Jigen arriving on Day Nine
Who: Jigen & OTA => Tonks
When: Day Nine, afternoon
What: A dangerous meeting in New York, and then suddenly being thrown into the middle of a hurricane storm somewhere entirely else and being dragged in to shelter.
Where: A jazz club in New York, then by the River and finally at the bar indoors.
Rating: PG-13 for violence and language.
Status: Completed.

The scarred man in a suit sat down in the table uninvited, with a twisted smirk on his face as he looked down upon the asian man in whose table he joined. Three of his thugs surrounded them to emphasize the threat and to ensure that everything went according to plan.

The man who had first been spending a peaceful evening alone in the table at the jazz club did not flinch, blink or even look up from under his black fedora hat. He lounged on the chair in his black suit, a cigarette between his lips and a half-empty scotch glass beside him on the table.

"Jigen Daisuke," the scarred man began sounding amused. "You're a hard man to get a hold of."

Jigen snorted - smoke flowed out of his nostrils - and slowly turned to look at his company.

"What do you want, Walker?" he asked without taking the cigarette away from his lips. His tone was gruff and his voice was very low.

"The boss wants to meet ya," Walked answered. "You went poking about in his territory, but I'm sure you can... get to an agreement about it."

"You can tell him that I don't care about his territory," Jigen answered and leaned back again. He inhaled so that the cigarettes tip burned brighter. Knowing what was coming, he already took it between his fingers and dumped it on the ashtray.

"I'm sad that you're so ignorant, you see, the boss is not happy. Not happy at all about what you did," the scarred man continued. "But he would let this slide, if you, say, handed over what you took from the Countess."

Jigen let out a dry chuckle. "You were after them as well, weren't you? Well too bad." He raised the scotch glass to his lips so that the melting ice cubes clinked inside it, and emptied it with one swallow.

"Too bad? That's bad for you, Jigen. And bad for your friends," Walker warned. His smirk was suddenly gone and he motioned at the three thugs around them.

As two of them took a step closer to grab Jigen, the bearded asian swung up from his chair with surprising dexterity so that the chair fell down behind him. His elbow hit the thug on his right in the neck making a cracking sound, and before they knew it, he slipped away from the table ducking under the arms of the man on his left.

Walker stood up and reached for his gun. "Jigen! Don't make this any more difficult!"

Two of the thugs rushed after Jigen who dashed to the door holding his hat on his head with one hand. He turned at the door just as Walker pulled out his pistol, and yelled at the bystanders, "Out of the way!" as he pulled his heavy revolver from under his jacket. It took less than a blink of an eye for him to raise the gun and aim.

Two ear-searingly loud bangs echoed in the club making the women scream and everyone else throw themselves down on the floor. The band stopped playing and stared at the scarred man holding his bleeding hand that had just a moment earlier held his pistol. He had managed to shoot his gun as well, but Jigen's shot had hit his hand at the very same moment sending his bullet to the bar, where there was now a very pale bartender on the floor whimpering and three broken bottles leaking alcohol all over him.

"You're gonna regret this! AFTER HIM!" Walker screamed as red blood from the wound on his palm flew through his fingers.

Jigen grinned, raised his hat to the terrified bystander lady nearby as a humorous goodbye, and pushed the door open behind him dashing into the chilly night of New York with the three thugs right behind him.

*

Except... as soon as he turned to face the street and run to his car, his hat flew off his head and he was washed over by a wave.

After a while of trying to stand up and breath, Jigen had registered four things. One - it was still daylight, but he had been sure that the time was over 11PM. Two - it was windy. Windy was actually an understatement, it was a storm. Three - he was suddenly by a lake or a river since the very fast strong wind gusts kept spitting bucketfulls of water on him. Four - either New York's gone bye-bye, or he himself has gone off to la-la land without a warning. He had turned and then he had been not only somewhere else, but also in the middle of a hurricane storm.

Jigen could not really see around him, but he figured it would be good to get further away from the water. He sauntered forwards fighting to stay on his feet in the storm, not really having a clue of where he was heading.

One look outside when she'd woken up in the morning had been more than enough to tell her today wasn't a day to explore. Yesterday, after her strange behavior of two days ago, she'd spent hiding in her room, not daring to come out lest she be overcome by whatever had affected her, made her fall in love with the old Wizard Elminster. It had been a strange experience to say the least.

