Jigen arriving on Day Nine
Who: Jigen & OTA => Tonks
When: Day Nine, afternoon
What: A dangerous meeting in New York, and then suddenly being thrown into the middle of a hurricane storm somewhere entirely else and being dragged in to shelter.
Where: A jazz club in New York, then by the River and finally at the bar indoors.
Rating: PG-13 for violence and language.
Status: Completed.

The scarred man in a suit sat down in the table uninvited, with a twisted smirk on his face as he looked down upon the asian man in whose table he joined. Three of his thugs surrounded them to emphasize the threat and to ensure that everything went according to plan.

The man who had first been spending a peaceful evening alone in the table at the jazz club did not flinch, blink or even look up from under his black fedora hat. He lounged on the chair in his black suit, a cigarette between his lips and a half-empty scotch glass beside him on the table.

"Jigen Daisuke," the scarred man began sounding amused. "You're a hard man to get a hold of."

Jigen snorted - smoke flowed out of his nostrils - and slowly turned to look at his company.

"What do you want, Walker?" he asked without taking the cigarette away from his lips. His tone was gruff and his voice was very low.

"The boss wants to meet ya," Walked answered. "You went poking about in his territory, but I'm sure you can... get to an agreement about it."

"You can tell him that I don't care about his territory," Jigen answered and leaned back again. He inhaled so that the cigarettes tip burned brighter. Knowing what was coming, he already took it between his fingers and dumped it on the ashtray.

"I'm sad that you're so ignorant, you see, the boss is not happy. Not happy at all about what you did," the scarred man continued. "But he would let this slide, if you, say, handed over what you took from the Countess."

Jigen let out a dry chuckle. "You were after them as well, weren't you? Well too bad." He raised the scotch glass to his lips so that the melting ice cubes clinked inside it, and emptied it with one swallow.

"Too bad? That's bad for you, Jigen. And bad for your friends," Walker warned. His smirk was suddenly gone and he motioned at the three thugs around them.

As two of them took a step closer to grab Jigen, the bearded asian swung up from his chair with surprising dexterity so that the chair fell down behind him. His elbow hit the thug on his right in the neck making a cracking sound, and before they knew it, he slipped away from the table ducking under the arms of the man on his left.

Walker stood up and reached for his gun. "Jigen! Don't make this any more difficult!"

Two of the thugs rushed after Jigen who dashed to the door holding his hat on his head with one hand. He turned at the door just as Walker pulled out his pistol, and yelled at the bystanders, "Out of the way!" as he pulled his heavy revolver from under his jacket. It took less than a blink of an eye for him to raise the gun and aim.

Two ear-searingly loud bangs echoed in the club making the women scream and everyone else throw themselves down on the floor. The band stopped playing and stared at the scarred man holding his bleeding hand that had just a moment earlier held his pistol. He had managed to shoot his gun as well, but Jigen's shot had hit his hand at the very same moment sending his bullet to the bar, where there was now a very pale bartender on the floor whimpering and three broken bottles leaking alcohol all over him.

"You're gonna regret this! AFTER HIM!" Walker screamed as red blood from the wound on his palm flew through his fingers.

Jigen grinned, raised his hat to the terrified bystander lady nearby as a humorous goodbye, and pushed the door open behind him dashing into the chilly night of New York with the three thugs right behind him.

*

Except... as soon as he turned to face the street and run to his car, his hat flew off his head and he was washed over by a wave.

After a while of trying to stand up and breath, Jigen had registered four things. One - it was still daylight, but he had been sure that the time was over 11PM. Two - it was windy. Windy was actually an understatement, it was a storm. Three - he was suddenly by a lake or a river since the very fast strong wind gusts kept spitting bucketfulls of water on him. Four - either New York's gone bye-bye, or he himself has gone off to la-la land without a warning. He had turned and then he had been not only somewhere else, but also in the middle of a hurricane storm.

Jigen could not really see around him, but he figured it would be good to get further away from the water. He sauntered forwards fighting to stay on his feet in the storm, not really having a clue of where he was heading.

One look outside when she'd woken up in the morning had been more than enough to tell her today wasn't a day to explore. Yesterday, after her strange behavior of two days ago, she'd spent hiding in her room, not daring to come out lest she be overcome by whatever had affected her, made her fall in love with the old Wizard Elminster. It had been a strange experience to say the least.

But she was hungry, and she was bored. There was only so many times she could rearrange her room to her liking before even that got dull. Sighing, she walked away from the window and decided a quick shower was in order. Then, she would have to brave the storm outside for awhile, since she was starving. Quickly, she showered and dressed, changed her hair to her favorite bright pink color, and headed out. On her way to the restaurant, she passed through the foyer and saw a key blinking there.

"Merlin... not today!"

