Day Eight // The Best is Yet to Come
Who: Snake and OTA
What: David's Arrival
When: Sunset, Day Eight
Where: The Beach
Rating:
PG-13
Status: In Progress

David was enclosed in a heated abode and was wearing nothing more but pajama pants, but he had retrieved all of his cold weather gear he'd stashed away from the mission in Shadow Moses. He gently set his pen and notebook atop a nightstand next to the window and wiped a small spot of fog off the glass so he could see through it. A blizzard was raging outside, and his field of view extended no further than a meter or so. He grunted, getting a rise out of two of the eight Huskies already in slumber in his cabin.

"Try to hold it tonight, boys. You might get carried to California in this kind of weather."

One of the dogs whined in a seemingly understanding tone as Dave reached over to the light switch, sending the room into darkness. He rolled onto the bed and placed his hand behind his head, closing his eyes in an attempt to dream of better days.

?

What the hell? He thought for a moment, wiggling his fingers around and feeling sand in between them. His nostrils were quickly filled with the salty aroma of the ocean, and he could hear various seagulls squawking about his arrival. As he opened his eyes he was greeted by a stunning view of the open sea, the likes of which he hadn't experienced since Zanzibar Land. There's no way I fell asleep that fast. He sat up and peered around, in awe of the beauty of the scene and shocked by his sudden appearance in paradise. Rising to his feet, he wiped the sand off his pants and patting his hands together to let the excess sprinkle onto the ground. He could feel the slight burn the sand left as his wiped it from his lower back, signaling that this was not at all any kind of dream. The dry heat he'd felt from the de-humidifier and heating system in his cabin gradually became more and more humid. It was sunset here, and it was midnight in Alaska.

!

"Where the hell am I!?!" - he bellowed at the top of his lungs, jumping to his feet and scanning the shore for any sign of life.

Giselle was giddy. Upon waking that morning she rose to step onto her balcony and begin the serenade that had been her ritual since being brought here. She was delighted with the change of scenery, though she was confused at first. She passed it off as another strange whimsey of the Planet and began to sing. She sang a few songs, calling her animal friends to her for the morning chores.

After singing, she cleaned her room, bathed and dressed. She picked out a coral colored dress with brown trim and had her hair twisted and plaited and piled on top of her head with whisps hanging down here and there. She was pleased with how she looked and skipped out of her room to find breakfast.

She passed the rest of the day in quiet delight, spending some time by the massive outdoor pool shielded from the sun by a large pink parasol, putting together a crossword puzzle, and dining in the cafe. She said hello to Jun and the golems, giving them a cheery wave as she left. She found the library and skimmed the books, but decided that she wanted to go down to the beach.

The sun was setting and the dual moons were slowly brightening. She gasped softly as she stepped foot outside, taking off her delicate flats and walking barefoot through the sand to the shore. The sunset was so vibrant and beautiful, it made her want to sing again. She walked the length of the beach, watching the sun sink lower in the sky, humming to herself.

And out of nowhere, she saw a man appear on the beach. He wasn't happy about it either. She watched him jump up and scan the area and she raised a hand, wiggling her fingers at him. She skipped toward him and when she came closer, she spoke. "Why, hello! I'm Giselle. And you've just arrived, haven't you?" She was so excited to see a new person. "What's your name?" She clasped her wrist in front of her, her shoes dangling from her fingers. The hem of her coral dress was slightly damp from the waves.

David squinted his eyes at the figure approaching him. It truly was something out of a fairy tale. Snake found himself in complete awe of what was before him, and his jaw slightly dropped accordingly. As she drew near, he could begin to make out her gentle features. She was young, about ten years or so more than Dave. Her eyes were what took him back the most, standing out like a couple of blue roses. She spoke, and he shook off his moment of admiration.

"Why, hello! I'm Giselle. And you've just arrived, haven't you?"

"Yeah, I have. Now could you please tell me just where the hell I arrived at?" - he droned in an annoyed tone. He tried his best to hide his fright and shock from the sudden loss of his mattress.

"What's your name?"

"It's Sn ...." He stopped himself. He was so used to telling people his codename in the field that he'd almost forgotten his given name. "My name is David, and you are?" He took a look around the immediate area. It almost looked like a tropical resort. Was this all real? Was he dreaming or what? Dave wondered what he should do, now. As a methodical man by nature, being taken to a summer getaway from a winter wasteland would put a wrench in his routine. "This couldn't be too bad, right?" - he rattled off in his mind as he locked his eyes with the girl's. Snake was taking this a hell of a lot better than any normal man would, but he was, after all, a master of adaptation.

As the tide began to rise, he noticed the water creeping farther and farther up the shore with every wave. A swim in temperate seas? That was something Snake hadn't done since his days with the Green Berets. He made a mental note to be sure to find a pair of swimming trunks. Dave would have to make the best of his stay, if it either proved to be real or a dream. In any case, he was standing in front of a beautiful female in a five-star vacation spot. Who could complain?
