It wasn't really nighttime yet, but Vaako had found himself waiting all day for the sun to set. He'd woken up in Riddick's arms still, and that's how he wanted to go to sleep. Free, free from his wife, forever. The Lord Marshal had said so. On top of that, the previous night had been the first time he hadn't had nightmares since he came to Mirage. Maybe it was that his hand stayed on the glowing print all night long.

He'd gone out, as usual, but found himself wandering aimlessly. He'd found all he could find in the library, he sensed that. There was nothing more books could tell him. They were on uncharted territory. Anyway, the sense of impending doom that he was feeling would have made it impossible to focus on reading. So, instead, he'd wandered through the warm sunshine, and this time, he didn't wear any armor. For the very first time, probably, since becoming a Necromonger, he went out without even one piece of the heavy plate armor. It felt different, walking around without it.

Finally, the sun had set, and Vaako had hurried back to his room... their room. He found himself going immediately to Riddick's bed, where the Furyan was still lying, and immediately joining him. It wasn't time to sleep, of course, but Vaako just wanted to hold him again. He was shocked and amazed that Riddick had allowed it last night. Sighing softly, he held on tight and whispered into the other man's ear.

"I think it's coming for me... I feel it."

It wasn't that he could feel Lestat approaching, not exactly. After all, he'd never had any contact with the vampire. He didn't even know about Riddick's experience with him, given that he hadn't been on the Planet yet. Anyway, it was nothing so specific as that. He just felt a little ill, almost shaky. The sense of impending doom got a little more distinct, nothing more. Still, to the Necromonger commander, it was more than enough.

If he would just let himself, he would have been clinging to Riddick. He certainly wanted to. But he was the stoic warrior, a Necromonger, no matter that he was displaced from his time and even his universe, he suspected. He was still who he was, Lord Cylus Vaako of the greatest, most powerful fighting force ever formed. He wouldn't let himself be scared, he wouldn't cower. After all, he'd always known someday, something was going to get him. All Necromongers did. Why not now? And, of course, he'd fight it with every last breath in him.

Very deliberately, he got out of the bed, went over to his own, recently neglected, side of the room. His armor lay there, just where he'd left it, and he began to put it on. Slowly, methodically, he worked. If his hands shook a little, it didn't slow him down for a second. Finally, that was done, and he picked up his large double axe and went back to Riddick's bed. There, he took the Furyan's hand in his. He was ready. Something told him that it was going to happen soon.

The knock came at the door, and it was like confirmation to the dark-haired warrior. It was coming. He should get up, face it. He started to move from the bed. Whatever it was that caused this sickness, this darkness in his mind, he would face it. Honor allowed no other way. His face was perfectly expressionless. It wasn't that he was stupid. He knew this was likely dangerous. But fear had no place in the heart of a warrior, not when he was headed off to battle the unknown.

"Rick... it's here."