But she was hungry, and she was bored. There was only so many times she could rearrange her room to her liking before even that got dull. Sighing, she walked away from the window and decided a quick shower was in order. Then, she would have to brave the storm outside for awhile, since she was starving. Quickly, she showered and dressed, changed her hair to her favorite bright pink color, and headed out. On her way to the restaurant, she passed through the foyer and saw a key blinking there.

"Merlin... not today!"

She was too kind, though, not to attempt to rescue the poor new arrival. Arriving here was bad enough. Arriving in a storm? Much, much worse. She sighed, hoped it wasn't too cold out, and pocketed the key before throwing open the door and heading out into the storm. The first gust of wind nearly knocked her off her feet. She hoped whoever this new person was, they weren't too far out.

Someone heard her unspoken wish, and it wasn't too far before she found herself by the river. Ahead, someone struggled in the wind. This must be who she was looking for. Fighting the wind that seemed to want to dump her right into the river, she made her way closer, waving to get his attention.

"Hey! Over here!"

She didn't know if he could hear her over the wind. She could barely even hear herself. But it was worth a try.

Jigen struggled forward in the wind, shielding his face and eyes with his arms raised in front of him. He barely made out another figure in the storm ahead of him, and heard her call out to him. He was not exactly sure if whoever was there was a woman, but the voice sounded like it as far as he could tell.

The dark silhouette in the storm came closer to Tonks and soon he was close enough for her to make out a black-haired and bearded man in a black suit. With one hand sheltering his eyes he reached behind his back under his jacket to grab the handle of his revolver. He did not feel exactly trusting of the first person he met after the strange transition he just went through.

Jigen did not pull his gun out, though, but peered at the woman with water flowing over his eyes from his wet hair.

"Where the fuck am I?!" he bellowed over the storm at her, vocalizing the main question in his mind.

It was hard for her to make out his words, but she thought she got them. She did a quick once over, decided he was not someone she would want to have annoyed at her, and noted that he held a hand behind his back. Her own hand slipped behind her back in response, and she grasped her wand. She couldn't, and wouldn't, kill him, but she would protect herself.

"It's too loud to go into here, don't you think? Follow me... and try not to attack me? I'm not your enemy."

But it would be much easier to explain when the wind wasn't stealing away half of the words before they ever made it to the other person's ears. She had to explain what was going on, where he was, and give him the key. It had been a few days since she'd greeted someone. The feelings it gave here, though, were still the same. She was sad that another person had been stolen from their home, and nervous about how they would react.

Hoping he would follow, rather than be left alone in the storm, the pink-haired Auror turned around and started making her way towards the main building. The wind pulled determinedly at her hair, her clothing, and she pulled out her wand and held it firmly, just in case. If he attacked, or if she simply was knocked off her feet by the wind, she wanted to have her wand ready.

The man only grunted in return as if yielding into the situation. There was the possibility that Walker's thugs had knocked him out at the door and he was hallucinating, but Jigen had seen enough supernatural things in his life that he decided to follow the woman but stay alert. Staying calm and getting more information never hurt anyone, especially in the middle of a hurricane.

He let go of his gun feeling rather confident in his quick draw against the... stick? Knife? What ever the woman seemed to be holding in case it came to it. Without another word the dark man staggered in the wind careful not to lose sight of the woman, until after what seemed to him as an eternity of time they reached a building of some sort. He made out other structures around them but because of the storm he could not see exactly what was there and where he was.

The winds were strong enough that even being in the shadow of the building didn't help all that much. She forced the door open and staggered inside, coughing up some sand that had blown into her mouth. She ran her fingers through her hair, attempting to straighten it out but gave it up as a lost cause and simply changed it so that it was much shorter, and not as messy. It still hand sand in it, but she would deal with that later.

Turning to face him as he followed her inside, she kept her wand by her side and held it ready, but not pointed at him. She didn't assume he was going to attack, but scared people could sometimes do things that they wouldn't normally do.

"I bet you have some questions... but I think I should start with this. I didn't bring you here, so if you try to hurt me, it won't do you any good. I'm Tonks. Who are you?"

He was relieved to get indoors out of the wind, but his hair was damp and his clothes wet thanks to appearing right at the flooding river bank. Jigen did not waste time to looking good though - as soon as he had wiped his face quickly he glanced around him to see where he was and to mark possible threats and escape routes.

With a grim expression his asian eyes targeted young woman. He was openly suspicious about her and everything about the place, and he looked her over from head to toes before he hesitantly answered.

