WHO: Tonks and Sarah Williams
WHAT: SLUMBER PARTY!
WHEN: Day 33, evening
WHERE: Sarah's room
WARNINGS: PG-13?
STATUS: Complete

Tonks really didn't know quite what to think about the whole thing. In truth, she didn't have all of the story, and she knew that. But she did know that someone was hurting, and she was too good-hearted to just sit back and let that continue. She'd liked the girl in their conversations, and thought it was more than time for them to meet in person. So she headed over to Sarah's room, stopping briefly in her own to pick up some pajamas. The rest, she figured, the Planet would provide.

First, however, she did stop at the kitchens, and picked up some ice cream. She couldn't decide for flavors, so got four different kinds. Two were normal, chocolate and vanilla, which she figured a muggle would hopefully like. The other two were wizard flavors, pumpkin and a special one that changed with each spoonful, much in the way of everyone favorite jelly beans.

Loaded down, she finally made her way to Sarah's dorm, and then to her door. The golems had been very helpful, all she'd had to do is ask where the girls room was and she was pointed in the right way. So, less than half an hour after their conversation, she found herself outside Sarah's room with her hands full. She knocked with an elbow, because that was all she could manage, and then blew some of her bright hair out of her eyes because she couldn't use her hands. Like her shirt, her hair was a brilliant, lovely green. She also wore a black skirt with black and pink leggings underneath.

As she waited for Sarah to open the door, she wondered what would happen. To be honest, as long as she had a good time, she didn't really much care. She'd been doing a lot of ringleading for trying to leave the Planet, and could use a nice break.

"Yeah, I guess he could have done it some other way but the way I came to see it -- he was from a place where things like that are taken very seriously. You speak words, you summon and you get what you asked for. I don't know if I'd say he doesn't know any better but it's part of his nature. Or maybe I'm over thinking him. Most of the reasons why I love him came to me during long periods of time when I actually wished he would come back and ... not kill me as I'd feared, but save me from the horror that became my life. That I allowed to become my life. I wonder if he actually would have if he hadn't been taken my Mirage just after I defeated him."

Part of her was done talking about this because it felt like an exercise in futility. Tonks wouldn't understand and why should she? Sarah didn't even understand. It just was. She felt inextricably connected with Jareth. Which is why their parting had hurt and made her so angry, then depressed. It wasn't right that they weren't together...

"Why would you have to leave Marcus in a short time?" Sarah asked, suddenly catching a regretful note in the other woman's voice and snapping out of her own problems. Unrequited or confused love was one thing but love that was accepted and the lovers together but having to part was far worse!

Something stirred in the heart of her, the part that had loved all of the romantic and tragic plays in the past. She felt such a surge of compassion for Tonks that she reached out hesitantly like she would put a hand on the other woman's but pulled back self-consciously. "That's horrible. I hope it's not true!"

"Yeah, I guess. Muggles and wizards do things differently, and it must be even more different for humans and... you know, whatever he is." She still wasn't clear on that. But it probably wasn't exactly important, not really. "Is that what you want? For him to take you away from your old life? Cause, you know, Mirage already kinda did that."

She sighed softly once more and shook her head. "I'm sorry. I just don't understand, I guess." But it didn't really matter to her, Sarah was obviously hurting and that was more than enough to get her worried. She might not understand all the intricacies of the situation, but she didn't need to.

"Oh?" She frowned slightly. "We should make cookies, but I think you need to ask the Planet for a stove first..." She bit her lower lip and started to bounce sort of anxiously on the bed. "Well... it's just that I need to go home, and so does he. But we're from different places and different times, so if we find a way home..."

Tears sparkled briefly in her large, dark eyes, but she blinked them back with an effort. "To tell you the truth..." She looked anxiously at the woman and then at the bed as if she were deeply ashamed "I sometimes wish that we won't find a way home, that we can stay here together for the rest of our lives... But that won't stop me from looking. And that's a secret, please don't tell him."

"Honestly, I don't know what I want. I thought I wanted him to love me. I mean, he kissed me and nothing else in the world mattered and never would again. Until I pulled away. It scared me to feel like that. About him. But it feels undeniable. I don't know. I'm sorry too. I know you don't understand. I don't really either." Sarah sighed and rubbed her eyes with her thumbs.

"Believe me, I would never tell Marcus that, Tonks! I don't really want to find a way home either and I don't have a Marcus to want to stay for. It must be so much tougher for you. I'm so sorry. It's not - " she paused and closed her eyes, "Not fair."

She wanted to reach out and hug Tonks when she saw the tears in her eyes. Her heart completely went out to the other woman in way she hadn't felt herself care for anyone else before. There was something so tragic about the hand that the Planet had dealt Tonks and Marcus. Where it seemed to have been playing therapist for her and Jareth, it appeared to be playing asshole extraordinaire for Tonks and Marcus. She wanted to do something about it.

"Hey, um. Could we maybe go out to make our cookies? Think they'd let us make a mess in the kitchens? It might be more fun than sitting around in here."

"I rather think..." She had been intending to say something to the effect that she couldn't see how it was possible that Jareth not love Sarah, but in the end, it wasn't her place to go into. After all, if he felt it, he should say it. So she just smiled slightly at the woman and dropped it.