She was too kind, though, not to attempt to rescue the poor new arrival. Arriving here was bad enough. Arriving in a storm? Much, much worse. She sighed, hoped it wasn't too cold out, and pocketed the key before throwing open the door and heading out into the storm. The first gust of wind nearly knocked her off her feet. She hoped whoever this new person was, they weren't too far out.

Someone heard her unspoken wish, and it wasn't too far before she found herself by the river. Ahead, someone struggled in the wind. This must be who she was looking for. Fighting the wind that seemed to want to dump her right into the river, she made her way closer, waving to get his attention.

"Hey! Over here!"

She didn't know if he could hear her over the wind. She could barely even hear herself. But it was worth a try.

Jigen struggled forward in the wind, shielding his face and eyes with his arms raised in front of him. He barely made out another figure in the storm ahead of him, and heard her call out to him. He was not exactly sure if whoever was there was a woman, but the voice sounded like it as far as he could tell.

The dark silhouette in the storm came closer to Tonks and soon he was close enough for her to make out a black-haired and bearded man in a black suit. With one hand sheltering his eyes he reached behind his back under his jacket to grab the handle of his revolver. He did not feel exactly trusting of the first person he met after the strange transition he just went through.

Jigen did not pull his gun out, though, but peered at the woman with water flowing over his eyes from his wet hair.

"Where the fuck am I?!" he bellowed over the storm at her, vocalizing the main question in his mind.

It was hard for her to make out his words, but she thought she got them. She did a quick once over, decided he was not someone she would want to have annoyed at her, and noted that he held a hand behind his back. Her own hand slipped behind her back in response, and she grasped her wand. She couldn't, and wouldn't, kill him, but she would protect herself.

"It's too loud to go into here, don't you think? Follow me... and try not to attack me? I'm not your enemy."

But it would be much easier to explain when the wind wasn't stealing away half of the words before they ever made it to the other person's ears. She had to explain what was going on, where he was, and give him the key. It had been a few days since she'd greeted someone. The feelings it gave here, though, were still the same. She was sad that another person had been stolen from their home, and nervous about how they would react.

Hoping he would follow, rather than be left alone in the storm, the pink-haired Auror turned around and started making her way towards the main building. The wind pulled determinedly at her hair, her clothing, and she pulled out her wand and held it firmly, just in case. If he attacked, or if she simply was knocked off her feet by the wind, she wanted to have her wand ready.

The man only grunted in return as if yielding into the situation. There was the possibility that Walker's thugs had knocked him out at the door and he was hallucinating, but Jigen had seen enough supernatural things in his life that he decided to follow the woman but stay alert. Staying calm and getting more information never hurt anyone, especially in the middle of a hurricane.

He let go of his gun feeling rather confident in his quick draw against the... stick? Knife? What ever the woman seemed to be holding in case it came to it. Without another word the dark man staggered in the wind careful not to lose sight of the woman, until after what seemed to him as an eternity of time they reached a building of some sort. He made out other structures around them but because of the storm he could not see exactly what was there and where he was.

"Come on, then... I really think you could use that drink you were talking about."

Maybe it was a ruse on his part, but he didn't seem to be ready to attack her anymore. So she took a risk, hoping that her ability to read people was working right now, or else she might find out first hand what happened if someone actually killed on this planet. Not that she would kill him, of course. It wasn't her style. But he might try to kill her. She hoped not, really.

"I think so... although universe is sort of a muggle term, but it suits as well as any. People from all different places. My friend, Marcus, wasn't even born on Earth."

She turned slowly back around, giving him a clear shot at her back, if he wanted it. But someone, she knew, had to show some trust first, and it looked like it was going to be her. She mused to herself as she started walking.

"I wonder if I shouldn't just show you the restaurant, but take you straight to the bar. You've had a nasty shock..."

Jigen straightened again and hang his hand holding the heavy weapon at his side, watching the young woman. As she turned her back at him, he couldn't help but smile. The girl's got guts, and attitude. He smirked and reached back under his jacket to stuff the gun back in the back of his pants.

He did not bother asking what a muggle was, nor where the hell this Marcus was from or what species he was if he was not even Earth-born. He had had a flood of information and had a lot to think about already, so he decided to leave the smaller tidbits for later consuming.

"Sounds like a plan," he agreed with a low tone and followed the woman, still smiling a bit.

Well, that was nice. He hadn't shot her in the back. Maybe he had too much honor, or maybe he didn't see her as a threat since she showed some small trust in him. Either way, it was alright with her. She didn't think that being shot in the back, even just with a muggle weapon, would be much fun.

"Right then... this place will give you anything you need. So the restuarant can make anything you order... though I think it might be just mush that they make into food, but it tastes good..." When that theory had been advanced to her, she'd been disgusted, and was still unsure about the whole thing. But it tasted good, so that was the main thing, she supposed "But really, anything you want to eat will be served to you here."

