Who: Violet Baudelaire and Whoever Plays Greeter
What: Getting Dumped onto the Planet
When: Day 14
Where: Somewhere on the Beach
Rating: PG-13 for Olaf Being Spoken of
Status: Complete

Violet Baudelaire and her family had been on the run from Olaf when the nightmare finally ended. Little did she know this would be another in A Series of Unfortunate Events. The planet with a sense of humor decides to dump Violet onto the beach and into the surf. So a now very drenched with surf Violet was coming around after a not so smooth landing and realized this was not where she was supposed to be. "Klaus? Sunny?" she called hopefully of her family being around. But out of habit since part of her still felt like Olaf was around (and could be behind this) she grabbed a couple of sticks and jury rigged a makeshift weapon for herself (thankfully her gear kit had washed up alongside her on the shore). "Well whoever decided to pull this had better not be Olaf!" she hissed as she grabbed several fallen parts and spotted what she hoped was a loaded dumpster. So Violet being the curious sort headed for the dumpster but not before being soaked by another freak wave.

Things were not looking too bright and well what would help Violet was a friend and maybe some dry clothes. But anyone could see one thing within young Violet: a massive sense of fear and feeling more alone than words could express. She did realize,"At least my photo was not ruined" as she plucked the photo of her,Klaus and Sunny from the ground. But she was dazed, a bit confused and to be truthful Violet did not look very well. But being on the run for so long was to blame.

After a lesson in gun control and a very depressing morning with Vincent immediately following that, Katara decided she needed to let out her aggressions in some waterbending training. The ocean was obviously the perfect place for this as there was a surplus of water for her to bend. She didn’t want to think about what had happened between herself and Vincent. She only wanted to release an excess amount of unwanted energy.

Fury fueled her as she went through several exorcizes with water. Standing on the beach, she bent a stream of salty water from the waves, moving in a smooth, powerful motion so that it worked like a whip through the air. Before the stream even had time to fall back into the ocean. She ran toward it before leaping into the air. Just before her feet hit the water, it froze so she slid along it and over the crest of the frozen wave. As she landed among the other waves, Katara froze the water around her feet into a board-like mass, even as the wave she’d slipped upon to get there melted away. She rotated around, manipulating the current to surf, before allowing the surfboard to melt away. However, the waters were parting beneath her until she stood upon the sand beneath the waters while two walls of water rose up on either side of her.

That was when she heard a splash incongruous with anything she’d been doing or the sound of the waves. Katara allowed the walls on either side of her to crash back down around her, soaking through the light fabric of her clothing, making the greens and browns darker hues. She waded through the water toward the beach, using bending to propel her forward faster. Once she made it to the beach, she found the source of the splash: a girl who had made it there before her. Quickly, the waterbender bent the water from her hair and clothing, replacing it in the ocean where it belonged, before approaching the young woman.

She looked upset, and she had the same look that most new arrivals had in their eyes when they were trying to figure out what happened. Katara hadn’t the slightest indication who Olaf was, but she knew she needed to help this girl. Besides, doing something good would likely help her forget about the harm she’d caused that day already. “Hello.” She said warmly. “You must be new here. I’m Katara.” Time to break the bad news.

"I am new and my name is Violet" Violet held onto her gear kit as she spoke. The younger woman's eyes were blazing,"I was on the run from a madman named Count Olaf when I somehow landed in the water, should explain that being soaked to the skin" her simple skirt caked with surf and her dark hair just as a mess.

“Well, he won’t bother you any more, unless the Planet decides to bring him. If he’s mad I doubt that will happen. I haven’t met anyone unfriendly or crazy yet.” If only she had known the truth. Despite her having said that, Katara could still remember that uncomfortable feeling she got from David when she’d met him in the garden. She had no idea why she’d felt that way. He seemed friendly enough. Vincent had also been monstrously feral acting when he’d first arrived, but she new he was good in his heart. He could have killed her, but he didn’t even harm her a little other than to give her a fright. “It’s nice to meet you, Violet.”

“Let me help you with that.” Katara offered, indicating Violet’s sodden clothing and hair. With a simple gesture using both of her hands, the nineteen-year-old moved in a fluid, graceful motion, her hands moving away from the girl. As this happened, the excess water pulled away from the younger teenager’s clothing and hair, leaving them dry as if she’d never entered the water. In another movement, the water streamed into the ocean where it belonged. “There. That should be better. When I first arrived I was lucky enough to have only landed at the bank of a lake rather than in it. That was when the resort was a farm of sorts, though.” She paused. To an outsider, she wouldn’t be making any sense at all. “You need to see something. It’ll make what I’m saying sensible, at least as sensible as it can possibly be.”

Katara motioned for Violet to follow her before she started off for the courtyard where the plaque was contained. This girl would need emotional support to get through this as far as the waterbender could see. She eyed the makeshift weapon in the other’s hands. “The Planet has a plaque it wants everyone to read who arrives.” When they entered the courtyard, she motioned toward the tablet mounted upon the wall. She stood a little back, to give Violet some privacy while she read. She would try her best to answer any questions the other might have and to get her situated.

