  • [info]deird1: Making The Talking Sound Like Talking - I’ve read a whole bunch of meta on writing, and nearly all of it mentions that you should make your dialogue sound more natural by “adding in umm’s and oh’s and stuff like that”. -

  • [info]stewardess: Fandom: Blogging Bag Ladies - To SUP, LiveJournal USA is the flagship department store in a slowly decaying downtown. And fandom is the bag lady sleeping in the entry way. -

The posts are created from our delicious feed, and are identical on all three journals. That some posts may have mirrors is true, but the tediousness of hunting down that mirror, replacing it in the post for each journal post (remember it's not just IJ if we do that, it's JF too) is not something we really want to do. In general, we dislike measure that create more work for us :P We already each spend several hours combing through people's flists finding posts - and really, what you're asking us to do amounts to much more than "2 minutes". It's also worth noting that while some people here on Ij have completely migrated off LJ, that is not true for many of our subscribers here, and I'm not sure that they would see the splitting of the conversation you propose as value added.

We ARE currently working on a new version of del.ici.ous glue that will visually differentiate between journals - hopefully that will add to the value of the community.

Well, if I find the posts mirrored, and post the corrected links in a comment, will you update the post with the corrected links?

If they don't want to receive comments on their mirrored journal, they have the option of saying so or of disabling comments. If comments are enabled, I'd assume they want to receive comments.

You're welcome to add links in the comments, but at this time we wont be editing the posts. It's not just the work issue - this sort of action would contribute to the further balkanization of fandom and goes against our ethos. Metafandom is about centralizing conversations, and your proposal would effectively decentralizes them.

If they don't want to receive comments on their mirrored journal Sorry to be unclear, I wasn't referring to the OPs but the general metafandom community members.

You know, you might check out metablog or metametameta here on IJ. My understanding is that they *only* link to meta on IJ - that's their niche and they do it very well.

Yes. That's what I think fandom needs. We should be trying to decentralize fandom from Livejournal: we shouldn't be all wrapped up in one place with conversations only happening on LJ and fans who offend LJ's owners thus banned from most fannish discussions. That's all about the balkanisation of fandom.

I can't join in discussions on livejournal. When you link to interesting posts on livejournal, I don't even bother to read the discussion. What I am interested in is conversations going on where I can join in the discussion.

Sorry to be unclear, I wasn't referring to the OPs but the general metafandom community members.

I thought that included me? Does it only include people with livejournal accounts?

My understanding is that they *only* link to meta on IJ - that's their niche and they do it very well.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Ok, but that's not the purpose of metafandom. The conversations happen where they happen, and metafandom links to them so readers can follow - and for most people, join in. I realize that is not an option for you on LJ, but surely you don't expect every other member of metafandom to change the way they converse because you cannot/willnot participate on LJ? Surely if this is your issue - and really it seems to me that it is - then finding alternative links/mirrors is your solution. You're welcome to find the links and drop them into comments. But I fail to see how asking us to change the entire concept/ethos of the comm to suit your needs is either fair or reasonable.

I thought that included me? Does it only include people with livejournal accounts?

Yes it includes you, which is why we've been discussion your letters in group, and here. FYI issues like this always end up in confab so really there's no reason to seek out multiple editors with the same issue. We tend to need a bit of time to discuss it - different time zones/jobs - but we will reply and we will have a unified anwer. Expect a longish email soon :)
Just because we disagree with your proposal does not mean we don't value your imput - or even that we dislike the idea. We simply don't think it works for us.

There is no metablog on IJ. What were you thinking of?