She stopped at the door to the restaurant and pointed in before turning 180 degrees and pointing towards another door.

"The kitchen. If you want something small, just a snack like fruit, you don't have to go to the restaurant. You can just come here and get it. Now, the bar..."

She set off again down the hallway, knowing that a drink might be just the thing for him right now.

He followed her with his hands in his pockets again, and he turned to look at where ever she was pointing at. He did not speak, just nodded curtly to motion he understood.

"I take it we don't need to pay for anything in here?" he only asked as they were walking towards the bar. At the same time he was debating the choice between cognac and scotch in his mind - but he was leaning towards scotch for a good wake up call in the middle of this insanity.

Some might have taken offense at his sarcasm, but she just grinned good naturedly. It was quite difficult to offend her.

"Guess that would make sense... now is this the one where I'm supposed to only hit the solid ones or the striped ones, not both?"

It was all sort of messed together in her head, so she figured that despite his sarcasm, which she hardly even honestly noticed, she should ask before they started playing and she broke some rules without even meaning to do so.

When he put out his hand, she stared at it, wondering if he wanted a handshake or something. But that didn't seem quite like him, and he waited with his hand out for so long that she finally got it. Smiling, she tossed the chalk over to him. Somehow, she was sure he would catch it easily.

Jigen raised his eyebrows looking intently at Tonks waiting for the chalk, and when he finally got it - catching it in his fist without an effort - he began chalking the tip of the stick. He glanced at her seeing that she obviously did not have the rules carved in the back of her head like he did, and decided to go through a curt but proper run through of the rules.

"The first one who pockets determines which balls we're supposed to hit. If you pocket a striped one first, then those are yours. If you pocket, it's still your turn. If you fail, it's mine. Only pocket the eight ball when the table has been cleared. If you make a foul, I get a ball-in-hand anywhere on the table," he paused to think as he fished his worn, black leather wallet out of the back pocket of his trousers. He got a coin - that turned out to be an Italian 2 euro coin - and set it on top of his thumbnail ready to flip it.

"Heads or tails?"

She nodded at him, appreciating the time he took to go through the rules. She dimly remembered everything that he had said, but it was really good to have a refresher. Still, his easy rattling off of the rules made her think she'd been right before, he was much better than her. She didn't really have a chance, but at least she'd have fun losing.

"Right, then." Her eyes widened when she saw the coin. It looked nothing like the money she was used to, and she wanted to examine it. Of course, she refrained from reaching out and just grabbing it. That was considered rude in her culture, and probably in most others, as well. Still, she stared at it like it was the most fascinating thing in the world. "Um... heads?"

He flipped the coin in the air, it turned around a couple of times before he caught it on the back of his left hand covering it with is right one to stop it from falling down. When he revealed it again, it was indeed showing heads.

"Heads it is. You make the break," he said nodding towards the table and the neatly arranged triangle of balls on urging her to start. He noticed her curious gaze, though, and flipped the coin casually to her letting her have a closer look. It was just 2 euros, after all, and he would not need money in a while anyway.

"Your Brits still have pounds in use, don't you," he said thinking that was why she had been so curious about the coin.

Tonks watched, learning just from seeing him play. He was really good, and she decided to try and emulate him as much as possible. First, though, she grabbed the chalk and rubbed it on the end of her stick before trying to look at the angles balls would take if she hit them. It was mostly guesswork. That sort of thing wasn't covered in Hogwarts curriculum.

Her first effort to try to get a ball to hit another and sent it into a pocket was a complete failure. She missed entirely, and almost sunk the eight ball. Undaunted, she nodded to her companion that it was his turn.

"Yeah, practice makes perfect... um, Marcus has been talking to people. One of them has a... some sort of spaceship? We're hoping he can get it up and running. Otherwise, we've just been looking all over the resort area, trying to figure out what's surrounding us. Getting knowledge for when we escape."

He just nodded as he moved closer to the table again.

"Knowledge is power, alright," he agreed, and bent over the table with the cue stick. He shot the cue ball at a solid colored ball that hit another one of his, and eventually both of the balls rolled into different pockets. He stood upright and inhaled for the last time of his cigarette.

"Spaceships..." he snorted incredulously but continued after a while. "That's good , but there's one thing you've missed," he said as he examined the table but glanced at the bar and the golem standing immobile behind the counter. "The planet. Or who ever has brought us here. I would try and get something - anything - out of the stone creatures," he revealed and leaned in over the table once again. This time he was trying to make a rather complex shoot, but failed at it by just an inch only sending balls accross the table but not pocketing any.

