Day 12- Training in the Sunshine
Who: Xena, Gabrielle, Katara, Toph & Faith (posting order)
What: Weapons Training
When: Early Morning
Where: A grassy area outside the gardens
Rating: Depends, probably PG
Status: Complete

Xena pulled herself from sleep. Something was different. The familiar sound of breathing next to her wasn't it. It was the absence of wind and rain being slammed against their windows. It was quiet, almost too quiet. The knotted feeling in her stomach hadn't lessened while she slept, either. She groaned and sat up. The bard was still sleeping. Xena wanted to let her sleep, but she also wanted to take advantage of the sunshine that was streaming cheerily through their window.

She scooted out of bed and leaned over Gabrielle. Mindful of morning breath, she shook the blond. "Wake up!" She sing-songed at her. "Rise and shine, rise and shine!" She mimicked a line she'd heard from Joxer about a thousand times one morning as a day continually repeated itself. She smirked and watched the battling bard's eyes flutter before reluctantly opening. "We are going to work out today, out there, in the sunshine." She gestured toward the windows.

Grinning, she dressed in her leathers and pulled on her bronze armor. She pulled her hair back halfway, leaving the black fringe against her forehead. She'd once pulled it back, but she didn't like it that way much. She sat down and pulled some cheese and bread out of a bag. She tore off some of the bread and munched on it while Gabrielle got dressed. She ate some of the cheese as well and waited while the bard ate her share of breakfast, too.

"Ready? We've got some girls to train. Katara and her friend Toph. Katara is the one I've been training on the staff. I've never met her friend, but she wants to learn the sword." She opened the door and walked out, down the hall to the exit and over into the next loding unit, E. She headed to the first floor room she knew was Katara's and banged on it. "Katara, it's Xena. Time for some more training!" She grinned at Gabrielle, wondering if she'd woken the girl like she had a couple days ago.

When Katara and Toph were ready, Xena made her way out of the lodging units into the sunshine and headed for the gardens. She knew there were grassy areas where they would be able to train. And lo and behold, when they arrived, there was a rack of weapons waiting for them off to one side. Xena shook her head, mystified at the way this Planet worked. "Alright, ladies. Are we ready for a little hard work?"

As Xena continued to deflect the attacks Faith was throwing at her, she could hear Gabrielle teaching Katara some offensive moves. She could also see, out of the corner of her eye, that Toph had changed dummies and was trying to translate the offensive moves Gabrielle was teaching with the staff into attacks with the sword.

Still, she didn't pause, and her attention on Faith did not waver. The girl was strong, much stronger than she ought to be considering her look. "Who's Muscles now?" Xena wondered if she were a little supernatural. But as strong as the girl was, she was no Hercules. Xena had fought and beaten Hercules, the God of War Ares, and countless others. She had singlehandedly killed half of the Olympic Gods. A mortal girl, with superhuman strength or not, was not going to get the best of her.

It was rumored that Xena was half God anyway. Perhaps the offspring of Ares himself. She'd been concieved when her father was away at war and her mother reported that he just appeared one night. It was a habit of the War God to sleep with his warrior's wives while they were away at battle, taking on their visage. It had never been proven, and Ares still denied it to this day, but it was a possibility.

She listened to the directions Faith was calling out to Toph and had to smirk. This girl wasn't even putting in all of her effort. Well, that was about to change. Xena changed from the defense to the offense and began to attack. She jabbed, slashed and twisted her sword in the unprotected places that Faith left open. She really was good, one of the better fighters she'd gone up against, and she challenged Xena. She liked that.

She also began to incorporate some of her acrobatics. She twisted from left to right, switched her sword from hand to hand, flipped over Faith and pressed the point of her blade to her spine in between her shoulderblades as she landed. Breathing somewhat heavily from the exertion. "Good. You're good. I'm impressed." She dropped the sword so Faith could turn around, but she didn't drop her defenses. Sometimes after you let someone go, they tried to fight you again. She would be prepared for that, though.

Her gaze slid sideways to Toph. "By the time I'm through with you, you're going to be able to do just what we've done here, if not more. But we are going to start with defense, whether you like it or not." She turned to Katara and unhooked the chakram from her belt. "I told you I'd show you how this works. Do you want a demonstration now?"

Gabrielle listened to Katara’s words, slowly nodding though she had no idea what waterbending was. She imagined it was just like what Toph had done with the rock when she made it appear as a dummy the only change is Katara used water. “Defense is big in any form of fighting, no matter the style.” She told her, continuing to instruct her on moves of attacking though her own attention span was growing thin as she heard the fighting to her side grow more intense.

She paused and looked over at Xena and Faith, watching the two a moment, seeing Xena step up her skills a bit. She smiled a bit; always loving to watch her warrior in action, even if all the two were really doing was showing off egos. She let her gaze drift to Toph, watching as she tried to mimic the moves the warrior and slayer did in their fight. She smirked, turning her attention back to Katara, focusing her attention back on the training that was supposed to be taking place.

She halted her movements when Xena questioned Katara about the chakram, her green eyes focusing on the yin-yang shaped object, remembering the first and only time she had threw it. She knew the Chakram was Xena’s favorite weapon. Lowering her staff, she moved to stand off to the side, letting the warrior demonstrate the weapon.
