the lights went out and red, white and blue spot lights came on, illuminating the line dancers. Then a swirl of rotating star-shaped lights started...followed by the screen above...

Ladies and Gentlemen, Billy Ray Cyrus!

The stone golem held up another sign that read 'DANCE NOW'.

There was a live Billy Ray Cyrus concert to dance to on the over head screen and more...what looked like hundreds of dedicated fans dancing the Achy Breaky heart right along with the five new students there in the ballroom.

You can tell the world you never was my girl,
You can burn my clothes up when I'm gone,
You can tell your friends just what a fool I've been,
And laugh and joke about me on the phone.

You can tell my arms go back to the farm,
You can tell my feet to hit the floor,
Or you can tell my lips to tell my fingertips,
They won't be reaching out for you no more.

This wasn't exactly Max's kind of music, but he hooked his thumbs in the front of his jeans and smiled a big, white smile as he danced. H had finally gotten the directions and the steps right and he was enjoying this...it felt strangely nice to be moving in sync with four other people. A bittersweet thought crossed his mind when he considered what Isabel and Michael would say is they saw him right now.

But don't tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
I just don't think he'd understand.
And if you tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
He might blow up and kill this man.

You can tell your Ma I moved to Arkansas,
You can tell your dog to bite my leg,
Or tell your brother Cliff whose fist can tell my lip,
He never really liked me anyway.

Or tell your Aunt Louise, tell anything you please,
Myself already knows I'm not O.K.,
Or you can tell my eyes to watch out for my mind,
It might be walking out on me today.

But don't tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
I just don't think he'd understand.
And if you tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
He might blow up and kill this man.

But don't tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
I just don't think he'd understand.
And if you tell my heart,
My achy breaky heart,
He might blow up and kill this man.

When it was over, Max actually clapped and patted Maxxie on the back. The lights came back up and a golem held up a sign 'Excellent Class'. Next sign...'Due to difficulties, No time for Boot Scootin Boogie'. Next sign...'Class Dismissed'.

Max quickly exchanged the foot torturing cowboy boots for his more comfy hiking boots and returned his cowboy hat. "It was very nice to meet everybody. I hope to see you all again around the ranch". Patting his abs, he grinned, "I'm going to head on over to the restaurant, I'm starving!".
