Heatwave Event - Day 377!
Summer is approaching and the wardens have decided to turn up the temperature for a day!

For the duration of Day 377 (May 23-29) the dome will be experiencing a heatwave. Temperatures will rise to 90°F/32°C and the wardens will treat you to all sorts of cooling techniques, including water balloons, super soakers, appropriate beach wear, cold treats in the food stands and a full-blown waterpark in Sector 0!

Have any questions? Ask them here! Feel free to use this post to plot amongst yourselves!

Mods, look what you did: I've spend twenty minutes trying to figure out if iced tea was a thing in Victorian England.

My conclusion is that Sebastian is going to spend the morning making 567326 servings of iced tea until he gets it just right so he can finally serve it to the nobility he waits on.

Y'all can have the 567325 servings that only turned out 99% perfect, he guesses.

sjfklsdjf that's pretty awesome. Also another thing for them to bond over, Lelouch canonically prefers cooking with atomic scales so that he can get the measurements precisely. right.

Sebastian just might be a bit of a borderline neurotic perfectionist overachiever. He once stayed in the kitchen all night and cooked the same meal fifty times until he got the right balance.

Are you telling him that all thIS TIME he could have been measuring his ingredients even more perfectly. Teach him your cooking ways, Lelouch.

Quotes you might appreciate:

"Suzaku, this is the fundamental law of confectionery-making: measure out your ingredients precisely, according to the dictated amount."

"...Hey! You call that an exact measurement? The acceptable margin of error begins after the third decimal place."

"It bothers me greatly when the measurements aren't precisely as they should be, so I have here Nina's favourite electronic scale. I borrowed it from her." (Nina Einstein (kof) works with atoms.)

So yeah.

Okay, so if this ever comes up between them I now imagine the rest of the conversation going something like this. Neither is much in the friends-making business, I don't think, but exceptions must be made when someone ~*~understands~*~.

Lelouch is actually very much in the friends-making business, it's just that about two thirds of the time he's less making friends than recruiting allies.........

But omg that gif. /plurks about it &the arts;

Yeah, I think this level of understanding in anime usually requires some dramatic music and clasped hands and silent tears.

Your phone tries its best, I'm sure.

Would you mind if I added you on Plurk? I went to click the "add as friend" button but now I'm not sure I actually clicked it. Clicking a second time out of the blue feels weird.

As an actual English person, I can tell you that iced tea isn't even really a thing here now, so I'd assume it was unheard of in Victorian times. We just don't have the climate to need it. We drink hot tea, to warm ourselves up. :-D

An English Victorian alternative might be lemonade? i.e. real lemonade made from actual lemons and sugar?

My Wikipedia-hunting landed me in pretty much the same conclusion (iced tea was starting to be a thing around the 1870's in America, not so much anywhere else, apparently). It's very helpful to have confirmation from a real English person, though, so thank you! I'm not sure why I decided it was a good idea to play a character who knows all about tea when I'm neither British nor even drink tea myself... Life decisions.

The point about lemonade is good too, thank you. He might just end up making both in the end. Tradition + daring innovation, the perfect combination.

Glad I could oblige, and I like the solution of making both! :-)

Also, I'm with you all the way since I play an American and always worry about getting the syntax and slang right, even if Jack's not really a REAL American because he was born on a different planet in the 51st century and has spent most of his time since then in Cardiff, so actually I can pretty much get away with anything with him...

I can't give an informed verdict since I'm neither American nor familiar with Doctor Who/Torchwood, but for what it's worth your Jack is very entertaining to stalk.

Aww, thanks! I've been enjoying the few snippets of your threads I've managed to glance at too! Wish I had more time to get out and thread with more people, but hopefully I'll get there one day. :-)
