"A few," he smiles, turning to her, showing her the photos of him with the Doctor, him with his team, him with past loves. "Most of them are bitter-sweet. Good times with good people, but times that are gone now, you know?"

He smiles down at a rare photo that doesn't have him in, just Angelo, smiling, and his thumb rubs tenderly over that long-remembered smile. "On the other hand, some people I've never had a photo of, so that's pretty cool."

"Mmn, I agree. At this rate I'll have more of a family photo album here than I ever did at home."

What with knowing that her mom is actually alive and well and kind of raised her? It's pretty incredible.

"Hey! We should take some photos too! Add to the collection, you know?"

"Me too." A quick shrug. "All my photos were lost when the Hub blew up. I got them all back not long ago, here, and now these new ones too - it's great! Although if we do ever manage to get out of here, I'm going to need someone to code in some copies of these to take with me!"

He... doesn't know the thing about her mom so that's going to be interesting when it comes out!

"You know, we should," he says thoughtfully. "Photos of our new friends and families here."

Now that she's raised the idea, he rather wishes he had a photo of Kitty, amongst others.

That is a conversation that should happen at some point - it's almost strange that it hasn't already, but people have busy lives even in prison.

"I'd like that. You never know how long someone will be around." Both here and home. She's glad she's got so many photos of her aunts and her friends and even Ned. Speaking of...

"...I wanted to ask your advice on something."

It's sure to come up sooner or later!

He gives her a smile for saying what he was trying to find a tactful way of saying, that losing people around here is way too common, and in some cases way too scary to even contemplate. "Yeah, exactly. We should definitely look into that."

And... "Of course," he says easily, tucking a hand under her arm and leading her towards a nearby bench. "What's up?"

Amazing how a man who has no real sense of modesty can be so considerate when it comes to other people. She smiles, happily allowing him to drag her off.

"It's just... I got this photo." She hauls out the picture of her and Ned. "And I don't really know what to do with it now."

It happens sometimes. Not often enough to make it worth getting used to though!

"Ah," he says, as she pulls out the picture. No question as to who the guy getting clingfilmed Chuck kisses is. "I suppose the questions is, how does it make you feel? If it's good memories, keep it. If it's not, keep it anyway just in case your feelings change!" A grin.

"It's not really about how it makes me feel, I guess." She furrows her brows - if it was just about her, this would not be a dilemma.

"I'm more worried about Ton. I don't really want to throw it away, Ned's a huge part of my life back home but I don't want to flaunt it either... and hiding it could really blow up in my face. Don't you think?"

He studies her a moment, thinking it through from his still very new angle of actually considering other people's feelings.

"If you want to keep it, don't throw it away. But you don't have to go to the extremes of either flaunting or hiding it. Just tell him you've got it and that your ancient brother who has lots of experience of regretting not having photos of people advised you to keep it, but that you're not going to be gazing lovingly at it every day and it's nothing for him to worry about."

He shrugs, giving her a slightly wry smile. "I mean, you and Ton do talk, don't you?"

It would be pretty ironic if they don't, after all her advice to him and Ianto!

"Oh, we talk, about a lot of things." So not entirely hypocritical, though there's more to it she supposes.

"Mostly I'm worried that he won't tell me if it's bothering him. He's... not been the greatest about that in the past and I don't really have any reason to think he even considers Ned a problem but... you know. I worry about him. He's been through a lot."

Says the twice dead girl.

He really is getting a big sense of irony here, and he can't help suggesting, "Maybe you two should do what Martha made me and Ianto do - try and share something with each other every day. I'm not saying we're perfect, not yet, but it does get easier to trust what each other is saying, the more you do it!"

She wants to roll her eyes at that suggestion - who are you trying to school here, son? - but decides against it, instead giving it a moment of serious thought. Problem is...

"That would be a very one-sided conversation. I don't know if I have anything left that he doesn't already know."

Except for some mundane stuff that doesn't seem all that important, but that's bound to come up organically regardless. She talks a lot. She asks even more.

"Besides, aren't you reading a little too much into this? Is it really a sign of marital trouble if I'm unsure what to do with a picture of an old boyfriend that I technically never broke up with?"

He's just trying to do his best in what is to him still a very new area, but an area he's working at - hard.

"Oh." He's a little jealous of that statement, even if it does sound like her. It still feels like a long way away from what he and Ianto have managed to achieve.

And then he gives her a bit of a look at the second part. "You were the one who was worried about how he'd react! I'd say it's no big deal, but you made it sound like it was!"

She can appreciate that. A lot, in fact. It's always a good thing when people are working hard at being better.

"Not that big of a deal! I just wanted some input before I do something dumb because I got stuck in my head."

And in true little sister fashion, she sticks her tongue out at him.

The way things are going at the moment, he'd say it's a good thing when people are working hard at being better too!

He just laughs fondly at that little pink tongue stuck out at him. "Well, you've had my input. Keep it, tell him, so he doesn't find it accidentally, and then - hey, how about getting a portrait done of the two of you to display somewhere, something nice and big, so he really does know beyond a doubt that he comes first with you?"

"You sure that's not overkill?" Of course she pictures a full-blown family portrait, painted in oil with all the kids, two- and more-legged.

"A photo could be nice. I don't think we have any yet. How about you and Ianto? Any pictures?"

"It doesn't have to be overkill if you get it done tastefully," he suggests, and obviously, he was picturing a photo, not an oil painting!

"You know, I don't think we have," he realises slowly, and quirks an eyebrow at her. "Know anyone here who's good with a camera? Perhaps we could have a portrait-taking day!"

You gotta dream big, Jack. Oil paintings or bust.

"Hmmn, I don't think so... though it could be worth to ask around." She likes this idea. "I want some pictures of you too. You're family."

He grins. "Damn straight I am!"

He thinks a moment, and then flips open his wriststrap. "There's probably an app for this on our new communicators but I'm far more comfortable with this," he says, tapping a few keys, and then he lifts the wriststrap into classic 'selfie' pose, pulling Chuck in against him. "Smile!" he directs her, and after a few seconds there's the click of a photograph being taken.

She smiles, of course, because she rarely stops smiling and also because that's pretty much what happens when she's around Jack. Selfies aren't really a thing in her time but she knows what cameras do and so she strikes a happy pose, only barely keeping herself from doing bunny ears over his head (because he's too tall).

"Can I get a copy?"

Eh, the bunny ears would have been cute - he wouldn't have minded at all!

He taps a button and a hologram of the photo he's just taken is projected out of the top of it - he even remembered to make it flat rather than 3D, so she'd be able to keep it.

"That's the idea!" he smiles, first at the picture and then at her. "I'm sure there's somewhere here I can get it printed for you."

She'll just have to save them for the family portrait, huh. The picture makes her grin - why haven't they done this before?

"You'd think, right? If all else fails, I guess we could ask the hosts."

Because it's just not the kind of thing he thinks of.

To be fair, it's a long, long time since he had family who actually wanted anything to do with him, let alone wanting their picture taken with him.

"Absolutely," he smiles. "If I can't find anywhere, I'll ask Mary. She seems to like me; I'm sure she wouldn't be averse to doing me a favour or two!"

About time that he has one in that case. It seems to be a pretty common story with the people here, losing their family or being cut off from them in some way. Good thing it's so painfully easy to make a new one.

"Ooh? You got an in with the Big Man?"