"Jigen." It was like one grunt - his voice was very low, and he did not exactly seem like the most talkative of men. "If you're not responsible, then who is?"

Well, he definately wasn't very talkative. She ran her fingers through her now-short hair, trying to remove the sand. There were good things and bad things about doing this with someone who didn't talk much. One the one hand, it was hard to know if he understood what she was saying, because he barely responded. On the other, of course, it gave her more time to explain without questions.

"Right, then. Jigen."

She eyed him more openly this time, taking in the details that she hadn't been able to see earlier. He definately appeared to know how to handle himself, just as she'd thought before.

"You've been kidnapped, I'm afraid. By a lonely planet. It sounds stupid, I know, but... here."

She reached into her pocket and took his key out, tossing it to him, sure that he would be able to catch it quite easily. He just had that sort of look about him. As she tossed, she kept speaking.

"That's your room key. If you follow me, there's a plaque you should read..."

The man barely raised his eyebrows as she tossed the key at him, and indeed, his hand reached to snag it from the air easily as if working on its own. He opened his palm and looked at the key on his hand, then glanced up at the woman again. After her explanation his expression had changed from 'are you to blame?' kind of suspicious to the 'are you insane?' kind. Seeing nothing threatning about her or the place - other than the horrible weather - he nodded solemnly and again without a word followed her.

As he walked with her - intrestingly enough always after her and never letting her fall behind him - he finally opened his mouth. "A planet? Yes. It does sound stupid, unless there's yet another lunatic with delusions of grandeur around insisting on being referred to with names like that."

Now that he had talked a bit more it was apparent that he spoke with a fluent, as if native, American accent. He understood every word the young woman said alright, but it was another thing if he believed her.

It did make her a little nervous to have him behind her. She didn't usually let those she wasn't sure of do that. Especially someone who had easily caught the key. Looked like she'd been right about him, but being an Auror, she had to be a good judge of who was a threat and who wasn't. He was a threat... but she was also pretty sure he thought she was crazy. Most people tended to underestimate her, anyway, which was alright with her.

She tripped several times as she walked down the hallway towards the room with the plaque. She'd found, in her time greeting the newcomers, that often nothing could be said before that plaque had been read, and believed.

It was odd, though. He looked like he was Asian, but spoke like an American. Still, that wasn't so strange, not to her. She was from Britian, but had people of many races at school with her, as well as at work. Race was never the issue for the wizarding world that it was for the muggles. Blood status was much more important.

Behind her back when she could not see it, the man's lips curved to an amused smile as she tripped. Not exactly because seeing someone trip over would be particularly funny, but because she seemed cute and earnest, but still tough and determined. He appreciated that, but not enough to let his guard down. He was not that stupid in a strange place like this.

While she stumbled, he walked with steady strides but definitely not like a soldier. He put his hands in his pockets and he hunched his back slightly raising his shoulders up as if enclosing into himself, peering at the corridors from under his brow.

After a few turns they arrived in the room that had the greeting plague attached in the middle of one of the walls. Jigen followed her silently in front of it, and stopped to read it.

Welcome to Mirage.
This is your new home.
Your every need will be fulfilled.
You will have a place to live.
You will have food and clothing.
You will have entertainment.
You will have company.
You will not be able to leave.
You will not kill. Ever.
If you have questions, ask my assistants.
Love,
The Planet

Jigen furrowed his brow. Then he opened his mouth, and then he closed it again. Then he finally snorted and shook his head. "Is this a joke? One of Lupin's stupid tricks? Where is that bastard?"

The pink-haired witch stood by a wall, leaning against it and playing idly with her wand. If he decided to get violent upon learning he was trapped, she wanted to be able to defend herself. Not that she assumed he would, but it was always better to be safe. She watched as he read the plaque.

"No, it's not a joke, I'm afraid. I've been here for more than a week, and I really need to go home. We were all taken, you see, because this planet is lonely. Or that's what we figure. My friend Marcus and I... we're trying to figure out how to get off this planet."

She looked at him carefully, trying to see if he was going to do anything that she would need to stop him from doing. Her eyes, while wary, were sympathetic at the same time. This was always the worst part of greeting a new arrival. It was so sad, and reminded her of her own feelings when she had realized she was a prisoner.

