Opening her eyes, Gwen sat up and very nearly screamed. The last thing she remembered was doing paperwork and noting that her eyes were crossing - she'd been so tired. But, falling asleep on her keyboard was one thing - waking up in a field near a lake was something completely different. Eyes wide, she took a breath, noting that she was alive - she could smell the fresh air around her. She reached over and pinched herself, wincing when she felt pain - she was awake.

"Oh, my God," she moaned, leaping to her feet. She reached into her back pocket for her cell phone, but there was no phone. Reaching for her gun, there was no gun at her hip. "Oh, my god!" Gwen exclaimed, turning around in a panic, looking at the ground around her as she patted herself down, noting that she was wearing jeans and a light sweater - not what she had been wearing at the Hub the night before.

The only thing that she could imagine was that there had been activity with the Rift, and she'd gotten stuck in the middle of it. Turning around again, Gwen noted several large buildings - hotels? Resorts? "What the bloody hell?" she mumbled, heading toward one of the buildings, shaking her head a little. She had to be dreaming, right? She saw someone walking out of the building and she cried out to them. "Hello! Excuse me!" she shouted, running toward them.....

Gwen stopped in her tracks when he greeted her so casually. "So, you already know what I'm going to say then?" she asked, walking toward the man. "I fell asleep at my desk and I woke up here, by a lake! And yet, you seem so calm... how is that possible?" she exclaimed, looking him up and down.

Now, he might have looked relatively normal, but Gwen had seen a lot since she'd started working for Torchwood, and one thing she'd learned was to not take anything at face value. If she had fallen through the Rift, then he could be any manner of creature. "Where are we?"

The Doctor tried to keep a straight face as she looked at him suspiciously; he supposed it was a fairly normal reaction, but there was something about the way she examined him that suggested she was used to watching her back. "I've been here for five days now, so I guess you could say I'm pretty used to it!" he explained, giving her a shrug and a friendly smile.

"Well, actually we're on this planet called Mirage," he explained, a little cautiously. She looked fairly self-assured, but he couldn't necessarily be certain that she'd readily accept such a fact. "It's sort of... kidnapping people for it's own entertainment," he explained slowly, watching her to see if she was following him or not. "I mean, not horrible sadistic entertainment! Like a leisure resort, basically. There's a welcome tablet thing... if you want to take a look?" he added, pointing over his shoulder with his thumb, hoping that might explain things a little better than he could.

Gwen stared up at him, honestly how could he be so calm about this. "Another planet?" she repeated. Taking a breath, Gwen raked her fingers through her hair and clasped her fingers behind her head as she turned toward the resort. "A planet that's kidnapping people for it's on entertainment... and giving them a vacation for it?" she summerized, letting out a sarcastic laugh.

It was close to being the most ridiculous thing she'd ever heard. "But, I'm in different clothes, my phone is gone and my gun is gone. I had all those things on me when I went to sleep - I mean, I was at work!" she said.

The Doctor grinned widely, nodding along as she summed up the situation rather perfectly. "Yeah, pretty much!" he laughed. "It forced me to go fishing. It's like an enforced holiday or something, which kind of defeats the purpose," he explained, nodding to her to follow him as he started to head toward where the welcome tablet was located. "I think it's a brand new planet that's... trying to steal itself a population. The only actual citizens are these sort of living statues."

He frowned slightly as she explained that her outfit had changed. "Huh, that is a bit odd. Mind you, I was kidnapped mid-flight, so it didn't have much of a chance to steal anything from me. You might find your other things are already in your room," he explained, remembering how his psychic paper had already been in his room on his arrival. "It has these weird psychic rooms," he added, raising his eyebrows as if challenging her to doubt it.

She nodded with a hopeful look on her face. Gwen didn't like being without her phone or her gun - not that she had much intention of shooting anyone at the moment, but who knew where she was!

