Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:complete, day 34, dean winchester, lizards, max guevara, sam winchester, shannon rutherford

-Who: Lizards and anyone!
-What: Lizards are swarming Mirage
-When: From morning to whenever the lizards are driven off/defeated
-Where: Location 5! The kitchen
-Rating: PG-13 for fighting
-Status: Incomplete

Another group of lizards were raiding the kitchens. For some reason, the refrigerators and freezers seemed to be stocked with food. The food was everywhere. Clearly, the mother lizards had never told their children not to play with their food because it was flying through the air as the lizards rooted around, looking for something that would suit their carnivorous diet and flinging what they weren't interested in over their shoulders without a care. Some were staring at their reflections in the mirror, not quite sure what to make of these new friends who were copying their exact movements. A few unlucky ones had discovered the silverware. At least three had already gotten stabbed from play fights that broke out as the lizards played out mock sword battles with the spoons, forks, knives, and even the sharp butcher knives. One lizard let out a scream of pain as another accidentally stabbed it in the hand with one of the knives. The other stared at its companion dumbfounded, not quite able to comprehend that it was his fault his friend had just been wounded.

(OOC: As the day goes on, more and more will appear. There will be about 200 total, so about four and a half for each person, including those who are staying inside, so those who are fighting will have more to take down.)

Here is a quick link to the map: Link)

Shannon took a deep breath and closed her journal. Moment of truth. She was going to meet Dean. As much as she hated it and would never admit it, her stomach was fluttering with nervous anticipation as she went to the bathroom and looked at her reflection in the mirror, touching up her makeup and fixing her hair. It didn't hurt to look her best, just in case, even if the point was just to eat lunch and meet her newfound friend.

When she was sufficiently satisfied with her appearance - and had changed her sandals to close-toed flats, even if she hadn't really wanted to - Shannon cracked open her bedroom door and peeked out into the hall. She wasn't sure whether she was disappointed or relieved when she didn't see anyone else out there.

Shannon's stomach growled and with another deep breath and a huffed exhale, it was decided. Time to go. Besides, she had to get there before Dean, anyway.

The walk wasn't very far, but when she got to the right building, she paused outside the entrance to the kitchen, hearing a commotion inside. Probably just some of the dumb kids running around and wreaking havoc just because their parents weren't around to tell them no. So in the mean time, Shannon paced nervously. What if Dean was nothing like the image she had in her head? Would her normally shallow outlook change the way she felt about him as a person? She liked to think not, but she'd only be trying to fool herself. Shannon knew how she worked. She knew better than to think that looks wouldn't matter. She also knew that the second she saw him, for better or worse, she'd be passing judgment based on his appearance. She hated it, but it was true.

"Oh, my God, come on," she muttered. She wasn't even entirely sure, herself, whether the sentiment was thought in Dean's direction or in that of the obnoxious sounds coming from the kitchen.

He heard the door slam one door over - well maybe it hadn't slammed but it had closed - and he momentarily wondered if that was her leaving. Could she have been right next door the entire time? That would be the biggest joke the planet had played yet if it were true. He shrugged and closed the laptop, tossing it lightly on one of the two beds before getting up. He'd promised her a head start so he pulled a fresh shirt from the drawer of his dresser, satisfied it was a simple black and nothing with a band logo. She was sure to dislike AC/DC and Iron Butterfly. He wasn't going to make that mistake right off the bat.

Not that he should be worrying what she thought about how he looked. They'd agreed... oh hell who was he kidding. There was a connection forming that he couldn't figure out completely and attraction was certainly part of it. Andy had called him whipped and he supposed he was because he made sure to give her a fair enough head start that she wouldn't possibly look over her shoulder and see him. He wanted that particular mystery to be solved when they had both arrived.

He left Lola in the closet. He didn't figure he'd need her so he didn't even bother opening the door to look at her. He set out then, approximately five minutes after she should have left. It was strangely quiet on the grounds. Everyone must be inside avoiding the lizards. Non-existent lizards. He saw nothing on his walk to the kitchen and he reached it in record time, having wandered there on more than one midnight snack run.

He was nearing the kitchen when he heard a distinctly female voice grumble, "Oh, my God, come on." He wasn't even late, in fact he was early. He raised his eyebrows and thought for a moment that he might just turn around and go back the way he'd come. He'd known a little bit of what he was getting into beforehand. And maybe it wasn't even Shannon.

