[Action]
[Cain is experiencing that peculiar, uneasy dizziness usually reserved for people standing on the edge of sheer cliffs.]
[He can handle himself in the face of heretics, mutants, and aliens, for he is a conduit of the Emperor's Will, a stalwart soldier in the face of the impure. He may be a joke of a commissar, but he can resist corruption with the best of them... or so he thought. It had been far too easy to take the route of tolerance. When he realized the "diversity" of the prison's citizens, Cain figured he could get along with normal humans and avoid making enemies of the others. The actual outcome unnerved him, and now he finds himself keeping the company of psykers and non-humans and Emperor knows what else.]
[Not only that, but the mutation incident yesterday reminded him of a grim reality: the moment someone else from the Imperium arrives, he could be executed on the spot. Not only has Cain rejected his duty to purge and cleanse, but he willfully coexists with aliens and mutants. It's heresy and high treason, all in one.]
[And yet, the Imperium may never come to exist in this time line. In that case, following the doctrine is stupid and cruel, no matter who shows up and throws their weight around--even if it's the Emperor Himself. Cain knows that there must be a third option, but he's been weighing the problem so much that he can no longer concentrate.]
[Just for a little while, Cain seeks refuge in mindless distraction. Parked on a couch in a Shelter common room, clad in casual wear and socked feet, the commissar is working his way through a small stack of movies of seemingly random genre selection.]
[The mindless action flick? Hilarious and overblown. Hack and slash horror? Not even scary compared to what he's been through, but interesting on a psychological level. A terrible romantic comedy? Sure, why not. He even laughs when the writing is so bad that it's funny again.]
[There's even room on the couch if someone wants to join him and make fun of the worst parts of the movies.]
