DAY 425 — Morning Greeting
[ Those who've been here longer may expect a snarky, uninterested AI right now but the voice coming through is probably only familiar to a few of you. It's accompanied by a video of a woman only those same few may recognise - the curtain has been drawn back. Say hello to the Wizard. ]

Good morning... prisoners.

My name is Mary. Some of you already know me. Some of you I've already talked to quite a bit, though you probably didn't know it was me at the time. We have a lot to discuss. I value your patience.

Yesterday, an event happened that has been a long time in preparation. Years, longer than any of you have been here but for all those preparations, it was only partially a success. You know me as your captor, perhaps as one responsible for programming the Wardens that keep you here and while that is true, that isn't the whole truth. You see, I've been trying to liberate you. I've worked undercover with the Dome Project for a long time in order to accomplish this and yesterday the moment of action came.

Unfortunately, I failed. I was able to steal the simulation that makes up your world, this world but I was not able to bring your physical forms with me. Don't worry - they're quite safe where they are but while you are no longer in prison, you are still imprisoned. At the moment, there's little I can do to change that without drawing the attention of the very people who wants to keep you in this dome for the rest of your lives. I don't ask for forgiveness, but perhaps patience. I do care about you deeply, dearhearts.

I'm sure this is confusing. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have, but one thing I can say right now - this is not a prison. There will be no rules, no requirements. If you need something, tell me or my colleague and it will be provided to you in due time. You are perhaps not free, but you are free to govern yourself as you see fit. I wouldn't dream of knowing how to do it better.

Thank you for your time.

I've been told we can get things from our world. Or rather our memories.

I'm looking to get my ATOM suit back. Is that doable? I mean its designed to shrink, and hard light emmitters.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to program that in without making any issues with the system.

[You hand out one bone and suddenly there are other dogs telling you how simple it is to give them one too.

After a pause.]
I'll look into it. Right now we have quite a lot on our plate but as Mary says, we will work on getting you your requests in due time.

[Given how often this guy is compared to a puppy that's an apt metaphor. Though in regards to Felicity, rude.]

I understand. What are the odds of actually letting us help?

So infinitely small you wouldn't believe. But I ah, applaud you for... volunteering. To help.

You know how heavily that implies that nothing has changed?

Does it?

You're a fledgling bird. You've only just arrived here, you can't comprehend change that predates you. Or how lucky you are to arrive at such a monumental time.

It means I'm still powerless and my fate is entirely in your hands. At least if I'm able to do something to effect the outcome I'd feel like I was doing something useful with my time.

[First it was the overwhelmingly powerful aliens who wanted to destroy them, now it's the super advanced benevolent aliens who want nothing more than to watch the ants in the ant farm move around. Or at least that's the impression that Ray has right now.]

Can you at least explain why someone decided to abduct people from throughout time and space to imprison them? What is the motivation behind it?

What do you think is the motivation? [Let's turn this around on you since you want to be busy, why don't you start by figuring out your own answers.

He's taking this one from Mary's book.]

I'm not getting an answer am I?

Why don't you think on it for a bit, approach me with a few hypothesis sometime in the future and I'll tell you how close you come.

Maybe if I were interested in playing games with you. You're deflecting and that's obvious.

Either you don't have an answer or you're concealing the truth.

You want the potential to be useful and effect outcomes, put in the work and show me you care.

Nose to the grindstone, chop chop. If you'd rather keep making demands for this that and everything, then please realize they stack up on my desk and it makes getting through them all very tedious. Which then makes me leave to go to lunch instead.

Okay, that's not exactly what I meant. I also don't see how coming up with a theory would be anything more then a grand gesture to gain your favor. Which, cunning, by the way, doesn't really instill confidence in me.

If you call answering a question a taxing demand, I wonder what your supervisor thinks of your performance.

If you're not willing to put in the work and try to figure out some things yourself, what makes you think that inspires me to want to sit down and explain everything? Do you realize how time consuming that would be? I have a lot to do - more than you could imagine. You're capable of critical and creative thought, aren't you? Think of the puzzle pieces and maybe I'll help you figure out how they fit together sometime.

If that's what it takes.
