Day 8
Who: Sailor Neptune and Mamoru
What: Arrival
When: Early Afternoon
Where: On the beachfront
Rating: PG
Status: Complete!

Dying had hurt more this time. That was Sailor Neptune's first thought as the world collapsed into blackness and she felt her life bleed out. Maybe it was because it had taken longer. Still, as her soul floated in the blackness, she felt consumed by the feeling of failure. They had failed to protect the Princess. She and Uranus had pulled their last, desperate gambit and it had failed. And she hadn't even been able to hold on to Uranus in their last moments.

She drifted in the void, nothing more than a scrap of consciousness that hadn't quite faded yet. Then, suddenly, she felt warmth and weight again. Could it be? Was she being revived? If anyone could pull if off, it would be Sailor Moon. Neptune felt herself smile. That girl really could do anything. It would all be all right, and she could reunite with her beloved!

Something twisted sharply and she felt herself hit ground hard. Sandy ground. That wasn't right. They were in downtown Tokyo, not near the beach. But she could feel the gentle rhythm of the tide pulling at her and hear the sounds of the waves. With a nearly inaudible groan she pushed herself up and looked around. This was definatly _not_ Tokyo. She checked and realized she was still in senshi form. Well that was good at least. If something bad happened, she could at least fight. She looked around for someone who might know what was going on.

He shook his head, and if he hadn't seen such strange things in his life, and especially since coming to Mirage, he would have thought she was completely and totally insane. Even so, it was hard to swallow. But if it helped her to talk about it, well, he could put his doubts aside. Anyways, everything he remembered about Princess Neptune said that she was not the type to lie.

"A daughter. With Usagi. Who I'm going to marry. This is all a little hard for me to take, since I only just discovered that I'm Prince Endymion."

He glanced over at her as she read the plaque, pondering how odd it felt to be able to talk to someone who knew who he was. Neptune, he realized, was the first person he'd ever admitted to being Prince Endymion, except of course Usagi when she had awakened his memories. But his pondering changed to concern as she fell to the floor, and he went down onto his knees beside her.

"Princess... I know it's a lot to handle, but you can do it. Anyways, yesterday I was alone, and now you're here. Perhaps, the planet will show mercy and bring our friends."

He glanced down, refusing to show how much he wished that would happen. To see Usagi again right now, that would be the best feeling in the world. And maybe it could happen, since Neptune was here. There was a chance, wasn't there?

"I'm no princess." she said softly. "I was a warrior. Now..." She took a deep breath to steady herself.

"Just call me Michiru." she said, her voice sounding dull even to her ears. She stood slowly. "I'm sorry, I was just... I apologize. I shouldn't let myself get carried away like that. I'm hardly the only one here who's been separated from their... from people they care about."

Her eyes narrowed as she looked at the plaque again. "This... Planet has a lot to answer for."

"The way I remember you, you were a princess. You and all of the other Sailor Senshi. And... of course, Usagi..."

He sighed and rose to his feet, knowing that she probably didn't want his help. Even though, to his surprise, he wanted to give it to her. Of course, he was Tuxedo Mask, and she was a Sailor Senshi. It probaly wasn't that surprising that he should be drawn to protect her.

"Michiru. And, of course, you can call me Mamoru. And now there's two of us. Maybe more will come."

He glanced over at the plaque himself, having more time to fully read it. The last time, he'd been being harassed by the pink haired girl. It still didn't make that much sense to him. He sighed and turned away.

"We need to find your room, Michiru. Last time, a golem came and gave me a key. I don't know if that's how it happens all the time, though."

As if summoned by his comment a golem entered, holding out a room key. Michiru let out a short, humorless laugh and took it with a barely polite bow.

"Service" she said bitterly, as she looked at the key. "C 155. I assume that's floor and room?" She glanced back at the golem. "Don't suppose the things provide maps too"

"No, but they will point you in the right direction if you ask them. I don't think they talk."

He took her question seriously, as he was in the habit of doing, and waved the stone creature off. This was someone from his own world, someone who made sense to him. Or, at least, most of the time she did. He would show her himself.

"I'll show you. I'm in the A building, and the C building can't be too far from that, can it? Your room is in C dormitory, first floor. I'll show you."

"Thank you" she said and she turned the key over and over in her hand. She took a deep breath and forced a smile. She would make it through this. Right now she'd go along with this. Maybe Mamoru was right and the others would show up.

If not... Well, the Planet had a lot to answer for, and she'd start demanding answers.

"I do apologize for my behavior. Much has happened in a short time, even before coming here."

"You're welcome."

He led the way out into the open air again, towards the dorms. He knew this had to be hard, but, well, at least he was here, and not the girl who had greeted him.

"No, it's not a problem. I left during a time that was very... busy. I had just found out..."

Long habit made him cut off his words, though, even with her. He just simply was not really used to talking about this with, well, anyone. He found C dormitory fairly easily, and pushed open the door.

