[ It's not weird that their paths haven't crossed - he's been laying low, though not for any real reason other than needing some peace and quiet, and he didn't stay long at the birthday party. Especially not after wading into the ocean and getting sand and saltwater all up on himself.

Normally he'd be thrilled to see her but today his mind is on other things. He turns his head at the whistle, greeting her with a dazed nod. ]
