Day Eleven
Who: Legolas and Aragorn
What: Legolas seeks out his friend to see how he's doing, or perhaps to seek comfort after a night of disturbing thoughts (around Dahak's arrival)
When: Day 11, early morning
Where: Aragorn's room
Rating: PG at most
Status: Complete

He'd had a good time the previous day, greeting the archer Susan and arranging an archery contest for when the weather was better, as well as the fun at the party. Michiru was quite the dancer, and he had decided he was going to track her down later and take her up on her offer of teaching each other various dances. It was a surprise to him, in a way, that he would be willing to teach anything elven to a human, but then, things were changing. As the only elf here on Mirage that he knew of, it was pretty much impossible for him to isolate himself among his people.

Anyway, the way he'd seen the short-lived race had changed, and had in fact been starting to change even before he'd come to this strange place. It had started back at the Council of Elrond, when he'd met two humans who would gradually, over time, change his view of the race of Men. As he'd gone into the dreamlike reverie which took the place of sleep in his people, he thought back to that time, to the brave sacrifice of Boromir, son of the Steward of Gondor. Even more than that, though, the elf had been impressed by the human Ranger who had been destined to lead the people of Gondor.

He'd been at the party until quite late, but he didn't need much rest. He'd had a night full of strange unease, like something was coming, but he didn't know what. It left him feeling out of sorts, and more than a little anxious, though it wasn't clear just what he was exactly worried about, not even to him. When he rose, it was hard to tell what time it was through the wind and rain, but it felt like it was a little lighter, perhaps just after dawn. Quickly, he dressed and readied himself to go out. What he was going to do, he wasn't sure. He was restless, though, and he'd think of something.

He paused outside the door that he knew lead to his friend, and thought for a short time. It was still early, perhaps Aragorn was sleeping. On second thought, though, he'd rarely seen the human sleep past dawn. So he took his chances and rapped softly on the door, knowing that if the human was sleeping, he probably wouldn't hear it, anyway. Then, he waited, to see if his call was answered. As he waited, he thought, trying to figure out just why he was feeling so strange this morning.

Aragorn himself had not slept. He had been restless. Even after getting out yesterday and meeting another person that had been brought here, Aragorn felt out of sorts. Of course he blamed it on being away from his home, the memories of those fallen and the reminder of it as well as the odd feelings he had been having toward his friend.

But there was something else unsettling the Ranger and he wasn't sure what it was. When he had returned to his room and changed from the wet clothing, Aragorn had sat by a fire this time imaging his room was actually outdoors, longing for the forest and nature though it was artificial. And he had stayed up all night. He never got much sleep and this night was no different.

His eyes kept going to the wall separating him and his friend, his thoughts on Legolas all night. But eventually he moved his thoughts to other things, things that made him confused and just as sad. As morning approached and the storm continued to rage outside, the feeling deep inside of Aragorn was getting worse.

SO to some shock and surprise when the knock came upon his door though deep inside he knew who it was, he jumped. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, knowing with no doubt that it was Legolas, Aragorn rushed to open the door. His eyes went wide and for some reason eh could tell that Legolas was just as unsettled as him.

"Come in my friend. I am not shocked you're already about." Aragorn smiled at his friend as he moved aside though it hardly met his eyes.

Dark eyes scanned his friend as he opened the door, and he couldn't help but admit to himself that he was relieved that the Ranger had opened his door. For once, the elf wasn't smiling, though he was glad Aragorn had responded. Things were just weighing too heavily on his mind.

He noticed right away that something was going on with his friend, and in a way, it made him feel not as alone. Not that he wanted Aragorn to be unhappy, not at all, but he'd been sure he was the only one feeling as he did. He never thought too much before thinking, and like always, he blurted out before he really thought things through.

"You feel it too, my friend? This shadow in the back of your mind, some threat coming?"

With this cryptic comment, which he hoped Aragorn would understand, he entered the room. It suited his friend perfectly, but he didn't have time to do much more than look around at the wood furniture before he turned his full attention back to the man, rather than the room. He did notice, it was nearly an exactly copy of the typical house in Elronds city of Rivendell. He smiled softly, but the expression was soon gone.

"I am sorry to bother you so early, my friend, but... I felt like I must see you."

The room was about comfort and about easing the tension and bad feelings that were going through Aragorn and now apparently through Legolas as well. It was about making him feel at home yet it did nothing to soothe him and by the look upon his friend's face, Legolas was truly just as unsettled as he was and this was not a good thing.

"Come on my friend. Let's sit and talk." Aragorn said with a slightly almost defeated tone. The Elf had spoken without thinking and had spoken what was on both of their minds. He kept telling himself that it was everything that had been in his mind before now but, he was sure with Legolas being able to feel it too, he was quite wrong.

"I feel something.. something unsettling, something dangerous something beyond my comprehension." Aragorn spoke as he sat on a near by chair made of wood and sighed as he studied his friend, intently.

"It's quite alright. I am glad you are here. I was going to seek you out in you hadn't me. Tell me, Legolas, what is it you feel?" Legolas was valuable and his instincts and feelings were always too be trusted and right now, Aragorn needed truth and he needed to know he was not alone.

