Good Ending/Bad Ending meme
Do you get a happily ever after? Or a 'Rocks fall, everyone dies'? Why not both?

* Post your characters and set up two scenes. One with an ideal setting (They got what they always wanted, hit it big, became rich and famous, etc.) and one with a bad twist of events (They're homeless, everyone hates them, maybe they're even dying!).
* Others respond to one of the two settings (Or both in different comments, if they want!)
* Respond.
* ???
* Profit!!!

Just remember: no ending is set in stone, good endings can turn sour, and bad endings can be made better. Just see where it takes you and enjoy the ride!

He bit back a hiss of pain, but he could give a small grim smile. "You need to know how a body works before you can kill it efficiently. I think I'm in good hands." He winced, digging his nails into his palms to distract from the pain. "I've always hated this part."

"Never been my favorite either." She said with a soft laugh, going over the worst of the injuries again, "There's infection," She said finally, "Near the shoulder, but it's not deep, hasn't gotten into the bone, so you should be alright, with time."

She'd already set the cloth aside, snagging one of the boxes on the table and popping it open, "Drawing salve." She explained, daubing it gently against the infected marks, and those around it, just to be on the safe side, "Probably going to sting like hell, but that's how you know it's working."

He hissed, digging his nails further into his filthy palms. "It's working."

Clopin bit back another hiss, biting his tongue. "Infection? Ah, another gift from the oh so honorable judge." That would explain why he felt feverish. And there he thought that was just from not eating or drinking.

She nodded, daubing a little more of the salve near damaged skin before asking: "Do you think you'd be able to keep some broth or some tea in you?" Some of the others had been in pretty bad condition, more from lack of food than from injury, but there was some of both.

"If I couldn't, I wouldn't survive for long, now would I?" In truth, he wasn't entirely sure, but his words held true--if he couldn't even handle that now, he would never be able to get the sustenance he needed before his body simply failed him. As it stood, he was thinner than he had ever been, which was really saying something considering the life he had led.

His mouth watered at the idea of food, but at the same time, his stomach cringed and constricted nauseously.

"Tea first." She said with a nod, slipping back over to the fire, snagging one of the tin mugs from the stack, ladling some tea into it from one of the kettles over the fire. She also fished another cloth out of the biggest one, wringing it out before she handed it to him, "For your hands, face too, if you like."

The tea was almost too hot, and was almost broth all by itself, given the number of herbs that had been steeped in the kettle. Predominantly mint, but other soothing and healing herbs as well.

He wiped his hands with one side of the towel, mostly cleansing it of filth, and then used the other side to wipe his face clean of built-up grime. It wasn't the level of cleanliness that he, as a gypsy, was used to, but he of all people knew that zakono codes of purification couldn't always be followed. So he made do with the towel, nodding to his savior in thanks before taking the mug.

Considering the circumstances, he did very well in restraining himself, but he still swallowed half the drink in one gulp. Liquid. Sustenance. His mouth burned and his stomach bucked unhappily at the sudden intrusion, but at the same time, it took enormous willpower to put the mug down and give himself a moment to readjust to actually drinking. To distract himself from the desire to simply gorge himself, he spoke. "Your people have done much for mine. We will not forget this."

"My mother was of your people." She replied, "Anything my people have done for yours is due to her."

She shrugged, adding the soiled cloths to the pile to be laundered, "And to save our own skins, in the long run, once the Gypsies were routed out, they'd have come for the rest of us, in time and in turn." Likely the Assassins would have been the last to go, since they were of some use to the clergy and the Palace, but they'd have been eradicated as well, in the end.

"Still, you have our thanks, and we will repay you when you need it." He downed the rest of the drink, coughing and clenching his teeth against the horrible ache in his stomach.

She inclined her head in a nod, "It's a debt we don't accept lightly, nor will we treat it so, even if it doesn't come due until our grandchildren's grandchildren call it upon each other."

There was a small flicker of a smile at that, shaking her head a moment later and going to refill the mug, "Keep with tea for now, we'll try broth after you've had a chance to rest."

"I'll be sure the memory of it stays alive."

He nodded in thanks and reached for the mug again. "Probably a good idea, mademoiselle. I'm not sure if I'd be able to handle much more than tea at the moment."

"There's beds." She said, nodding to a low-ceilinged storeroom to one side of the open area, one that had been converted to a makeshift bunk room, "If you think you'll be able to stand it. I know you're used to something a bit more opulent, but we're a simple people."
