Day Thirteen
Who: Katara and Vincent Valentine
What: Food Consumption and Dancing
Where: The Restaurant to start
When: Day 13 ; Evening
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete

After a morning of self training with a staff, and an uncomfortable afternoon with a man who gave her the creeps, Katara was finally able to relax… a bit. Her nerves were still buzzing uncomfortably around her lithe figure, making her nervous, whenever she thought of Vincent.

As evening drew closer, Katara decided she wanted to dress nicer than usual. She didn’t expect her evening to consist of anything pressing. That was probably why Katara chose to dress in robes rather than her usual Water Tribe attire. She hadn’t really been thinking about what she was going to wear, but she figured she wouldn’t be doing anything that required a lot of mobility. Therefore, the waterbender figured she could wear something that wouldn’t aid in movement. After a quick bath to wash away that day’s dirt and dust and sweat, she dressed.

First she wrapped a simple, light red robe around her person. Then she slipped her arms through the quarter length sleeves of the outer robe that billowed out only by a couple of inches, and wrapped the light fabric around herself. It extended to the floor, though it barely dragged against it. There were slits up the sides to her mid-thigh that revealed the under robe. Upon her feet she wore a pair of sandals that looked nice with the deep red of the fabric and the lighter red of the trim. Around trim, flowing designs were embroidered in black. About her throat she wore a golden chain. Her hair was styled half up into a bun, clasping it with a red and golden clip, while two loops of hair were attached to that, and the rest of her hair flowed over her shoulders and down her back.

Once the sun had set she sought out a golem to direct her to wherever Vincent might be. They moved silently, unspeaking over the grounds. Katara was led through the trees at a quicker rate than her eyes could adjust to the sudden shadows, and she had to hold her robe up to keep from slipping on it. The moonlight shone through the trees to light the way, but the deeper into the forest they went, the thicker the trees became, and the shadows darkened. The golem moved at a swift pace, never really allowing for a moment’s pause so she could adjust to the dim lighting. Somehow, though, Katara felt herself grow more anxious, as if she knew they were near to Vincent.

Eventually, the trees began to thin again so she could finally see a bit. As soon as Katara caught sight of Vincent, the golem departed. She knew he saw her, too. The trees were thinner here, but, for what reason, had yet to be discernable. All she knew was that the moonlight filtered through the trees, casting eerie shadows over them both, but she wasn’t afraid. There was nothing to fear while he was around. Except your reactions… The waterbender thought. She swallowed. She did feel a bit nervous, and her belly filled with dragonflies that flew around, knocking uncomfortably against her organs. She walked toward him until she was only a few feet away, and his crimson eyes were visible to her silver optics.

“Ha-have you eaten at all today?” Katara asked, her brows creased in question. As far as she knew, he rarely ate anything, and she’d never seen him eat- even when she’d cooked for him. A not-wholly-unpleasant shiver wound its way up her spine at the thought of what actually had happened that night, but she stuffed it down. He would deteriorate away into nothing if he didn’t eat, and she’d promised him that first night they’d met that she wouldn’t allow that to happen. “Come eat something with me. The food here is really good.” She extended her hand toward him, motioning for him to go with her. It sounded like an offer, but she didn’t intend to take ‘no’ for an answer.

Vincent's eyebrows rose lightly as she looked at him and then turned to blush. He looked down at himself, wondering if he'd done anything that would make her blush like that. He just didn't know what he could have done, and as usual, Katara was something of a mystery to him. Had he been watching anyone else he would have seen instantly that she had some sort of feelings for him, but his own feelings got in the way of his ability to view her objectively. It was like looking at her was through some sort of haze, that everything she did had a glow about it, and none of it was wrong or human. The heart was a mysterious thing, and Vincent had never been too good at learning to deal with his.

And then she looked at him strangely when he started to turn away and blush, which only made him feel more stupid. Had he really been wanting it to be slitted like that? Wouldn't that have been a little cold for tonight? Maybe the guys who had teased him in training had been right, that at his core even he was a pervert. They had been far more extroverted about their oggling of girls, though, and had always teased Vincent that he would really be the biggest pervert of them all someday. He hoped that wasn't true, but right now he was feeling pretty stupid with Katara staring at him like that.

When Katara met his eyes again there was a blush at her cheeks, and Vincent looked away, thinking that she probably thought he was a lech. But she wrapped her arm around him a moment later and started walking with him in the darkness through the woods. It was dark, but he could see amazingly well in the dark, and would now and again lightly tug her away before she tripped over a twig or something in the darkness. She would feel him pause though, and his head turned to look at her there in the darkness. Though it was hard for her to see him, he could see her perfectly, the soft feminine lines of her face, the red hue of the rhobe she wore, the way her soft lips met.

Slowly she would feel him start to shift against her, his head, whether she could see it or not, leaning closer to hers, but then after a moment he pulled away and mumbled a soft apology. What was he trying to do, making a move there in the dark? She... she was still out of his reach, after all. She'd told him she wanted him to stay, but then bid him goodnight like on any other night she would have. He had to face it, he was a friend, nothing more, and he'd never be anything more to Katara, no matter how much he tried to convince himself otherwise. Self doubt and sadness flooded over him like waves would were he lying on a beach, and he forced himself to stare ahead rather than look at the girl beside him.

When they finally got to the clearing, Vincent paused as he'd still not really decided which way to go. When he turned and looked at her though, in the full moonlight she looked stunning, like a moon spirit come down from the heavens, only in the night. Again, Vincent felt his breath still and his heart race as he looked at her there in the light, sliding his arm from hers, his leather gloved hand lightly coming up and touching the side of her face again, the way he had last night. He couldn't resist just that... she looked... wow.

"I... you..." Vincent lowered his head softly. "You look really beautiful..." he said, honestly, his crimson eyes peeking through the lazy bangs that hung over the headband at her. He felt foolish again, and softly turned then, with his back to her for a moment, reaching up to scratch the back of his head in an embarassed manner. She probably thought he was an idiot for all of this.

"I... I'll go change, so..." He stepped back towards her and without thinking lightly took her hand. Of course, once he'd done it he realized that it was stupid... she... she probably was thinking he was hitting on her, but he couldn't let go of her hand because she'd think something was wrong with it, and... damn it all he didn't know what to do now. So he kept walking, his hand lightly holding hers, afraid to do more than that as they moved, now and again glancing at her from the corner of his eyes before looking away, embarassed.
