Who: Rose and the Doctor
What: Arriving on the Planet
Where: Just outside the ranch
When: Today, just after this.
Rating: PG? If that?
Status: Complete, threaded

Rose kept her hand in the Doctor's swinging their joined hands between them as they started toward the door. She pushed it open, first noticing how warm it was as they stepped outside. "I don't think this is our stop," she said, glancing up to the Doctor. "Not that that'll keep us from exploring."

She tilted her head, sniffing. "It smells like...animals. And grass." She idly wondered where on earth- well. In the universe- they had ended up. "Any ideas? I don't know."

And then suddenly there were...creatures, walking in their direction. Rose slowed in her tracks, bringing a hand up to shade her eyes. "Wha- Can you see what those are? They don't look like anything I've ever seen."

"Smells like barbecue," she replied, sniffing the air again. As they reached the building, the smell of manure became less pronounced. "I wonder if they have any chips..." She looked around again before her gaze moved back to these creatures. "They...look almost human. In form, except for the made of rock and dirt bit..." She frowned slightly, then giggled as the Doctor ran into one. "But yeah. Does look a bit like Earth to me."

"Yeah, definitely humanoid of some kind..." he agreed, peering a little too curiously at one of the creatures. "That is really kind of weird. He has.. eyelashes... eyelashes of stone! My God, you're a masterpiece!" he exclaimed, not even getting a smile for his enthusiasm.

Instead, the creature pointed silently to a stone tablet. "Welcome to Mirage!" the Doctor started to read, thrilled to figure out where they were. "Thankyou! Never heard of it!" he commented.

Rose was surprised that the creature seemed to have no reaction to the Doctor peering so closely at him. She turned to the tablet as the creature pointed, reading it silently. Her eyes widened as she continued to read it, and she looked to the Doctor. "Wait. Is that saying that we can't leave? Ever?"

That certainly grabbed his attention, and the Doctor's eyes grew a little wide as he read the plaque over and over in disbelief. "What?! No, no... we're not looking for a new home, thanks. Must be a mistake. Got the wrong people," he insisted, although as he read the tablet one last time he shot Rose a look of disgust.

The only response from the golem was to place a room key upon the stone. "Yeah, we won't be needing that. Because we are leaving. About... now!" the Doctor insisted, but the golem gave a slow and steady shake of his head, pushing the key toward them with increasing urgency.

Rose winced at the look he gave her-- God, that did not sound promising. "I don't- they've got to let us go." She bit her lower lip, but the golem merely shook its head. Sighing, she stepped forward to take the key. C222. "It's got a number on it. Think we should at least check it out?"

"Well, technically they don't have to, but this is starting to sound more like a prison than a home," he said ominously. He scrunched up his nose in distaste as she suggesting taking a look at the room, but it seemed like they didn't have much choice. They weren't normal people, they would work out a way to leave. "Right. If we can beat Satan, we can beat this planet, too!" he insisted, before nodding to the stone man to lead on.

"Right. Of course!" she exclaimed, with a bit more enthusiasm than she actually felt. She twirled the key through her fingers-- nearly dropping it in the process-- before taking the Doctor's hand again and remaining close by his side as they turned to follow the golem, who had begun walking again. "We'll be alright, Doctor, yeah? We've gotta be."

The Doctor gave her hand a little squeeze and gave her a smile of encouragement as they started after their guide. "Yeah, course we will!" he insisted with a little more certainty than he actually felt. "We'll play along, have a go at horseriding or something! They've made a mistake. Think we're guests or something. I've been to leisure planets before! It'll be... different!" he grinned, failing to mention that the last leisure planet he'd been to nearly imprisoned him for a murder he didn't commit.

Rose smiled, though it didn't quite meet her eyes. It wasn't long before the Golem had slowed, pointing to a door. "I think this is it," she said, pulling the key out and stepping forward to push it into the lock. It turned easily and she looked back to the Doctor. "Suppose we may as well, yeah?"

"Yeah, but if this room isn't up to par, I'm going to have to speak to your manager!" the Doctor said, wagging a finger at the golem. Any excuse to get to meet whoever was running this place... although he could have sworn that the stoney face was actually smirking at him. "Let's see what's behind the blue door!" he exclaimed in the manner of a gameshow host.

She couldn't help but laugh, pushing the door open and taking a couple of steps into the room before pausing in her tracks. Her smile faded as she took in the appearance of the room; there was a faint glow and something about it reminded her of the TARDIS. A lot. "Um. Doctor?"

The Doctor frowned, looking about the room that seemed to have a greenish glow despite any apparant light source. And that hum... that hum that he'd stopped hearing altogether on the TARDIS suddenly became so apparant in this unusual setting. It was almost as though... it had been made just for them. Did someone know they were coming? Or was there some psychic element at work?

"Is this some sort of..." the Doctor turned to see the golem had disappeared. "...joke?" he finished uncertainly.