The man simply stood there brooding silently for a while. Then he slowly reached inside his jacket to his breast pocket - a move that might have seemed suspicious to a wary bystander - but eventually pulled out a crumpled carton of cigarettes and a silver Zippo lighter. He shook out one cigarette, placed it between his lips and lit it. He did not care if smoking was inhibited indoors - he did not look around for signs or ask for permissions. Then he put the carton adn the lighter back to his pocket and inhaled deeply, looking like a cigarette was exactly what he had needed.

"Who's in charge around here? How many people are here and what sort of a place is this, exactly?" if he did not look like a soldier, he sure sounded like one. He did not get angry or scared - his first reaction was to know more, especially of numbers and what tactical sites there were.

When his hand went into his pocket, the wand was out, pointed at him, and any number of offensive spells crowded into her mind. But she wasn't one to jump to conclusions, so she just watched and was relieved when he simply pulled out a cigarette and lit it. She relaxed, a little, and slowly approached him.

"No one, really... I mean, the planet, I guess. It has these rock men things that do what it wants, but there's no person or anything..." She looked at him, keeping her distance to some extent, but now close enough that they didn't have to speak louder to be heard.

"There's a lot of people here, and all in the same sitaution we are. Taken from their homes, from their lives, separated from people they cared about. As for what sort of place this is, that's rather hard to... you wouldn't have noticed, because of this storm, but we are in a sort of paradise. You'll see, once the storm dies down. This planet, it wants us to be happy."

She snorted at the idea, and then continued on talking.

"Of course, the only thing that would make me happy is getting out of here and going home to help my friends, but I suppose it doesn't much care about that."

Jigen blew out smoke from his lungs but he did not pick the cigarette from his lips, not even when he spoke. He stood there with his hands in his pockets looking at the sign, and then at the woman.

"If there's a way in, there has to be a way out," he muttered and wrinkled his nose, snorting again but this time angrily. "I'm nobody's plaything. Count me in the group that tries to get out."

He took his hand out of his pocket and turned the key around in his fingers. "What's this for?"

Her eyes brightened up when he said that. In that one short sentence, he'd changed himself from potential threat to potential ally. Before all the nonsense with the pheremones and falling in love and everything, she'd spent pretty much every day trying to think of a way to escape.

"I completely agree... there has to be a way off from here. I'm sure we can find it, if we all just work together and try."

She was distracted by his question, and turned her gaze to the key he held in his hand. She took a step closer and peered down at the numbers engraved into the metal.

"It's your key... the planet has given us all a room, isn't that nice? We're prisoners, of course, but at least we have our own rooms... anyways, your room is in the A building, first floor, room number 135. I can show you, if you want?"

The man looked out the window - the trees were bent over looking like they were about to snap in half, and the wind carried all sorts of small rubble and chattel with it. Then he ran his hand through his wet hair and shrugged.

"It's probably best to wait before going outside again. Looks like I'm in no hurry out of here anyway," he muttered, and looked down at himself. His clothes were wet and his suit was marred with dirt stains, but he was used to being worn and in places he had not expected to be after a lifetime of practically living on the road.

It showed as well - someone else might have freaked out and panicked, but he knew to wait and see the clear sky after the storm and observe the scene unfold in front of his eyes, while taking care of himself and staying alert and calm. He pocketed the key again and took a few slow steps toward the window - the first time turning his back on Tonks - to look outside as he took the cigarette from his lips and breathed blue smoke out. It was hard to tell if he was already ignoring the woman, or if he was simply contemplating the situation in his characteristic silent manner, never hurrying, never panicking.

She didn't know what to make of him. Had she been dismissed? Was she supposed to let him go and find his own room? But maybe he was just thinking, and would have more questions. If he was ignoring her, she should leave. If he was thinking, she should stay. It was confusing.

In the end, though, she didn't have much else to do, so she went over to the pedestal that the plaque was set on and jumped up onto it, perching there as she looked at the back of the man who was gazing out the window. At least, she could reply to the last thing he had said.

"Nope, today is an inside day... it's the first ugly day since I've been here."

She kicked her feet idly, managed to almost fall off the pedestal, and only barely recovered in time. But none of this fazed her, really. She was used to stuff like that. What she wasn't used to was not being sure what to do.

He brought the cigarette back to his lips, holding it between his thumb and forefinger. He held is breath for a while before exhaling the smoke out once more, and looked over his shoulder at the girl. She looked bored, but she looked like she knew the place. Jigen decided to give her something to do - answer some questions.