"Mid flight?" she repeated. "You were in an airplane and you were kidnapped? Someone must be looking for you then!" she exclaimed. Gwen couldn't get it into her head that she was on another planet.

"A plane? No, no, no!" he insisted, although he instantly regretted it. This woman probably had absolutely no idea about space travel, never mind time travel... but hey, she was on another planet, surely it wasn't going to be that surprising. "More of a spaceship, really. Dragged the whole ship in and now she's stuck," he sighed, rounding a corner and frowning slightly as he tried to remember the exact location of the welcome. "Don't think it's personal, mind you. It seems to enjoy variety, random selection, that kind of thing. We were just... unlucky," he shrugged. "Unless you meant the other people on the plane must be looking for me. But I suppose I kind of covered that possibility, too," he grinned.

He frowned slightly, looking about at the almost identical buildings that now surrounded them. "Ah!" he exclaimed suddenly, dashing off toward what appeared to be the center of the complex. "Here we go!" he grinned, waving a hand over the plaque that held the only information about the place. The rest was all speculation.

Gwen turned toward the plaque, forgetting for a moment that he'd said he'd arrived on a space ship. "This is all... a lot," she said, reading over it. "Love... The Planet," she concluded, a feeling of dread washing over her. "Well, at least the bloody thing is polite," she sighed, turning back toward the man she'd been talking to.

"So, I guess if I can't kill anyone, then my gun is gone," she frowned. "How long have you been here?" she asked him.

The Doctor scrunched up his nose and gave her an exaggerated shrug of his shoulders. "Well, it can be polite as it likes, it doesn't change the fact that this place is a prison. A pretty prison without visible bars, but a prison nonetheless," he sighed, pressing his lips together as if trying to stop himself from an outburst of frustration.

"Yeah, seems likely," he nodded, crossing his arms over his chest and bouncing a little on his heels. "Don't need a gun anyway! Horrible things!" he told her, not patronising or disapproving in any way, but rather optimistic of the situation. "My ship was pulled here five days ago, bringing me and my companion along for the ride," he explained.

"Yes, this is rather prison-like. I suppose I should start checking this place out." Gwen sighed and tapped her toe a little. "Any idea what other sort of people are here? I mean, is it all people or... other... creatures?" she ventured. Obviously if he was a space traveler, he'd met aliens - and maybe, just maybe this planet was pulling all sorts of people from different places - maybe just maybe it had pulled Jack away from the Hub as well.

"It's just that in my line of work, I see a lot of strange things - I've just never been right in the middle of it," she said in a frustrated tone.

"Oh, you'll need your room key. I don't know... there was a stone person with mine," he explained, frowning a little as he looked about trying to sight a golem that might be able to help. "Well, everyone I've met so far has at least been humanoid in appearance," he explained, quite well aware that it was hardly conclusive evidence. "All from different time periods, the majority being from Earth but not all of them. I'd say it's only a matter of time before some non-humanoid people show up," he shrugged. They were on a different planet; he'd hardly expect that everyone would be humanoid, unless the planet was selecting them on purpose.

"Really?" he asked, pulling his eyebrows together with curiosity. Depending on what she meant by strange... she might have been working for UNIT or something similar. "And you're human, right? Welsh, I take it?" he asked, recognising the accent. Perhaps she'd been involved in the whole Blaidd Drwg issue a while back. Then again, if she was from Cardiff, the Doctor knew only too well the sorts of strange happenings that went on in that city because of the rift.

"Am I human?" she laughed, staring over at him. He asked so casually, she wondered if he was human. "Yes, yes, I'm human," she assured him, "and yes, Welsh," Gwen nodded. "Judging from your accent, you're from somewhere around London, but you haven't always been there - and judging from the fact that you asked if I was human, you've had encountered with beings other then humans," she deduced, "which would lead me to ask you what you are."

She was afraid to hear the answer. Gwen did not want to be here, she did not want to be a part of the Rift issue. She wanted to go home.

