The Wild Side meme

Readers of fanfiction will recognize this set up straight away. Maybe your character's touched some cursed object they shouldn't have? Maybe they've ticked off the local witch? Maybe it's just in their blood and it's "that time" of the month? Whatever the case, it's time for a change and you just changed right in front of someone...

Fur, fangs, or tails. WHAT NOW?

« Post a comment: Character name, canon/fandom, and any preferences.
« Go to RNG and roll: 1-5 for the duration of the change, 1-4 for the awareness, and 1-25 for the critter they'll be wearing and/or...
« Wait for other newly changed critters to tag back.
« Tag around to other folks!

Duration:
1. A few hours.
2. A day.
3. A week.
4. A month.
5. A year.

Awareness options:
1. None - You've gone completely native.
2. Partial, but fading - You knew, a minute ago, but it's not so clear now...
3. Aware, but non-communicative - You know who you are, who they are, and what happened. Can you find a way to communicate?
4. Dr. Dolittle - You can understand them or they can understand you. Big deal. You're still a frog.

Domestic:
1. Cat - Common tabby? Dainty Siamese? Floofy Persian? You're aloof, stealthy, and the master of your domain. Dig into the catnip and purr, purr, purr.
2. Dog - Little, yappy chihuahua? Great Dane? You're loyal, playful, and eager to please. Who's a good boy? Huh? Who's it? Is it you? Yes it is!
3. Bird - Parrots, parakeets, and finches... Maybe you talk? Maybe you chirp? Maybe you just eat, shit, and rattle the cage bars?
4. Rabbit - Twitchy noses and a hankering for leafy greens. Mind your surroundings and don't eat the black jellybeans.
5. Hamster - The world is your Habitrail. Except during the day, you lazy, furry bastard.

Herpetological
6. Snake - Scaly, but not slimy. Poisonous? Constrictor? C'mon, get slinky.
7. Lizard - Still more scales, but you've got a leg up on your slithering brethren (probably four of them).
8. Toad/Frog - Can you convince anyone to kiss you?
9. Turtle/Tortoise - Slow down, speedy! What do you think this is? A race?
10. Alligator/Croc - Ain't she a beauty?

Small Exotics:
11. Bat - They're great survivors.
12. Ferret - Shifty little bastards. Hide your shiny objects and watch your toes.
13. Sugar Glider - Nervous, nocturnal little marsupials. Your one function in life is to be adorable. Go with it.
14. Skunk - When you get pissed off, someone else gets pissed on.
15. Tarantula - You look terrifying, but you break like glass. Watch your step. All eight of them.

Large Exotics:
16. Large cat - Lions, tigers, cheetahs, oh my! They don't make carpeted climbing trees in your size.
17. Bird of prey - Eagle, hawk, falcon. The sky's the limit. No, really.
18. Horse - Watch out for those Texans and their spurs. On the upside, you are your own transportation.
19. Primate - Monkeys, gorillas, baboons... have a swinging good time!
20. Canidae - Wolves, foxes, coyote. Bark at the moon, but watch out for the animal control truck.

Holy Crap!:
21. Kangaroo - G'day, mate.
22. Penguin - Dapper little chap.
23. Walrus - My, but you look cranky.
24. Panda - Your adorableness is exceeded only by your ability to snatch someone's face off...
25. Bear - Winnie the Pooh you ain't.

There's a low hiss at being picked up like that and he swipes at Charles. Everything in that little cat body screams 'Let me go.' It's only a moment later that Erik realizes... Oooh Charles was in his head.

Charles!

However, the shine from the chain was still there and his brain kept switching from it to the telepath and back.

"Oh my...." Charles is so surprised, he lets go of the cat. It couldn't be, it just couldn't. Erik's ability was bending metal, not shape shifting. He had too much mass, even if he was a shapeshifter, he couldn't go down to a small cat.

Unfortunately the moment Charles lets Erik down it's all about that chain again. That is before a smell hits his senses and he starts heading toward it. Which means heading toward the study door, paw reaching under said door.

That chain, however, seems to follow in Erik's wake because his kitty mind doesn't want to lose the chain.

Incredible. Charles takes a hold of the chain, the end of it dancing in mid air under Erik's influence. "Erik...um..." He didn't want to say come here, that just seemed...wrong.

He gets up and walks to the door. "What is it?"

Hey! Where did his... oh, okay, it wasn't too far from him. That paw digs under the door a bit more. After all he can't get out there to get to the scent. Not with a shut door in his way.

So he gets a mew saying 'Open the door.' He wanted out.

Charles rubs the back of his neck. "Ohh, I don't know if that's such a good idea." Maybe if he was supervised. Charles picks up the chain and then the cat, taking the cat with him through the door. "What are we going to do with you?"

Nope. Sorry, Charles, that's not going to happen. The moment that study door is open he wiggles until he can get out of the telepath's hands and then shoots down those stairs. Lets hope none of the children have the front door open.