Very rarely did the elf let his good cheer and mischeivious nature slip, but he was truly uneasy and knew that Aragorn would understand, that the Ranger wouldn't judge him for being serious for a moment. Some would laugh and tease him, but he knew he could count on his friend not to do that right now.

He wandered over to the bed, which was just like the one he'd rested in on the numerous times he'd guested at Rivendell, and settled himself down. He pulled his legs up onto the bed and sat cross-legged, somehow managing to be graceful despite everything that was going on in his head. The really strange thing was, despite everything, he found himself eager to look at the other man, to study the planes of his face. He should be much to distracted for such silliness...

"It kept me from my rest last night, and I had a strange feeling in my stomach. Nothing clear, though, so I do not even know what this is... only that it is bad. What of you, my friend? Have you anything to add to this?"

He glanced up, and his dark eyes met the startlingly blue ones of the Ranger. He waited to see if the human would join him here, or if he would remain as he was, standing close by. Either way, it was just good to be around him.

There was something to be sad about taking comfort where you know it would come. And it was often when Aragorn was experiencing unsettledness or displeasure or anything quite odd or what not he would go to Legolas. Despite the Elf's sometimes childlike manner and always happy manner, Legolas had another side of him that unfortunately, Aragorn got to see plenty of in the last several months with all that had went on.

Standing, Aragorn took a deep breath and went to sit beside of Legolas on the bed, close but not too close. He wanted to offer comfort but after the odd feelings that were going through him he didn't trust himself to do more than just sit by Legolas at this point.

Despite all the turmoil he was feeling inside, he was glad Legolas was here. Glad to have him close, to know he was safe that he had him under his watchful eye.

"Nothing more than you, I am afraid dear friend. Nothing more than a feeling. Nothing more than the sense of danger and despair almost." He paused, pursing his lips as he tilted his head to look at Legolas. Whatever was going on, Legolas was feeling it and stronger than he was. Perhaps his own feelings were amplified by the inner turmoil he was already feeling.

The elf was actually frowning as he turned to look at his friend so that they were face to face on the bed. He didn't shift closer, though he would admit to himself at least that he wanted to. He stayed where he was, though, and his strong, slender fingers pulled anxiously at the bedclothes. He was the epitome of tense watchfulness, nothing like his playful and vivacious self that he normally was.

"I see... but the fact remains that you do feel it. It is no mere figment of my imagination, this shadow in the back of my mind..."

He sighed, his dark eyes worried and concerned as he looked at his friend, once more catching and holding his gaze. After a long moment, he made an effort to shake off the feelings he was getting, and attempted a bright smile. Most people, it would likely fool, but he wasn't sure about the perceptive Ranger. Still, the human hadn't known him for so long. Perhaps it would pass by his notice.

"Well, enough of such dark topics. What shall we do today? The Planet has not decided to be polite and make the storm vanish, so I fear we are trapped and forced to think only of indoor activities."

Aragorn truly wished that he could make the feelings go away. The haunting look within Legolas' eyes was not something he could honestly bare to take. He reached out, placing a warm hand on the Elf's shoulder.

"I do feel it too, my friend. We just need to be careful and mindful." Raising a brow at Legolas as he changed and tried to be his normal self. He squeezed the Elf's shoulder, letting him know that Aragorn knew. He knew it still bothered him as it was within his eyes but he would let it go. Perhaps it was better to let them both try to forget what they were feeling for the moment.

"Sadly with the weather there is not much we can do, I suppose. Then again I don't know much about this place. So I can leave the plans for today within your hands, my friend." Aragorn smiled a small smile at his friend. His own eyes still carrying the weight of the bad feelings and whatnot in them. But he wouldn't waste the day, brooding and waiting. Perhaps it was better to look around as much as they could.

He did smile then, but it was slightly sad. He raised his hand and rested it on top of Aragorn's, gazing into his overly perceptive friends eyes.

"You always were a bit too good at reading me..." It was a soft verbal acknowledgement of what the human had been saying without words, and predictably, he followed it up with a joke, and a laugh. "For a human, of course."

The blond elf nodded, accepting his responsibilities as planner of the days activities. Of course, the human still had his hand on Legolas' shoulder, and Legolas was gently playing with those fingers, and he had some ideas for ways to pass the time. But he kept them to himself, other than a quick, easily missed glance at the Ranger's body, concealed by his clothing but still beautiful. He looked away and spoke sternly to himself inside his head before trusting himself to talk.

"How much of the buildings have you see? Perhaps a tour would pass some time... tonight, I have a planned meeting with a girl. Her hair is the color of the sea. Very interesting. We will teach each other how to dance."

Argorn felt slim fingers moving over his own calloused once yet he did nothing to move them away from Legolas. From the touch. It wasn't offending nor did it do what it truly should have. In fact the small touch was doing things it most certainly should not be. Yet he still didn't pull away. His own tilted slightly, moving along Legolas' before returning to rest flat on his shoulder.