"Tonks, was it?" Jigen addressed her again and turned to face her. "What kind of a place is this? How big is it - you said it's a planet? How far have you tried going, and what has stopped you from leaving? Are these guards? Traps? Other security? And how many have appeared here?" he spoke calmly, but setting each question sharply and separately. His dark brow was constantly furrowed - the more he thought about the situation, the more it bothered him.

Oh, good. At least he was talking. That was something. Answering questions might not be the most exciting thing ever, but it was at least something to do, and something that she could handle.

"Tonks, yeah, that's right." She pulled her legs up onto the pedestal so that she was sitting cross-legged, facing him. "It's really small... Marcus and I managed to explore the whole thing in about a week. Before it changed, I mean. The environment stopped us from leaving. The desert, or the mountains... it was nothing more specific than that. No guards, but I think those rock things could be right nasty given the chance." She paused, furrowed her brow as she tried to count how many people she'd seen. Eventually, she gave up. "I don't know how many... there's just a lot, that's all."

She slid off her seat and landed on her feet, stumbling more than a little upon landing, but managing to keep herself from falling right onto her backside.

"You'll see all this for yourself, you know, if you just look..."

Jigen nodded biting the cigarette between his teeth and looked down with a grim expression.

"Hmh," he let out a low, thoughtful grunt, and brushed the black beard that followed his jawline with his fingers. "Not much to see with this weather. One more thing. Are the people behaving themselves? Any tensions or threats, anything I should be especially careful about?"

Tonks frowned slightly. Being a fairly observant person, she did see things. And it was odd, actually, how many people were not fighting, since there were people of all different places and with all different ideas there.

"I haven't seen anything like that, but that might just be cause people are being good. As you know, we can't kill here. Maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe, I just haven't seen the fights. There was a... weird thing that happened a few days ago, where everyone fell in love. Very embarassing. The planet has a sense of humor."

Tonks got a view to the strongest emotion on the man's face since his first words bellowed to her by the river. He seemed to jerk in surprise raising his eyebrows and pulling his head back. "Fell in love? Good thing I wasn't dragged here earlier, then," he huffed. He made a mental note to keep an extra careful eye on his own behavior, and the behaviour of others. The place was clearly unnatural and mysterious, and being vigilante would not hurt.

He brushed his long hair back from his face. He missed his hat, he felt nude and bare without it, almost as vulnerable as without is gun. The fedora was now gone with the wind and he doubted he would find it again, but he hoped the plaque did not exaggerate and he would eventually get a replacement.

"You say this is a paradise, huh? So is there a bar around here somewhere? I need a drink."

Oh, so something she said could have an effect on him. That was a good thing, she was starting to wonder if this man was quite as emotionless as the golems seemed to be. Of course, it didn't hurt that she pretty much entirely agreed with his assessment. She hadn't enjoyed having her emotions jerked around like that.

"Yeah, it's supposed to be... supposed to keep us from trying to escape, I expect. There's a restaurant, they'll bring you anything you need there."

Idly, she played with her wand as she walked to him. He seemed under control now, but it always felt better to have her wand in her hand just in case.

The man nodded again. The cigarette had almost burned to the filter but he kept it between his teeth like an accessory, letting it spread little clouds of smoke as he breathed and talked. Jigen nodded towards the doors and as they walked out of the room - him following her once again - he could not help but wonder. While he was studying his surroundings quite intently, he pondered the matter of the wooden stick the woman carried around.

He made a habit of not asking personal questions mostly because they attracted counter-questions, and he did not enjoy talking about himself. This time, though, he had to ask since the peculiar young woman had picked his interest.

"What's with the stick, anyway?" was his gruff question. It wasn't exactly a stick - it looked like it was carved to a shape, and she always held it from the thicker end as if it was the handle. How strange was that?

Alright, clearly he had accepted her offer to show him where the restaurant was. At least they were moving again. As they passed windows, she looked outside. It was disturbing, really, she'd never seen weather like it. It made one wonder if the building would remain strong enough to not be swept completely away.

His question had her smiling a little. It was good, in her opinion, that he was showing any sort of curiousity. It made him seem more human, somehow. And she was even getting used to how people didn't even know what a wand is.

"It's my wand, isn't it? I use it to do magic."

She already sensed that he would be skeptical about magic, since he was clearly a muggle, so she turned around, faced him, and spoke clearly.

"Avis!"

A flock of very pink birds flew out of her wand and into the air, twittering to themselves. Hopefully, that would make him believe her. With that settled, she turned to start walking through the hallways towards the restaurant.
