Now You're Dead Meme

Hey. Guess what? You're dead. Yup. That's right. You've kicked the bucket. Ceased to be. Curled up your tootsies and shuffled off this mortal coil. Go find Casper and give him a bitchsmack for me.

Post with your character name/fandom/options.

Use RNG to pick your scenario.

Tag others for lots of happy-dead funtimez.

1. Dead but don't know it yet - You're dead. Technically. In all senses of the word, but your sheer stubbornness is refusing to let you move on. Does someone need to spell it out for you?

2. Trapped in your own body - Dead and you know it, only you don't seem to have gone anywhere. You're trapped in your own body as the people around you deal with it. Are you at the morgue? Is it just after you died and you can see the horrified stares? Are you in a coffin or being shoved in an incinerator? Either way, there's a huge lump of no-envy here for you.

3. Incorporeal - Well, you're out of your body, at least. But you're a shadow of your former self. Congratulations, you're a ghost. The question is, now what're you going to do? Haunt your friends? Spy on the hotties? The possibilities are endless.

4. Moved on - You've shuffled off the mortal coil and are headed for your final destination. Question is, where the hell are you going? Up? Down? Sideways? Reincarnation? You're finally going to find out what's beyond that final curtain.

THREE. Whoops feels

[ Rick remembers the crash. He'd been driving himself and Winnie home from... somewhere, it hardly seems important now. Probably Apples to Apples at one of their friends' apartments. There'd been a car coming at them, Rick had had to swerve to miss it -- and then everything goes black.

When he wakes up, he's in a hospital. There's this monotonous droning noise in the background that he can't place at first. Nurses and surgeons are bustling around him, looking somber, taking off their bloody gloves and distantly Rick can hear someone say "Call it".

[On some level, Winnie feels like it's her fault. After all, the only reason they had taken the car instead of the subway was because of a group vacation out-of-town. Just a weekend at the beach before having to fight their fellow New Yorkers for a prime bonfire spot. But then there was the oncoming car and a quick swerve that shoved her against the door and the sound of metal twisting and blood and her arm hurt like a bitch and Rick wasn't laughing anymore.

After that everything was a blur between the ambulance and the doctors and getting medicine to dull the pain and not a single answer about Rick until a man who reminded her of Dr. Gashlycrumb came to tell her that they did everything they could and that they're sorry for her loss and asking who do they need to call to take her home since all that's wrong with her is a broken arm and they need the bed.

[ Rick is dead. He's not sure how he knows it, exactly, but he is one hundred percent positive that he's dead. It explains the droning noise he woke up to -- the machine monitoring his heart rate was telling the world that he had no pulse. Strangely, Rick's not too fussed about being dead. Maybe it's the fact that he can't do anything about it, or that everything seems so much more peaceful now, but he can't manage to get himself too worked up.

And then he sees Winnie, and oh yeah, he definitely cares now. She looks devastated, and Rick's running over to fold her in his arms before he even has a chance to think. Instead of hugging her, though, he just stumbles through her, and a strange tingly feeling races through him. Spinning around, Rick reaches out to touch Winnie's shoulder, but his hand goes through her again.

Win? Win, can you hear me? Come on baby, please tell me you can hear me.

[Winnie just stares ahead numbly, the only sign that she even registers that he's there is the slightest shiver when he passes through her. That's what she keeps doing for quite sometime until a voice calls out from down the hall, making her turn to face the doorway to see her aunt walk in.

After a few minutes that feel more like hours, a talk with a doctor, getting a prescription for some heavy duty pain killers, and filling out what feel like too many forms, Winnie's curled up in the front seat of her aunt's Jaguar.
]

Freddi, do you want to come back to my place? Liv's making lobster macaroni and cheese.

[As much as Winnie wants to protest and say she needs to go home so she can wake up in her bed so this entire nightmare can be over and she can cling to Rick and know that everything is going to be okay, she just doesn't have the energy to do so and nods.] Sounds good.

[ By the time Winnie's aunt gets there to pick her up, Rick is screaming at her, trying to get her to listen to him. Every time he tries to touch her, his hands pass through her, and he's getting so frustrated he wants to cry.

One more try. One last attempt before he gives up and follows Winnie home and tries to figure out how the hell he's going to let her know that he's okay. Concentrating as hard as he can on being corporeal -- which wow, did he never think he'd have to worry about that -- he wraps his arms around her shoulders and holds on tightly.
]

Come on, Win, I know you can hear me. Please hear me.

[On some level Rick might actually be getting through somewhat, since there's a tiny part of Winnie's brain that seems to almost hear him. A part of her brain that is instantly silenced by the more rational part of her that says that there's no such thing as ghosts and causes her to reach for the volume on the radio to turn it up so as to block out the voices in her head.

One thing is certain, though. If she keeps thinking she hears Rick, she's definitely going to have to either convince Dr. Gashlycrumb to stay in Manhattan after the funeral or go with him, because hearing voices definitely is not normal.

[ No, no no no she heard him Rick knows she did! He reaches out to turn down the radio again and his hand goes right through the dial, causing him to scream in frustration. The volume on the radio goes all the way up, and the entire car rattles a little. He'd feel bad about it, except maybe that will finally get Winnie's attention.

[Oh yeah, that definitely gets Winnie's attention. And her aunt's attention for that matter.]

Guess the radio's on the fritz. Your ears okay, Freddi?

Uh. Yeah. I guess.

[And Winnie slides back into the spaced out state she was in before until a familiar song starts playing. Some generic pop hit that sounds like a million other songs. Except this time it doesn't sound like a million other songs because it's what was playing when they crashed a few hours beforehand and, without thinking, Winnie darts her unbroken arm out to change the station, earning her an odd look from her aunt.]

Sorry. I just...it was on when...I can't listen to that right now.