She favored him with a long, thoughtful look. His was different than how she remembered him. Less... self-assured. It was almost endearing.

She placed a hand lightly on his arm. "I am sorry. I can't imagine what that must be like." She moved past him and into the room. Her breath caught in her throat as she looked around. It looked exactly like her room at home. Every last detail of furnishings was perfect, right down to the water stain on the bedside table. She walked over to the bed in stunned silence and fingered the corner of the covers. She could feel her eyes start to sting, but she refused to cry. Not here, not in front of someone else. She closed her eyes for a long moment, and then opened them again. Turning back to Mamoru she said "This planet has a nasty sense of humor."

"Yeah, but I think you can imagine, actually. I think you can imagine very well, since you're in the same situation."

He smiled at her and peered into her room, curious about what it would look like. It obviously affected her, but he couldn't see why. It just looked like a normal room to him. But it wasn't any of his business.

"Do you... want me to leave you alone, Michiru?"

He didn't really want to leave her, since she was a link to his former life, but he had basically run off to be alone the first opportunity he'd gotten, and he couldn't blame her if she wanted to do the same.

Part of her wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Part of her wanted to cling to anyone or anything that reminded her of what she'd been torn away from.

"No." she said finally. "I'll be alright. Perhaps you could show me around? We could talk or whatever. We at least know the same people." She let out a short laugh. "Well, sort of at least. And about not being able to imagine... I meant being ripped away when you'd just figured out who you were and such. I _know_ who I am and such."

He nodded and smiled at her a little, glad in a way that she hadn't sent him away. Of course, he would have gone if she had. He liked being alone too much not to respect it when someone else wanted to. But he knew her, and it was just good to have someone he knew around. Not that he and Princess Neptune had ever been the best of friends, but they had at least been aquainted.

"Right, then. I think the first place I should show you is the restaurant... it will give you whatever food you order, anything at all. Also, this room? It can look however you want it to."

He'd discovered these things through trial and error throughout the evening and night last night, and this morning at breakfast.

"Mmmm" she said, noncommittally. As hurtful as it was that the room was so much like her one at home, it was a island of familiarity in this unfamiliar land.

"Lead on then" she said, pulling the door shut behind her. "So the resturaunt will give you anything you want, the rooms will change to what ever we want... Will this planet provided _anything_?'

"Yes, that's right. It will give you anything you want to eat. Just tell the waiter thing and it will bring it."

He frowned at her question thoughtfully before speaking.

"I know it gave me clothes, and food... I don't know if it will give you absolutely anything. But I noticed there's a lot of things... there's a library and... I guess it seems like the planet doesn't want us to get bored."

He shrugged and led the way out of her dorm building towards the main one with the restaurant.

"Hoping to distract us with things, since we can't leave?" she said with a wry smile. "Ah, I'll experement later. It has been... a while since I last ate. Maybe a little lunch?"

She followed him towards the restaurant, mentally noting were things were so she could hopefully find her way around without too much trouble. It did not do to appear lost.

"So" she said, as they walked "I know far more about you than you do of me, but most of that information comes through Usagi and Chibi-Usa's sweet, but admittedly biased opinions. Tell me a bit about you"

"That could be. It wouldn't surprise me. I think it, the planet, just really doesn't want anyone to leave. Maybe if it distracts us, we'll be happy. I don't know. I'm having a hard time with the concept of a planet wanting us around, anyway."

He opened the door to the restaurant and headed in. He'd been in here only once, when he'd been driven out of his room by hunger this morning. As she spoke, he looked over his shoulder at her.

"I know next to nothing about you... I remember you as a Princess, slightly older than you are now. Well... about me... I don't know what to tell you. Obviously, I'm not Japanese, I was born American and raised Japanese, but spent most of my life in Tokyo. I'm... well, I was before... a student in college. What else is there to say?"

He gave her the simple version, not comfortable much with talking about himself, and changed the subject as soon as possible.

"And you? I know you as being a little different."

"Past life memory can be a little unreliable" she said with a half smile. "It's misled me a number of times."

She looked around the restaurant curiously. It looked much like any other restaurant, though with markedly fewer people. And no hostess.

"Are we supposed to seat ourselves?" she asked.

"As for me? Well, a lot of it doesn't matter now. But I am Michiru Kaiou, world-recognized violinist and painter, who still managed to fit being a senshi around that." He wasn't the only one who could be vague.

"Yeah, I'm getting that. I barely remember, it's all very new."

He shrugged and wandered over to the table, indicating the golems with his head.

"Well, they don't seem to be about to seat us, so yeah. I mean, this morning at breakfast, I did."

He frowned thoughtfully as she spoke. He vaguely remembered Princess Neptune playing beautiful music on the violin, but only because she'd mentioned it.

"Michiru. The name suits you. And you paint, too? Very talented. Being... who I am, I can understand the senshi thing more than most, I guess."

Which was the understatement of the year, probably. He'd been a college student, had a social life, and had to constantly be around to protect Sailor Moon. It had been busy, to say the least.