So here it went. He turned the last corner and began down the hall. Which is when he both heard the racket coming from the kitchen and saw the blonde girl standing just outside. "What's going on in there?" he asked, still halfway down the hall from her. "The cook PMSing?"

Hearing a voice, Shannon stopped pacing and looked around. Her eyes rested on a guy who looked like he could be Dean's given age...but her heart sank a little at the prospect of that being Dean. He was...pretty... She couldn't help being disappointed.

"I don't know, I haven't gone in. I thought probably it was just some of the kids around here being stupid just because they could and I don't do kids, so..." she said with a shrug. "I was waiting for them to leave," she added.

She didn't want to ask if he was, indeed, Dean, because she didn't really want him to be. Instead, she shifted her weight slightly from one foot to the other and then looked over her shoulder toward the kitchen when there was a loud crash. "Oh, what the hell...?" she murmured, frowning in that direction.

Yes, that had to be Shannon and she hadn't lied about being very good looking. He smiled probably a bit too widely as he came closer and stopped beside her. She was looking annoyed and then was that disappointment? No, he had to have imagined that. He refused to go there just yet.

Dean chuckled at her reaction to the loud noises in the kitchen. It did sound exactly like kids running wild in there but he hadn't seen any kids since he'd gotten here. Which didn't necessarily mean there weren't any. They could be ghost children from another dimension for all he knew. This planet was insane.

Instead of introducing himself, that could wait, he stepped toward the kitchen. Determined to put an end to the commotion so that they could go in and get something to eat. "Don't worry, I'll see what the deal is and hurry them on. I'm supposed to be meeting someone in there myself."

With one hand he pulled the door cautiously open and stepped inside. He wasn't sure what was going on but things had been flying through the air and he didn't want to get hit in the head. What he saw was beyond what he'd expected. Huge, man-sized lizards were running around, in much the same way he'd expected to see children. They seemed harmless though so he cleared his throat.

Two seconds later he flew backward out the door and landed on his rear at Shannon's feet, having been backhanded by a raised ladle meant for another direction. "Uh..." he said up at her.

Shannon blinked and tried very hard not to frown when he said he was supposed to meet someone in the kitchen. This had to be Dean. Had to be. Why did he have to be a pretty boy? She'd really, really liked him and now...

He'd gone into the kitchen and more crashes ensued, but Shannon let out a yelp of surprise and stepped back when he came right back through the door, landing on his ass at her feet.

"Uh...what?" she asked, raising an eyebrow and feeling another all together different but equally as uncomfortable sink in the pit of her stomach. "Don't tell me. It's real...the lizard thing," she sighed. "They're just stupid lizards," she added, stepping around him and pushing the door of the kitchen open forcefully.

"Yes, it's real. But! Wait, don't-" he said in a low growl and sighed as she didn't even bother to listen or take him seriously.

He got to his feet as quickly as he could and tried to stop her opening the door but she'd already done it. And drawn a lot of attention to herself. He hadn't drawn any because none of them had noticed he'd been in there and the one that'd hit him hadn't thought anything of it apparently. They could have gone away very quietly but she'd just barreled in there.

Now, standing in the doorway behind Shannon he saw that they were all stopped with knives, forks, and various other utensils that normally were very benign in the real world but which now all looked like they were gleaming wickedly with evil intent. And every one of the lizards was looking directly at them.

Shannon heard Dean - she'd decided for sure it was him, even if he hadn't said yet - talking, but what was done was done.

And now she was face to face with a crapload of giant-sized lizards all holding random kitchen utensils, most of which were sharp. They stared back at her and her eyes widened as a few of them let out screeching sounds of protest at her entrance and chucked knives and spoons in her direction.

"Shit!" she shrieked and ducked, trying to scramble backward only to back right into Dean as utensils fell short or bounced off the doorjamb and one of the knives hit the door beside her hand with a thick and heavy thunk, sticking in the wood.

Dean caught her in the curl of his arm as she backed into him and propelled her away from the door into the hall as more nasty, slicing utensils were hurled in their direction. With both hands then he threw his weight against the door to the kitchen as several of the lizards lunged toward it, slamming hard but with no effect yet.

Putting the edge of his black, steel-toed work boot to the seam of the door, Dean turned toward Shannon, his expression both concerned and frustrated. "Now is not the time to freak out, Shannon," he said because he would have recognized her immediately from how she'd just charged into the kitchen practically rolling her eyes. "I can't hold them in there forever with just my toe and if I let go, they're coming after us. If they caught the smell of you they might track you even if you run away from me. So stick close while I think of a way to get us both out of here, ok?"