The Doctor nodded along, rather amused by her logic and reasoning as she returned the question to him. "Not London, no. I sort of picked up the accent from a friend of mine. I suppose I've spent a lot of time there, although... I've been drawn towards Cardiff more and more lately," he explained, giving her a rather curious look as he wondered if she would understand why, considering she'd said 'strange things.'

"I'm... I'm not human, no," he confirmed. She was on a different planet, his non-human status wasn't exactly going to add much more to be shocked about. "Time Lord," he added; no one so far had realised what exactly that meant, and since she didn't seem too familiar with the possibility of aliens, he figured she wasn't about to care much.

"Oh, I'm the Doctor, by the way! And there's your key," he went on, pointing to the key that had been placed onto the stone tablet by a golem while they'd been talking.

"Not human," she nodded, but he kept on talking - he seemed to like to talk. It wasn't until after he mentioned who he was that she paused. Gwen stared up at him as if she was staring at something she didn't believe existed until that very second.

"The Doctor... as in... The Doctor," she repeated, glancing for half a second at the key he mentioned. "You're... Oh, my god, you're real," Gwen breathed, taking a step back, trying to take it all in. She'd heard Jack mumbling about him, talking about the 'right kind of doctor' and waiting for his 'doctor' to return - she just didn't imagine that she would ever come face-to-face with him.

Gwen was on him in a second, her fists balled up against the lapels of his jacket as she shoved him against the pillar. "Where's Jack?!" she shouted. "What did you do to him?!"

Oh, that was just fantastic. The very second he'd let his guard down someone had figured it out. Perhaps she was some sort of archivist, perhaps she did work for UNIT after all. "Well, of course I'm real!" he exclaimed, assuming at first that she was so surprised because his existence following the Time War was something of a miracle.

And then she was on him, and his casual expression had changed to one of complete confusion. "Jack?" he asked, gasping a little; she had an amazing amount of strength for such a slim human. "What, Jack Harkness?" he asked, more amazed than intimidated. "What do you mean what did I do to him? I've not seen Jack since... well, for a very long time," he finished. He wasn't exactly sure what he was meant to say, the question was so vague and could have referred to any time period at all. "Who are you?" he asked, hoping it might shed some light on the situation. "And for goodness sakes, let me go, I am capable of talking like a civilised person, you know!"

"Let you go?" she repeated, "Let you go?! He has been looking for you for as long as I've know him and possibly much, much longer then that! One day, he just up and disappears and then I'm sucked onto this planet that has some kind of twisted personality and probably finds it amusing that I'm stuck here with the one man that Jack is desperate to find and you want me to let you go?! No!" she shouted, getting a bit hysterical. "You will tell me why he was looking for you!"

The Doctor open and closed his mouth, lips forming around letters but nothing coming out as he tried to make sense of the woman's slightly insane rambling about Jack.

"What? I can answer you without your brute force, y'know!" he pointed out, getting rather irritated by her assumption that he'd just run away if she let go of her death grip on his jacket.

"How am I meant to know why he's looking for me? Did you never think to ask him?" he asked, his voice a little high pitched in frustration. Of course, he had a few ideas about why Jack might be looking for him, but none he was willing to tell some shrieking woman who wouldn't even tell him her name. "Maybe if you'd just calm down and tell me who you are I might be able to help you!" he suggested, the tone coming out a little more patronisingly than he had intended.

Gwen let out a frustrated noise then let him go, taking a step back. "I work for Jack - I work for Torchwood," she told him. "He's been looking for you for years - decades or even longer, maybe! What's wrong with him?" she blurted out. "He's gone, Doctor! And I know that you have something to do with it! Don't you?" she accused. Gwen was being irrational, and the rational part of her brain knew that - but she'd just lost Jack, gotten sucked onto some bizarre planet and was now face-to-face with the infamous Doctor. She could afford a little irrationality.