Violet went over and read the plaque, now she was blazing and well after everything she's gone through so far it's just another problem to face. "I just want my family back, my brother and sister are all I have left. I'm alone unless this place grabs them" she slumped against the wall. "I get dumped into an ocean, things can't get much worse" after making sure her inventor's kit was nice and dry.

"I was on the run for so long from Olaf I've never known anything real much less normal, only trust I have is family and the Quagmire triplets. They are friends"

Katara moved toward Violet when the girl slumped against the wall. She crouched beside her. “I know it won’t seem like much, but I know a little bit what you’re going through. When I was fourteen I was on the run with my brother an our friend for almost a year from someone who wanted to kidnap our friend. When the Planet took me, I was taken away from my family and friends, too. I think everyone was. There is hope, though. One of my friends is here. She came over a week after I did, but I’m sure someone from your family or the Quagmire triplets could be brought here.” The waterbender had no idea who those people were, but it was obvious they made a big impact on her life. She probably made an impact on theirs, too. It was sad they’d have to go without one another because the Planet saw fit to disrupt their lives.

“Your room key will be in the lobby.” Katara stood, offering her hand to help the younger teen to her feet. She walked with her through a series of hallways until they made it to the lobby. Sure enough, a light blinked above a new key. Moving to the desk, the waterbender plucked it up, her eyes passing over the number. “You’re in unit B, number two-oh-two. I can show you where that is. Are you hungry at all, though? We can get something to eat first, if you like.” It was about lunch time anyway. If the girl had been on the run, she might not have had time to eat. Food might sound like a good idea to her.

"A little bit, being on the run means eating got pushed to the backburner" Violet was honest. She told Katara about her brother and sister as they walked,"Klaus has the sort of memory that lets him remember anything he has read and it has come in handy so many times. Sunny is just a baby but her teeth have saved her more than once from Olaf" adding in a bit about the Quagmires. "I am the inventor of our little group and it really was the 3 of us against the world for the longest time" as the kit showed. Her photo came out unharmed during the landing and she passed it over.

Katara nodded. Usually, for her group, it had been sleep that was pushed to the backburner, but food consumption was often something that needed to be skipped as well. They were just lucky they had plenty of terrain in which to hide, and most people were friendly enough to keep their locations secret from the Fire Nation. The Air Temples were useful places to hide as well, though.

A smile turned up the corners of Katara’s lips as Violet told her about her family. She decided to share her family as well. “My brother, Sokka, was the idea guy of our group. He’s also a bit of an inventor, like you. I bet he could give you a run for your money.” She teased. Sokka had always believed in the power of stuff, and from the looks of it, Violet had her own tools to use. “Aang, the friend who we were trying to keep hidden, was always the energetic one. He’s incredibly sincere and caring, too. It was just us running from the Fire Lord’s son for a long time. Later we picked up Toph. She’s an earthbender- the same way I’m a waterbender, but with earth- and she’s incredibly tough. She’s the one who was taken here after me. Eventually, Zuko- the Fire Lord’s son- actually stopped trying to capture Aang and joined us to teach Aang firebending the way Toph taught him earthbending, and I taught him waterbending.” She paused a moment before adding, “I’m sure everything will be okay with them. From the sound of things, they’ll be able to take care of themselves just fine.”

Katara led the girl into the restaurant. She figured the girl might want more to eat than a piece of fruit or something, especially if she hadn’t eaten in a while. She sat at a table, motioning for Violet to do the same. There were menus, but she rarely used them. A clay golem approached them, moving as gracefully and smoothly as if he were made of flesh and bone. “You can order anything you can possibly dream of here, and they’ll have it made really quickly.” The Water Tribe femme’s eyes turned toward the golem. “I’ll have giant sea crab sushi with mango sauce and some water to drink.” The golem turned toward Violet, awaiting her order.

Violet asked for some tea along with some fish and chips, having missed them while on the run for so long. "I was the brains,Klaus had the books and Sunny was our secert weapon since Klaus and I joked her teeth could go through anything" she admits with a tiny smile. "As for my kit I just found tools along the way along with parts from various places like junkyards, dumpsters and the occasional trash can. Especially good are bits of wires and Klaus called me a female McGuyver as an inside joke" as she told of one weapon she made from parts they found in a box,"All it took was some rolling pins and a set of trashed roller skates"

A couple of minutes after the golem departed, it returned with their orders. Katara used her chopsticks to dip a piece of sushi into the mango sauce. Rice, giant sea crab, seaweed, and mango tastes filled her mouth as she bit into it. It really was quite delectable. The Fire Nation where she’d learned of sushi had of course used different kinds of sea meat to fill the center of this delicious food item because giant sea crab was indigenous to the North and South poles, but she wasn’t adverse to mixing the food of two nations together.

She listened as Violet told her more about her family. Many of the things she mentioned were things of which Katara had never heard. The only thing that sounded familiar was a wire. The Doctor had told her about telephones and the wires that carried the messages on them. She figured this girl came from a world more like his than hers. “That’s incredible. I have no idea what most of those things are, though. In my world we don’t have junkyards, dumpsters, trash cans, or roller skates. Who’s MacGyver?” She probably sounded incredibly naïve to this girl, but she didn’t care. It was better to ask questions and shed some light on what was what than to keep silent and remain in the dark.