The blade of a large meat cleaver shot out between the crease in the door and the wall near Dean's face and he nearly let go of his hold on the door. "Shit!" he gasped. "I need a gun. Now!"

And the planet obliged. In his hand materialized a bright orange and yellow super soaker water gun. Dean looked upward. "What the hell is this?" he demanded. "I meant a real gun!"

Dean's movement was so smooth and fast that it hadn't really registered to Shannon fully what had happened until it was over and he was holding the door shut and telling her not to freak out.

He'd called her by her name; he knew it was her. Clearly she'd been right that it was him. Now, however, wasn't exactly an opportune moment to ask him what he thought. She nodded at him, wide-eyed. Yeah, Craphole Island had polar bears and smoke monsters, but man-sized lizards throwing kitchen utensils? What the hell was she supposed to make of that?!

"I'm not going anywhere alone if that's what they all look like. They can't just be in the kitchen, that's too easy," she breathed.

When the meat cleaver hit, Shannon jumped and screamed in surprise and, well, all right, fucking fear; that thing was inches from hacking into Dean's face, for Christ's sake. At least he was asking for a gun.

"Are you fucking kidding me?" she asked, dumbfounded. "Is that a goddamn water gun?! What the fuck, Mirage?!" she shrieked, panicking fully and without inhibition, now.

She heard another thump and the door behind Dean moved a little. No friggen way was she going to let those things out of there. The wood was thick and heavy; the first knife that had hit it had only been able to sink in as far as the tip, so she wasn't terribly worried about them slicing through the door.

Taking a deep breath, Shannon made her way hurriedly over to Dean and leaned up against the door beside him. "Now what?" she gasped.

He offered her a wan smile in response to her statement that she wasn't going anywhere alone. At least she was as smart as he'd given her credit for. "You're right. They're probably everywhere if they're in the kitchen."

There was more thumping on the other side of the door but it didn't sound like more sharp objects were being tossed. He wondered if they had just thrown what they had in their claws without really thinking about it. Yeah, you wish, Winchester.

"Yeah, it's fucking Jurassic Park in there and I get a super soaker," he said darkly, glaring at the water gun in his hand. He was tempted to toss it down the hallway or dump it on the ground and stomp on it with his feet. But something told him to hold onto it. The planet had a sick sense of humor, that was for sure, but supposedly no one was allowed to die. So maybe they had a fighting chance and the water gun would be helpful. He was skeptical but willing to try at least.

He took a deep breath and glanced at the door then at Shannon. She looked like she was on her way toward a full fledged fear fest. "You've got to calm down just a bit. I know this is fucked but I need you to be as clear-headed as I know you can be. Can you do that?" His voice was even and quiet, just above a whisper and in no way condescending. "I'm going to open the door a crack and try to spray them with this thing. It must be good for something or the planet wouldn't have given it to me."

Shannon gave him a weary smile back and nodded. "Guess it's not just the water," she joked feebly.

The idea of a water gun being their only real defense was, at the very least, unsettling and Shannon closed her eyes for a moment as she tried to take it in. I wish Boone was here... she found herself thinking miserably as still more thumping sounds vibrated the door behind the two of them.

Dean was telling her she had to calm down. Was he insane? She looked back at him with wide eyes and swallowed hard, but nodded. "Okay..." she agreed breathlessly.

She moved away from the door and stood back, shaking. This was some fucked up shit right here...Craphole Island had nothing on this.

Dean half-smiled at her quip about the water and paused long enough to appreciate her wild beauty now that she wasn't as composed as before and wouldn't notice his brief blip in focus. He hoped. The whole ordeal and the fear in her eyes hadn't made her less attractive to him. And the fact that she was keeping her head for the most part was a definite plus.

Then he was back to business. He was sliding into the zone. His eyes were taking on less of an annoyed or concerned air and more of a bright, excited look. He could feel the adrenaline hitting him like a thousand times before when he'd been in the thick of it, fighting the big bad monsters. He knew he could get them both out of there and in one piece.

"I'll be quick. Open, squirt, shut. So you might want to back away a little so I don't knock into you in case I'm wrong and they throw the door open. Can't afford to have you-"

A particularly heavy thud against the door shoved his steel-toed boot backward just enough to allow an ugly, scaly arm through the door. It clawed at the air between their faces as Dean tried to recover his balance and his control of the door.

