Although he'd lived for more years than humans had even existed for, he'd never had a day like the one he'd had yesterday. It seemed there were a lot of 'nevers' going on in his life recently, actually. He'd never been kidnapped before, only now Mirage had changed that. He'd never been bowling before... and he chose not to think much about that, But above all, he'd never had coffee with his nemesis, and had never expected to. Even kings who had been alive for thousands of years don't know everything, apparently.

Though no one would have known it simply by looking at him, he was still hashing the whole thing over in his mind. What had happened, and why? In the end, though, he'd been able to come to only one conclusion. He wasn't exactly sure the why and how of it all, but he was sure of one thing. He hadn't hated anything that had happened, no matter how awkward it had been. Perhaps that was enough.

He'd gone back to his room after the odd chat with Sarah, and been there ever since, thinking it through. Now, however, it was time to get out of there. So he left the room that was the spitting image of his throne room in the Castle at the center of the Labyrinth, after dressing in his more typcial Fae style. Jeremy, it would seem, was not an everyday sort of thing here. And he was much more comfortable in the outlandish, romantic clothing he favored. Mortal clothing was so strange.

The king didn't have any particular plans, he just didn't want to spend any more time in his room. So, thinking he would perhaps take a walk (and just happen to stroll past Sarah's room), he turned the doorknob and stepped out his door into the hallway beyond it.

"Yes, you have your reasons. Whatever they are, they must be to knock the feet from under me and make me your personal possession again due to my own stupidity. Right? Is that it? I would say I don't care but I'd be lying. But that's not the reason I have been frustrated with your lack of disclosure. You keep the thing going. Demand that I think but give me nothing but vague behavior to go on. If you think I'm going to stand here as a child in front of your thousands of years and proclaim that I think you to be in love with me, wanting to marry me for that reason then you never learned anything about me."

She laid the cloak on the stone wall of the bridge beside him as gently as though it were made of spiderwebs or gossamer. It was a reverent act in spite of how up in arms she was feeling right now.

"Thank you for your cloak. I am very grateful that you wanted to keep me warm. I am very grateful that you've spent so much of your time showing me around." Her tone conveyed that she was as sincere as she could be, soft and regretful. "I think... I think this has gone far enough in the land of illusions."

With one last unhappy look into his lovely, mismatched eyes, Sarah turned and began to walk back toward her room, tears of frustration and sadness flooding her eyes. All of the fight gone from her now.

"I believe I told you how I feel about you attempting to put thoughts into my head." He was getting a little annoyed himself, actually, though he was still managing to keep a tight reign on it. Unfortunately, a lot of what she was saying had a ring of truth to it. He had kept things going long past when she would have dropped them. So this, well, it was really his own fault and there was nothing else to say about it. He would like to, of course. It would be nice if he had some amazing rebuttal that would blow her away, but he didn't.

So, instead, he busied himself by bundling up the cloak and then putting it back on. Now he was the one noticing just how like her it smelled, and it was slight distracting. Which was pretty much the opposite of what he needed.

Maybe if he'd been paying more attention, he would have realized that she meant to left. But really, what would it have changed? He still couldn't say those words. Twice before, to two other women, he had said them and it had gone horribly. He simply couldn't allow himself to say it again, even if he felt it so strongly it seemed to fill every fiber of his being. And even if he could say those words, how could he tell a girl that he'd been in love with her mother?

Jeremy would have run after her, begged her to listen. Jareth would have thrown spells, made her stay against her will,if necessary. But the being he'd become, somewhere between the two, had no idea what to do. So he just stood as if frozen, watched her leave, and lost himself in self-recriminations. Now, surely, he had lost her. No one could blame you for walking away... and he couldn't, really, not at all. So he watched, and after she'd disappeared, he sighed and headed off. Not across the bridge, but rather down the river. Eventually, he would find the lake. Or not.

To be honest, he didn't really much care.

Sarah continued all the way to her room. She didn't look back to see if he was still standing there or following her. She figured that if he wanted her to stop, he would have said so. The tears were dried on her cheeks by the time she reached the door and her resolve set to maximum. That was how it was going to be, was it?

So the truce was disbanded and a new one formed. She would avoid him as best she could. He obviously didn't want her around anymore and she didn't have a desire to be where she wasn't wanted.

She entered her room then and slammed the door behind her.