She tried for a graceful jump onto the edge of the table to sit there, but ended up missing and only barely catching herself before she fell to the floor. Sighing, she got up and shrugged.

"I always miss... oh well, can't win them all!"

She grinned at him, too used to her own clumsiness to really feel much shame or embarassment, and watched his shot. It was a good one. She wished she could get more than one ball in at a time. Still, as he'd said, practice makes perfect.

"Yeah, or something like that... I don't really get it, space travel is more of a Muggle thing. Oh, I tried talking to the golems. I don't think they talk. They just point to whatever you ask them about."

He dumped his cigarette on the ashtray on a table nearby. He leaned on his cue stick and answered on a low voice, "Everyone and everything has a weakness. It's just a matter of finding it."

It wasn't a pleasant comment to hear at all - his tone and expression suggested at things like violence and torture, even if he did not like those ideas himself. He dropped to sit down by the table and lifted his feet up on it lounging on the chair. "Well, Lucky, it's your turn. You're not gonna give up, are you"?

She, however, did smile at him, and nodded her thanks for his comment. It was interesting, being complimented by someone that didn't do it very often. Made it seem more sincere. Like when, occasionally, she managed to win a compliment from her mentor, Mad Eye Moody. It was so rare, that it meant a whole hell of a lot.

"Thanks... you're really good."

More carefully this time, Tonks climbed up onto the table and sat on the edge, managing to avoid falling off somehow as she again idly swung her feet. She'd meant the compliment, of course. He was amazing.

"I hope the next time we play, I'll be better, give you more of a run for your money."

Of course, that was assuming that they were going to play again. But, despite everything, she found that she liked him. Of course, she liked nearly everyone, so perhaps that wasn't so odd. She did want to see him again.

He glanced at Tonks beside him as he took a step forward gathering the cigarette pack and his lighter from the table.

"Might as well teach you a few tricks next time if I'm on a good mood," he mumbled with the burning cigarette between his lips. Then he walked to the chair where his jacket was, picked it up on his arm, and began walking leisurely towards the bar again without saying another word or even looking at Tonks. He did not do it on purpose to ignore her or to send her a 'gtfo' message - he simply was that sort of a man who minded his own business without getting into anybody else's.

At least he hadn't taken offense to her assumption they would be playing again. She had a hard time reading this man, and had no idea if he actually liked having her around, or just tolerated it. Either way, though, he couldn't hate it because he was willing to see her again.

"Yeah? That would be brilliant, thanks."

She wasn't sure if she should follow him or not. Was this his way of trying to get rid of her? Eventually, though, she slid off the pool table and wandered back to her chair.

"Another firewhiskey, please! Hey! Maybe it was the drink that made me better! I should get really drunk, shouldn't I, and then see how well I play!"

"And another scotch," Jigen told the barkeep. He raised his hand up to his forehead about to pull his hat lower to shade his eyes from the light above the counter, until he remembered again that he had indeed lost the fedora. Instead he ran his fingers through his hair again grunting to himself disappointed, feeling naked without the hat.

"That would be a sight," he muttered in answer to Tonks. "Though I think I'd rather observe that," he glanced at her quickly and continued sardonically, "from a distance. I appreciate my eyes so much that I don't want to risk them being poked out with cue sticks by hyper-active drunken girls."

She raised an eyebrow at his reaction. Honestly, she hadn't even thought before she'd cast the spell. The peanuts were over there, she wanted them here, she'd cast the spell. It was that simple. But he almost fell off his barstool when she did so, and she sighed softly. She was going to need to get used to Muggles and their odd reactions to magic.

When he asked her a question, she turned to look at him and smiled, nodding enthusiastically.

"Yeah, that's right. There's a bunch of buildings, actually, all sort of set around this main building. They're not far... although we will have to go through that bloody storm out there."

He looked out the window holding the cold scotch glass in his palms and after a while, he spoke with a low voice with his curt style.

"Hurricanes don't last very long. It'll be calm by nightfall again. Then again, it was nightfall in New York before I ended up here..." he turned to stare at this glass thinking that he probably should not even try to rationalize the place.

"I don't think time works the same here... and since it's all controlled by this planet thing, I don't think we should assume the weather would be logical, either."

She took a drink from her glass, shivering as the burning liquid went down her throat, and then set it carefully down on the bar again. She was getting, well, not drunk exactly, but a tiny bit tipsy. She really didn't drink all that often.

He only let out a low grunt as an answer. He shook out yet another cigarette from the pack, but he paused for a while as he realized it was his last one.

"Oh fuck it," he muttered under his breath. "Any chance of the Planet getting me smokes? Pall Mall Super Longs, if you don't mind," he said cynically, obviously not expecting to get any, or atleast his preferred ones. He turned his last one around in his fingers sighing before he tucked it between his teeth and lit it.
