[ The Emperor protects, is all she could think to herself as she stared up at what she perceived to be a great armorcrys dome holding the water at bay.
Standing at the edge of the dome, a palm pressed against the clear surface that separated her and the great depths beyond, Calpurnia was coming into the enormity of what she faced. She had dropped the piece of unsanctified tech to the ground swiftly after it had read off its message to her, thinking it being a device designed to fill her head with lies and doubt and fear.
Things were still off, though. Wrong. This was not the order of thing. She was dressed in a simple tunic of dark grey, with darker slacks and a white sash about her waist. This was not the clothing of an accused, scheduled to be loaded into a cell on a dromon and shipped off to trial. Was she taken from her quarters? And when? ]
[ Calpurnia caught her own eyes in the slope of the glass in front of her, and her gaze hardened as if those piercing green eyes could force a hole through the dome through her will alone. ] This is all wrong.
[ She muttered to no audience in particular. Even the presumed servitors that moved around behind her on the road were just background noise now. The message she had read mentioned nothing of the Lex Imperia at all. There was no prompt for now mention of the accusations against her; no self-denunciation. The Law was not at work here.
Calpurnia's fist slammed into the dome hard, and she used the resistance to push herself away from it, spinning on a heel. The sight of her assigned headpiece on the ground before her caused her to pause. It could not be trusted, but perhaps it would be necessary. She spent a long time staring over at it some meters away, the fingers of her hand sliding up to trace the length of the scars over her eye.
The woman did not even notice anyone approaching... ]