"Of course. Pity that a human can read an Elf far too well. What a shame it must be." Aragorn smiled, trying hard not to laugh at this. It was always a running joke that neither got offended by. It was the way it was and it was far worse between the Elf and Dwarf.

He was oblivious to the Elf looking at him though he did have his own ideas about what he would rather do. And leaving the room didn't quite fit in to those plans. He chided himself inwardly and nodded.

"I haven't seen much just a game room. Perhaps before your meeting tonight with the girl with the hair the color of the sea, we can explore a little more on the inside. You can show me what you know and we can discover together what you don't." He had to admit, Legolas meeting up with another and dancing didn't set right, it did something within him but he ignored it.

"Going to share your dances with another and a human at that? My Legolas you are certainly slipping." He winked at his friend, feeling a little more playful than before though the darkness was still there.

The touch was lingering far too long on both sides, so the elf dropped his hand and moved gently away so that Aragorn's hand fell free. He stood and started moving restlessly around the room. Part of it was just that he wanted to go outside. No elf is fully happy without nature. Another part was the odd feeling he was getting, the darkness arriving. But most of it, he realized, was feeling Aragorn's fingers moving against his.

"Well, we all must have our weaknesses... apparently you are mine."

It was supposed to be light-hearted, and it did sound that way, but deep down, Legolas realized just how true it was. He stopped pacing for a second, looked at the Ranger with eyes filled with doubt, and then shook his head just a slight bit. He needed to get whatever he was feeling under control.

"Very well... I shall guide you through this strange place, help you get your bearings. And together, we can learn anything new. This is the plan we shall follow."

He stopped and mock-glared at the human before stomping over to him and swatting him on the shoulder, but not hard. Playful, not actually annoyed.

"Perhaps you would prefer to take her place? You would be more than welcome... and you already know the elven dances I am to teach her. She is going to teach me to... waltz... whatever that is."

When the Elf moved, Aragorn fought back the sadness that swept through him at loosing contact. But it was better because the more he was with Legolas, the more he felt so confused and yet not. It just felt right and certainly touching him in the manner he had, felt more right than it should have.

At hearing those words, Aragorn turned away and nodded, hiding his eyes and hoping his voice sounded normal for him. "As perhaps you are mine, my friend." Again it was meant to be lighthearted, a jest.. but it didn't sound that way to his ears nor did it feel that way to his heart. He simply nodded at the plan that had been made.

When he felt the slap on his shoulder, Aragorn turned around, his dark eyes searching out, finding and holding the lighter ones of the Elf, and Aragorn had to swallow down the sudden urge to reach out, grab Legolas and pull him close to him. Pull him into his arms.He knew it was all joking and in fun and games, but there was something there.. and it was dangerous.

"Oh no. I know the dances and they were hard enough for me to learn. It should be fun expecting her to learn them as well. And the waltz? Not quite sure what that is my friend. But shall we get on to the exploring?"

He didn't want to suddenly. He wanted to stay here and though he spoke, Aragorn made no move to move toward the door nor to stop looking at Legolas.

He looked sharply at the human Ranger, but then shook his head once more. He was hearing things. Although, there had been the strange comments they had shared the other day, but that had just been playing in a new way, surely. Just because they were so relieved to see each other again.

"Well, thank you for telling me. Now, I can think of things to use against you. A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing in my hands..."

Though his tone was joking, his eyes were serious as he dropped down to his knees on to floor, and gazed into his friends eyes from this new position. He rested his hand lightly on Aragorn's knee as he looked up at him.

"You are quite good at them, surprisingly. And she seemed very agile, I wonder if she can learn them. Many humans could not handle them... but you always did manage to pull them off, despite your obvious limitations."

He looked startled for a moment, having forgotten that they were supposed to be exploring, and having lost himself in the human's eyes somewhere along the line. He tried to look away, but found it difficult.

"Yes... of course... we should go."

Aragorn shook slightly as Legolas dropped to his knees and touched one of his own. This was not something he had been expecting so any comments about the weakness thing were pushed out of his mind as he concentrated on this. His eyes never once left Legolas' the entire time.

"Yes well I had a good teacher..." Aragorn responded though something about his words sounded as if they had wounded him. And perhaps in a way they had.He was no longer concentrating on their conversation and this was not a good idea.

He wanted to help the Elf up but touching him right now would prove to be something of a disaster and right now.. Aragorn was not sure he should. Thankfully Legolas stood on his own and Aragorn quickly turned away and forced himself to the door.

"Let us go explore, Legolas.." His words sounded empty and forced but he had to push himself to the door and opened it, stepping out and waiting for Legolas.

He watched, a slightly sad look in his expressive dark eyes, as the human made his way to the door. He sighed, and then forced a smile to his lips. He hoped it was convincing.

The truth was, he didn't know what was going on. What these feelings were that kept coming up between him and his friend. Such odd conversations, such strange emotions. He didn't really know how to deal with it. Aragorn was his friend, nothing else. He was engaged. And human.

With another shake of his blond head, the elf headed over to the door, following the Ranger. He took one more look at the room, a perfect copy of a room one could find in Rivendell, and then stepped out. The door shut behind him and Aragorn firmly.
