The Wild Side meme

Readers of fanfiction will recognize this set up straight away. Maybe your character's touched some cursed object they shouldn't have? Maybe they've ticked off the local witch? Maybe it's just in their blood and it's "that time" of the month? Whatever the case, it's time for a change and you just changed right in front of someone...

Fur, fangs, or tails. WHAT NOW?

« Post a comment: Character name, canon/fandom, and any preferences.
« Go to RNG and roll: 1-5 for the duration of the change, 1-4 for the awareness, and 1-25 for the critter they'll be wearing and/or...
« Wait for other newly changed critters to tag back.
« Tag around to other folks!

Duration:
1. A few hours.
2. A day.
3. A week.
4. A month.
5. A year.

Awareness options:
1. None - You've gone completely native.
2. Partial, but fading - You knew, a minute ago, but it's not so clear now...
3. Aware, but non-communicative - You know who you are, who they are, and what happened. Can you find a way to communicate?
4. Dr. Dolittle - You can understand them or they can understand you. Big deal. You're still a frog.

Domestic:
1. Cat - Common tabby? Dainty Siamese? Floofy Persian? You're aloof, stealthy, and the master of your domain. Dig into the catnip and purr, purr, purr.
2. Dog - Little, yappy chihuahua? Great Dane? You're loyal, playful, and eager to please. Who's a good boy? Huh? Who's it? Is it you? Yes it is!
3. Bird - Parrots, parakeets, and finches... Maybe you talk? Maybe you chirp? Maybe you just eat, shit, and rattle the cage bars?
4. Rabbit - Twitchy noses and a hankering for leafy greens. Mind your surroundings and don't eat the black jellybeans.
5. Hamster - The world is your Habitrail. Except during the day, you lazy, furry bastard.

Herpetological
6. Snake - Scaly, but not slimy. Poisonous? Constrictor? C'mon, get slinky.
7. Lizard - Still more scales, but you've got a leg up on your slithering brethren (probably four of them).
8. Toad/Frog - Can you convince anyone to kiss you?
9. Turtle/Tortoise - Slow down, speedy! What do you think this is? A race?
10. Alligator/Croc - Ain't she a beauty?

Small Exotics:
11. Bat - They're great survivors.
12. Ferret - Shifty little bastards. Hide your shiny objects and watch your toes.
13. Sugar Glider - Nervous, nocturnal little marsupials. Your one function in life is to be adorable. Go with it.
14. Skunk - When you get pissed off, someone else gets pissed on.
15. Tarantula - You look terrifying, but you break like glass. Watch your step. All eight of them.

Large Exotics:
16. Large cat - Lions, tigers, cheetahs, oh my! They don't make carpeted climbing trees in your size.
17. Bird of prey - Eagle, hawk, falcon. The sky's the limit. No, really.
18. Horse - Watch out for those Texans and their spurs. On the upside, you are your own transportation.
19. Primate - Monkeys, gorillas, baboons... have a swinging good time!
20. Canidae - Wolves, foxes, coyote. Bark at the moon, but watch out for the animal control truck.

Holy Crap!:
21. Kangaroo - G'day, mate.
22. Penguin - Dapper little chap.
23. Walrus - My, but you look cranky.
24. Panda - Your adorableness is exceeded only by your ability to snatch someone's face off...
25. Bear - Winnie the Pooh you ain't.

How did that cat get into his study? Charles bends down curiously, dangling his pocket watch to catch it's attention. "Hello there...where did you come from?"

hehe WHOOOHOOO!

The cat had already been in the study. Or maybe... He was starting to lose track of... Ooooh, shiny! He stays where he is for a moment watching the nice shiny pocket watch before slinking towards it. Nice and stealth like except where his little kitty mind has all but forgotten about Charles.

Its all about the dangling pocket watch.

He smiles and drags the shiny chain along the carpet, letting the cat stalk it. Rather unusual cat...there's something about it that seems familiar.

Perhaps if Charles sees the eyes... but that may or may not help. However there's a slight sound from the cat as it stalks the shiny chain before that behind wiggles and then POUNCE. Ha! Take that shiny chain. He had it now.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

does he still have his metal abilities as a cat?

2012-03-06 04:17 am UTC (link)
Charles laughs, sitting on the carpet and giving the chain a tug. Taking the cat along with it. "Got it? You sure? I think I've got it now."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

If he does he doesn't realize it. lol

Hey! That was his and there's a slight hiss out of the cat before Charles' hand gets batted. Let go of that. He isn't letting go. Nope. Not until he has to.