"Erik...Erik! Come back!" Charles quickly pockets the watch chain and chases after. "Get back here!"

Hank gives him a strange look as he passes but Charles doesn't have time to explain.

Nope, not listening here. That little cat bolts right out the front door following the scent he'd smelled just moments before. He still doesn't know what scent it is and he gives Alex a slight hiss when he's nearly stepped on.

All in all that doesn't stop him from heading towards the scent though.

Charles gamely tries to keep up, man this cat was fast!

"Erik, focus, please??" He can't exactly stop to use his telepathy while running but he's trying. What is so important?

His mind is so caught up in that scent that Charles is being ignored. But he's headed right for the tree. So he can have Alex go after Erik or have Sean grab a hold of him.

Unless he wants to tire himself out. Because right now focusing isn't really on the top of Erik's to do list. It works better with Charles right in front of him.

"Sean! Sean grab him quick!" Fortunately, the young mutant is quick to react and manages to get a handful of Erik's neck fur before he can get away.

Charles pulls to a stop, catching his breath. That was quite a run. "Here, I got him." Reaching to hold the energetic cat firmly.

Being grabbed like that gets Sean swiped at and he does his best to try and get away from that hold, hissing at the younger mutant. That hissing getting a bit worse the moment he's handed over to Charles in the same position.

He'd find a way to get down one way or another.

"Easy, easy, calm down Er-...." he manages to stop himself from saying Erik in front of Sean. "Er...thanks, I'll...make sure he's taken care of."

Time to walk quickly back into the house, petting Erik to try and get him to calm down.

Except that you're taking him away from the scent he'd had a lock on. That is NOT okay, Charles. You don't have catnip out there do you? Better yet you might want to distract him.

The petting is only going to get you so far and he's still not a happy cat.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

no joke, the vet did this for my cat when she had to get blood drawn, calmed her down

He scritches behind Erik's ear, carrying him to Hank's lab. Catnip's not a bad idea but they probably don't have any. What Hank does have is cat pheromones in a spray bottle. Charles puts the cat down on a blanket on a table, one hand firmly holding the nape and he sprays some of the pheromones on the blanket.

There's a hiss out of Erik though the scritching does feel really good. Though he fights the moment the telepath holds him down so to speak before the blanket is sprayed with something... he's not sure what.

It isn't the scent he was after but it smelled good. He just plops down on his side laying there, those eyes closing. He's not sleeping though. Just a content little cat for the time being.

Charles smiles, ruffling his fur a bit and putting the spray bottle away. "There. That's better. Now...we need to figure out how this happened." He gets down to eye level again, scanning the cat's mind to find out the last thing he can remember before becoming a cat.

Sorry about the mind scan, Erik, but I don't know how else to communicate right now. Erik might not understand all of that, but he might get the gist of it.

That cat mind doesn't understand one bit of that. Though it does cause his eyes to open a little. Charles is watched closely. There's no telling what the metal bender remembers to be honest.

Though maybe it was a young mutant that did this without realizing it. Some new mutant. But if that's the case then Erik really doesn't remember. Human thoughts weren't really his forte right now.

If it is, maybe they can reverse it? Charles gives Erik a pet across the back and gathers up the blanket around him. "Right, ok...lets get you fixed up."

He suspects he knows which mutant did it, there were only a few new ones around.

Maybe they can. There's a contented loud purr from Erik and the cat snuggles into the blanket, against Charles. He doesn't feel like moving. Nor does he have any clue what the telepath just said.

Hopefully it can be reversed. Unless the new mutant doesn't have a hang on those abilities yet.

4-1-16 RNG must like cats, you can choose if Erik changes back or not

Charles smiles, playing his fingertips against the small paws. It was very tempting to leave Erik like this.

But if he ever realized what was going on, Erik would have his head.

He knocks on the door of the new mutant's room...and finds it unlocked. "Hello? Anyone here?" Stepping inside.

Which spooks the mutant and she bolts past Charles and Erik with a quick Sorry! Charles tries to reach out to her to stop her....but he feels kind of strange. He falls forward onto his front...paws?? He's now a very sleek black jaguar.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Ooooh. I doubt Erik's changed yet. He's stuck like that for a week. lol

That purr continues contented even as his front paws are played with. Up until he's practically dropped which gets a hiss out of him. Though yeah... seeing the MUCH MUCH bigger cat has him hunkering down a bit, a hiss escaping him. This was HIS home.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[Charles' human thoughts are fading into the jaguar's, just standing there for a moment and smelling....trying to get his bearings.

The small hissing cat, that's not really much of a threat. For some reason...he wants to help. Charles settles down on his stomach, trying to make himself smaller and nonthreatening. A low mrrf sound to try and say he wasn't concerned.]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

It's all good, bb.
[info]lookforcreator
2012-03-06 05:59 am UTC (link)
[Yeah... trying to be smaller doesn't help. So there's another hiss from the cat (more like kitten) before he goes scenting around the big cat. Down to the point of trying to climb up the bigger animal to inspect him.]
