[during the Thanksgiving mingle | action | open]
["Think about all the things over the last year for which you are most grateful"... That message had made her chest tighten. Sure, there were things she was grateful for, but she was pretty far away from a lot of those things at the moment. That was why she had decided to just sneak past all the festivities to grab a black notebook from her apartment and head off to the Butterfly Pavilion. She didn't really have a reason for going there, but it seemed as good a place as any, especially after sitting herself down in one of the corners of the park. If she could avoid unexpected company, all the better.

With a light sigh she cracked open the notebook and started making notes with her slightly large and looping handwriting. Every now and again she stopped to press the top of her pen against her lip and narrow her eyes as if she was figuring out a tough math problem, but before too long she would just get right back to writing as if nothing had happened. She had her limits though, and her eyelids were starting to get heavier and heavier in order to remind her of that.

...Maybe she could just rest her eyes for a moment. Just one. That wouldn't cause any problems, right?

And before she knew it she was fast asleep.]

[ Subaru wasn't at the party at all. She was busying herself with a patrol that she wasn't technically assigned to, but someone had to watch out for the rest of the dome in case anyone tried to take advantage of the gathering to start mischief, right?

And she had actually come to the pavilion for an entirely different reason when she came across the sleeping Jane. Her skates were not too loud, but now she was rather self-conscious of the gentle rumbling of the engines and the way the path crackled under the rolling of her wheels. If only she could sneak on by slowly, she won't wake her... ]

[ The subtlety of body language was often lost on Subaru. She needed direct signals, or she would miss out on the information she needed. ~~This is what happens when you grow up with tsunderes.~~

That said, she casually rests her arms behind her head and cocks one leg back to push the toe wheel of the heavy skate into the ground. ] You're not getting cold, I hope? It's getting closer to evening, and I think the party will be wrapping up soonish. [ A look over her shoulder, in the vague direction of the gathering some distance away. ] At least, I think so. It wouldn't be good to be out in the cold, even with free food and good company! [ Might make one wonder what she's doing so far away from it. ]

[She didn't answer at first. All she did was push the previously forgotten notebook out of sight and bite her lip.]

I'll be fine out here. Whatever doesn't kill me will just make me stronger, right?

[At least that was what she liked to think. It was easier to reassure herself that way. If all she had to do to make things better was to try harder, then there would at least be some sort of goal she could reach for someday. Even a lofty goal was fine with her.]

And I didn't want to go to the party anyway.

[ Pointing up. ] Unless it makes you sick! Then it'd just be a bad next few days for you while you get better.

[ Subaru decides that standing is all well and good when you're not trying to talk to someone who's on the ground. With some careful maneuvering, she plops down into the grass a few feet from Jane, the bulky skates vanishing from view in a flash of white light, leaving her with sneakers instead. The rest of her gear stays with her. ] Not much for the crowd?

That's one way of putting it, I guess. Celebrating a festival that I've never even heard of is too weird.

[Maybe that excuse would work.]

	I kind of enjoy learning new things like that, myself. [ She admits, even though she skipped this particular gathering, which is why she's here! ] [ Quite eagerly: ] What kind of festival would you want to celebrate?