"Hey now, no need to get mad about it." Charles lets him have the watch chain, reaching carefully to pet along his back. Unless he gets hissed at again, of course. The cat might be a stray and not used to people.

That back arches into the petting purrs slipping from the cat. Loud contented purrs. Even if Erik wouldn't normally be that contented with something like that. Moving away from the chain (we're sure to some extent it follows of its own accord), he rubs up against Charles.

The petting and attention was good.

"There, that's better." Charles pets and then attempts to pick up the cat into his lap. Curious the watch chain followed him, maybe it was snagged on a claw. He picks it up and dangles it in front of Erik's nose....

....wait...how did...? Charles stops, wondering why he got the impression that this was Erik. That's ridiculous. Isn't it?

Wait... HEY! What're you doing? But then that chain is being dangled in front of him and all thought goes out the window as his paw reaches out to bat at the chain. Oooh. He liked this vantage point better.

Of course that's would be ridiculous.

Now that he's thinking about it, where was Erik? Charles shuts his eyes, trying to reach out and find him...

...and starts getting some very strange thoughts. Catty sort of thoughts about shiny things.

"Erik? Is that you?" Charles sets the chain down, looking the cat in the eye.

All his thoughts are on shiny things and pouncing the shiny thing. That and Charles' shoe lace now that he was on the floor. So the cat looks him in the eyes and gives a mew. What was he saying?

Forget that... he tries to wiggle out of that hold, out of the petting wanting the chain back.

Oh no, come back here. Charles gets a hold around his middle, picking him up to look square in eyes. "Focus, Erik."

Can you hear me?

His telepathy usually doesn't work on animals, so this was a shot in the dark.

There's a low hiss at being picked up like that and he swipes at Charles. Everything in that little cat body screams 'Let me go.' It's only a moment later that Erik realizes... Oooh Charles was in his head.

Charles!

However, the shine from the chain was still there and his brain kept switching from it to the telepath and back.

"Oh my...." Charles is so surprised, he lets go of the cat. It couldn't be, it just couldn't. Erik's ability was bending metal, not shape shifting. He had too much mass, even if he was a shapeshifter, he couldn't go down to a small cat.

Unfortunately the moment Charles lets Erik down it's all about that chain again. That is before a smell hits his senses and he starts heading toward it. Which means heading toward the study door, paw reaching under said door.

That chain, however, seems to follow in Erik's wake because his kitty mind doesn't want to lose the chain.

Incredible. Charles takes a hold of the chain, the end of it dancing in mid air under Erik's influence. "Erik...um..." He didn't want to say come here, that just seemed...wrong.

He gets up and walks to the door. "What is it?"

Hey! Where did his... oh, okay, it wasn't too far from him. That paw digs under the door a bit more. After all he can't get out there to get to the scent. Not with a shut door in his way.

So he gets a mew saying 'Open the door.' He wanted out.

Charles rubs the back of his neck. "Ohh, I don't know if that's such a good idea." Maybe if he was supervised. Charles picks up the chain and then the cat, taking the cat with him through the door. "What are we going to do with you?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]lookforcreator
2012-03-06 04:59 am UTC (link)
Nope. Sorry, Charles, that's not going to happen. The moment that study door is open he wiggles until he can get out of the telepath's hands and then shoots down those stairs. Lets hope none of the children have the front door open.

"Erik...Erik! Come back!" Charles quickly pockets the watch chain and chases after. "Get back here!"

Hank gives him a strange look as he passes but Charles doesn't have time to explain.

Nope, not listening here. That little cat bolts right out the front door following the scent he'd smelled just moments before. He still doesn't know what scent it is and he gives Alex a slight hiss when he's nearly stepped on.

All in all that doesn't stop him from heading towards the scent though.

Charles gamely tries to keep up, man this cat was fast!

"Erik, focus, please??" He can't exactly stop to use his telepathy while running but he's trying. What is so important?

His mind is so caught up in that scent that Charles is being ignored. But he's headed right for the tree. So he can have Alex go after Erik or have Sean grab a hold of him.

Unless he wants to tire himself out. Because right now focusing isn't really on the top of Erik's to do list. It works better with Charles right in front of him.

"Sean! Sean grab him quick!" Fortunately, the young mutant is quick to react and manages to get a handful of Erik's neck fur before he can get away.

Charles pulls to a stop, catching his breath. That was quite a run. "Here, I got him." Reaching to hold the energetic cat firmly.
