[She can be unusually perceptive sometimes, or maybe it's just her complete emotional honesty that sometimes makes her seem like she understands these sorts of things all too well. Or maybe it's the number of dead friends in her own photographs.] I met an old lady once in town who had lost her cat. I looked everywhere for it and finally returned it to her. It made me so happy to find it. But when I saw her again a few days later the cat was gone again. She said that sometimes a cat will know when it is time for it to die and it will leave. I could not under stand it and it made me so sad. She was old and alone besides that cat but she seemed so peaceful. It made me cry. Sometimes it still does. But I think I understood death better after that. That it must happen and it can be sad without being a terrible thing because it will happen to everyone.