"No... I guess it isn't..." She laughed softly, wiping the tears away with the heels of her hand. "The funny thing is that I talked to a girl I know back home who was also kidnapped by the Planet? I guess it must have sent her back, but before she left, she told me that back home I married a werewolf and was killed in the last battle." She bit her lower lip once more. "It makes it even harder to want to go back home, but..."

There was a long pause before she spoke, very very softly. "But there's a baby. I had a baby with this werewolf, a little boy." She got up off the bed and wandered to her corner, not wanting Sarah to see how she knew her face must look right now.

To have an excuse to be there, she picked up her clothing and started dressing. "Okay, let's do that, then! Go muck around in the kitchens." Once she was dressed in the clothing she'd worn over, she turned around and smiled. "But don't think you'll be getting out of this without a makeover... it just isn't going to happen. We'll have to come back with the cookies."

Sarah was fine with dropping the subject of Jareth and all of the feelings that went along with that. She wanted to think about something else now and it seemed a lot more important to think about Tonks and how she was feeling right now. Never having had girl friends -- or real friends of any sort except the ones she'd made in the labyrinth -- it felt strange to be so drawn to wanting to cheer up and comfort someone else. But Tonks was so irresistably tenderhearted that it was impossible for Sarah not to want to reciprocate.

"Ohh," she said. "No, I really understand not wanting to go home after finding that out." She slid off the bed and went to her closet to change from her sweats but she paused and turned back toward Tonks. "A baby? Oh, Tonks..."

It made her feel so ridiculous to be so worried and upset about the whole thing with Jareth now. Hearing the real struggles Tonks had on her mind and she was always so upbeat in spite of it! Sarah's face burned a bit, feeling shameful, and she buried it in the closet, looking for something bright red. Red always cheered her up. Maybe it would cheer Tonks too.

And the cookies!

"Alright, alright. I won't forget about the makeover. And you're staying the night, right?"

Soon enough, she was dressed in the outfit she'd worn. She stole a quick glance in the mirror and decided that she needed a different hair color. Green was nice, but there was something about pink that just cheered her up immeasurably. So she concentrated and moments later, her hair was the shade of cotton candy-pink that she prefered.

"Yeah... a baby." She rested her hand over her flat stomach with a pensive look on her face. "But I wonder what sort of baby a metamorphmagus and a werewolf would have, anyway. Would he turn into a wolf at the full moon? Or maybe just half a wolf, with pink fur."

She tried to make light of the situation, for she'd come here to cheer Sarah up, not to bring her down with her own concerns. "But it doesn't really matter, you know. I have to fight in that war." She tilted her head to the side. "Oooh, I really like that shirt. Alright, are you ready? Let's go take the kitchen and bake up a storm!"

She considered for a moment, and then smiled again. "It'll be quite a challenge to try to bake with a muggle kitchen... I hope I don't set Mirage on fire, by accident!"

Sarah finished getting dressed and stepped out of the closet in a very bright red shirt and jeans. She found a silver heart-shaped pendant in the jewelry box and she couldn't remember where it had come from so she wore it. Things without sentimental value were perfect right now.

She stepped beside Tonks in the mirror and nodded approvingly. "That is a brilliant shade of pink for you." And she smiled a bit at the other woman in the mirror then giggled. "When we do our makeovers, do you think we could make my hair the same color?"

Her face fell slightly at the thought of Tonks having to fight in a war that would end in her death. She wasn't ready to let go of this person who had swooped in like a ray of sunshine and turned her evening into what was fast becoming a very good time.

"I'm ready to go, yes. Let's go bake the best chocolate chip cookies ever. I'll help with the kitchen, since I am after all a muggle." She grinned at that word. "I'm determined to have as much fun as possible though, I warn you."

Tonks walked over to Sarah and pushed an errant strand that had escaped from the braid away from her face. "Perfect!" Clearly, nothing could keep her down for all that long, as she gave the girl a bright smile and turned to look at their reflections in the mirror.

"We clash horribly, though..." The pink and red really didn't look very good together, even someone who liked things as bright as Tonks did could see that. She giggled and nodded. "Oh, yeah! Let's give you pink hair! I've seen muggles with hair like mine, so I know it can be done."

She was very willing to just let go of this line of talking. It was negative, and she knew that talking couldn't really do anything about it. Sure, it had made her feel better to get it off her chest, but she was more than ready for some fun.

"Okay! Between the two of us, we should be able to come up with something smashing!" She grinned and turned away from the mirror, toward the door. "Well, good! That's how I am all the time, so let's do it!"

Sarah could tell she was going to have to learn to get used to Tonks proclaiming her things like pretty and perfect. Well, she hadn't been proclaimed perfect, her hair had. Still it was a new thing, this friendship. It's what she had imagined having a sister would be like when she was little and an only child.

"I'll do," Sarah smiled some and then noticed the very Valentine's Day image they made in the mirror with their clash of colors. "Oh no, we do, don't we? Ok, just a minute."

She dashed into the closet and popped back out in a black shirt this time. "Voila! Now no matter which hair color you choose, we won't clash! And neither will I if we can pull off the pink." She grinned and then darted for the door, pulling it open to the hallway.

"Now let us to it pell-mell," Sarah began quoting with a silly, theatrical voice that deepened comically as she delivered the last line. "If not to heaven, then hand in hand to hell!" And burst into giggles. "After you."