Katara took a sip of her water before picking up another piece of sushi to pop into her mouth.

"MacGyver is something Klaus read in a book once, not sure which one. But he calls me a female version in good fun" Violet explained. She let Katara peek into her kit between bits of fish and chips,"I just believe in reusing things and some of the best ideas come from the things people toss and think they can't reuse."

“Oh.” Katara said simply once she had swallowed her food. She understood people tossing away things they didn’t think they could reuse. In the Southern Water Tribe they reused everything they could from bones to snow to fabric. It had been irritating to see how much the nobility of the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation had thrown good things away. Then again, a lot of good things they threw away ended up helping a lot of Earth Kingdom refugees and poor people in the Fire Nation once the waterbender had gotten wind of it. She’d organized charities to help those people, and she noticed a lot less was thrown out after she’d done that.

Violet’s collection of items was really impressive to Katara. She’d found uses for things the waterbender could never have even named. She already felt she got along well with this girl, but having the common interest of reusing what seemed to be less the usable was a definite plus. “I know just what you mean. I was raised to use everything I could. If it stopped working for one thing, it could be made into something else.” Then again, everything they made was built to be sturdy enough to pass down through several generations. Flimsy things just didn’t fit in well in the icy, treacherous terrain of the South Pole. An idle thought wound through her head that she couldn’t wait for the resort to change into that ski resort she’d read about in that book. She’d never been skiing, but there was a lot of snow, and she was definitely looking forward to that.

Katara finished up her lunch. She’d eaten slowly while they talked, not wishing to rush the girl. Besides, she’d never been a quick eater. It just wasn’t good for the body to scarf down food the way her brother did. She sipped the last of her water as she waited for Violet to finish her fish and chips. It didn’t look overly appetizing to the waterbender, but she’d never seen that food item before. It looked like something Sokka would have loved, though.

"I just believe in reusing and one book Klaus found only proved that, people waste so much when it can be fixed or even reused" Violet's dark eyes were blazing but in the good sense of the word. "Even was working on a teething ring with reuse in mind, that was just in planning stages to be honest. But the best ideas sometimes just happen" as she nibbled her fish. "Forgot to explain, chips are actually french fries where I come from"

It was so strange, the terms that Violet used so casually went right over Katara’s head. A teething ring? Rings were hard, so how could that possibly help a baby feel better? Wouldn’t it just hurt it? Maybe in her world, baby’s needed to gnaw on hard things because they had stronger mouths than in her own world. After all, the inventor before her had said something about how her sister could bite through anything. Even if the waterbender was pretty sure it was mostly just a joke, who knew how much she could really bite through?

“Yes, but it doesn’t hurt to have a plan.” Katara responded. Sometimes it was nice when things were spontaneous and just happened, as Violet put it, but having a plan was important, and it often aided a person better. Being able to adapt if something goes awry was equally important, though.

To Katara, Violet’s explanation of chips didn’t help. To her, the food the younger girl was eating just looked like someone had sliced up a potato and fried it. She wasn’t as big on fried foods as Sokka, but that was definitely okay. “I don’t actually come from Earth.” The waterbender announced, assuming that must be from where this girl came. “There isn’t a name for my planet, but everything I’ve been told about Earth makes me believe more and more that my world is a different one. A lot of the things you’re talking about don’t exist where I come from.”

When Violet finished her meal- Katara had already done so- the waterbender made to stand. “I can show you to your room now, if you like?”

"Of course" as Violet slung the kit back over one arm. "I also like having a backup plan but sometimes the best ideas are on the fly or what I find in a junkyard, that is a place where people toss things they think can't be used" she was sure to explain. "But I like your idea of different versions of our homes worlds, one book of Klaus's spoke of parell worlds and that makes perfect sense"

“Oh. That makes sense. A yard where people put things they think are junk. Well worded.” Katara said with a smile. “It would be like a treasure trove for those who actually know how to reuse things.” She liked the idea of it. Well, no, that was wrong She liked the idea of being able to reuse anything that could be reused, but she didn’t like the idea that people just threw things out into one big place where it would sit and rot and be unused except by some kids who were intelligent and imaginative enough to sift through them to find things.

“Parallel worlds?” That was a strange way of thinking about things. “What if it’s really just a different world, not necessarily one that’s parallel? There could be other planets all over the place where people live differently.” If there could be this Planet, there could be other planets. It wasn’t inconceivable any more.

Katara led the girl outside to the building marked B. She then led her up the stairs to the door marked 202. “This is your room.” The waterbender handed Violet her key. “It was lovely to meet you, and if you need anything at all don’t hesitate to ask. My room number is E104. Building E is on the other side of the main building. If you need anything at all, don’t hesitate to ask. If I’m not in my room, one of the golems can help you find me.” She squeezed the younger girl’s shoulder comfortingly and smiled warmly before leaving the girl to herself.