"Oh no you don't, bitch!" he shouted and sprayed the arm with the water gun. A loud cry issued from behind the door and the arm writhed in agony as its own tried to pull it free of the door again.

Taking a few more steps back, Shannon nodded. "Okay," she whispered even as he kept talking. And then he was interrupted by a heavy thump and Shannon stumbled back a few more steps letting out another shriek of panic when she saw one of the lizards' arms make it's way through the door, groping about in the air, trying to grab for Dean.

"I want a gun too!" she blurted out and when another super soaker, matching Dean's exactly, appeared in her hands, she cocked it and aimed. "Fuck off!" she shouted shrilly, blasting toward the arm and only managing to piss the thing (or maybe another one behind it) off more when she missed.

Angry screeching and hissing echoed in her ears and the door was shaking between Dean and the lizard. "Can't we just fucking run?!" she gasped at Dean.

Dean allowed the door to open just enough so the creature on the other side could pull its arm back and he could spray a wide arc of whatever was in the gun at anything just inside the door. He heard a lot of angry hissing as he slammed the door again and turned toward Shannon.

He grinned at her then. She had a water gun too. That was unexpected. She'd tried to arm and defend herself. Self-sufficient was a good thing though he hadn't really minded the idea of having to save her from scaly lizards either.

The thumping on the door was more brutal and Dean's entire body rocked with each lizard that hit the door. "Yes, we can run. But where do you suggest we run to?

When Dean closed the door, Shannon dropped the water gun down to her side, chest heaving with the heavy, shaking breaths she was taking.

"I don't know...anywhere but here?" she asked, frowning. She wanted to join him at the door again because the door was moving and his whole body was taking the hits without extra weight against the door, but she was frozen to the spot. "You have a better plan?" she asked.

Dean grunted as one particularly feisty lizard threw extra weight against the door. Or were they ramming it in twos? Or worse - with something else... He glared at the door and slowly switched his feet so that the other was holding back the door now.

"Do you think you can outrun one of them? Several of them? There have to be twenty of them in there, Shannon."

He frowned slightly at the shakiness of her breathing. She must be a lot more terrified than she was letting on, he decided. He had to figure out something fast. He might be enjoying the thrill of this but she definitely wasn't.

Then he had an idea. "Go, run down the hall or outside and bring back a golem. Scream bloody murder if you have to. One of those stone bastards should be able to hold the door shut, right?"

Shannon couldn't decide if his expression was worry, concern, or flat out disappointment that he could tell she was afraid. He might live for this stuff, but Shannon didn't want any part of it.

"No..." she admitted, defeated.

She felt hope swell in her chest, though, at Dean's suggestion. "Oh, my God, you're a fucking genius!" she squeaked gratefully. "Yeah those fucking things would have to hold the door shut. They're servants," she said, relieved. "Hang on, okay? You'll be okay, right?" she asked as she started to back away toward the hall, not sure she should leave him alone but knowing one of them had to go.

She finally turned, though, at that last realization, and sprinted down the hall. As she was about to turn the corner to go outside, she stopped dead, nearly falling backward as she saw that there were more lizards, even, out there. It took a lot of effort not to scream, but their backs were turned as if they were guarding the door and she didn't want them to see or hear her. She hurried back around the corner and pressed herself against the wall, gasping. "I need a golem...I need a golem...I need a golem..." she panted, closing her eyes.

Taking a deep breath, she opened them again and let out a mixture between a laugh and a sob when she saw a pair of golems standing there in front of her, having materialized there. "Come get the door from Dean," she whispered before pushing herself off the wall and sprinting back into the room where Dean was holding off the lizards.

"Good news and bad news," she told him softly, not wanting to raise her voice, just in case. "Which do you want first?"

Dean was more than a little surprised that she'd accepted his mission to go and get a golem. He hadn't thought it a particularly brilliant idea, in fact he didn't think the golems would even help if the planet was behind this whole lizardmania. Still, the hope in her eyes and she even seemed concerned that he would be alright when she left him - it made him grin to himself for just a moment. Then he furrowed his brow again and cleared his throat.

"Yes, I'll be fine. Just hurry, ok?"

He watched her go then turned his attention back to the door. There seemed to be hacking sounds on the other side. They must be trying to carve their way through the door now. He could also hear what sounded like talking on the other side of the door but it didn't sound like any language from earth.

When Shannon came back he had been squaring his shoulders to ready himself to spray the lizards beyond the door. He stopped when she spoke and turned back to her. "Bad news always comes first. So the good news softens the blow."

Nodding, Shannon took a deep breath and huffed it out, exhausted between the fear and the running. "There's more of them. Down the hall around the corner," she said. She ignored the scraping sounds behind her, assuming they were the golems, making their slow way toward them to help. "But the good news is...I don't think they saw me. And...there's two golems."

She raised a hand to her forehead and then moved it down to pinch the bridge of her nose. "They're slow as hell because they're stone, but they'll come, I know it."

The sentiment was spoken too soon. More scraping and now clicking sounds, much closer than before, caught her attention. The clicking took a second for her to process but once she did, her eyes went wide. It sounded like a dog walking down the hall. A dog who needed its nails cut. Shannon whirled around just in time to come face to face with a Charlie Pace-sized lizard. Shorter than her, but a little stockier. She screamed, but before she had time to do anything else, its arms shot out, one of its hands (or whatever they were called on lizards, she thought fleetingly) snatched her by the wrist and the other went toward her face. She turned her head and its talons tangled in her hair, yanking her head back as it whirled her around so that she was facing Dean again. It wasted no time dragging her back a few steps even as she tried to kick back at it, screaming for it to let go. Shannon didn't even have time to look back at Dean, because she was too preoccupied trying to shake the fucking lizard off.

Her foot connected with something, probably its leg and it hissed and let out a shrill noise of anger and pain before pulling her hair harder, so that her head was drawn back nearly resting on its shoulder. Where were the goddamn golems?!

Dean dropped the water gun in his hand as the lizard attacked Shannon. With one swift kick, he wedged the plastic toy's slender grip beneath the door to the kitchen in place of his boot. It wouldn't hold very long but it would buy him enough time maybe to get her away from the nasty thing.

"Hey, leave her alone, jackass. I'm what you want. Right here!" he shouted, tapping his chest with his hands in a large-armed gesture to catch the lizard's attention. Behind him he could hear the water gun cracking as the lizards in the kitchen felt the give when he moved away.

The lizard growled at Dean or maybe it was communicating with it's idiot buddies down the hall.

"Close your eyes!" he said to Shannon. Then he ran at the lizard, kicking up the super soaker that Shannon had dropped earlier into his hands and spraying as fast and as much as he could manage right in the thing's eyes. The lizard acted like it had been burned and loosened its grip on Shannon.

Wincing in pain as she tried to look up at the sound of Dean's voice and was unable to move her head, Shannon felt relieved that Dean had taken notice and was trying to distract it. Not that he was succeeding, because the lizard took another few steps backward, taking Shannon with it.

She heard Dean shout at her to close her eyes, or at least she assumed it was her he was talking to to, Shannon squeezed her eyes shut and the second she felt the lizard loosen its grip, she kicked back at it again and elbowed it in the stomach. It screeched and she felt its grip loosen again. This time, she lunged forward, trying to break free. She succeeded faster than she thought she would've and stumbled forward, grabbing onto Dean's shirt to steady herself.

"Jesus fuck," she gasped and clung to him, looking over her shoulder at the thing as it writhed in pain on the floor.

There was another crash and she looked back over Dean's shoulder, gasping as the door splintered down the center. More screeching from behind her sounded and Shannon looked back over her shoulder again, defeatedly looking back at the rest of the lizards, crowding around and in front of their fallen friend.

"We are so fucked..." she breathed against Dean's chest when she pressed her face against his shirt so that she didn't have to face the things. "We're so, so viciously fucked..."

Dean kept spraying the hissing, angry lizard until Shannon was free. He laughed for the exhileration of it as he watched her fight the thing off but he was a little startled that she immediately flew at him, grabbing his shirt. He didn't mind but he wasn't exactly used to having a girl in the middle of a hunt. Not this kind of girl at least.

He breathed in the smell of her hair and put an arm around her so that he could turn toward the sound of the crash behind them.

"Oh we have to move," he said low, near her ear. He turned around again as the screeching sounded behind them. And suddenly they were staring into the faces of at least five more lizards. None of which looked friendly. Behind them, down the hall, he could see the two golems putzing slowly toward them.

Dean smiled slightly and tilted his head toward them. "Uh hi! We're just going to be going now. You wait right here. Ok?"

To Shannon he whispered into her hair, "When I say go, you run like you've never run before. Get to the golems and stay behind them no matter what."
