Day 414 / Open action
Jack's out and about today but he's starting to like Mistletoe Days less and less the longer he's here. And especially just now – given the current delicate state of his blue-band relationship, getting caught by a bot today just seems like it'll be asking for trouble!

Nevertheless, he will inevitably get caught. A man can't live without his coffee, and he's determined to make up for his binge drinking over the last couple of days (or twenty years) by getting back into his early morning swim routine.

He's kind of looking for Ianto too. A little too nervous to actually call him and get this talking thing started, more kind of hoping he'll just run into him and – well. Things will just happen.

"Ianto leading it...?" He blinks a bit at that idea because, okay, Ianto's perfectly capable and actually very good at organising a small team (and of bossing him around, however little Ianto himself thinks he can) but he can't imagine him leading the whole Defence Force. He shakes his head. "He's a good organiser - probably better than either of us - but he's not sufficiently combat-experienced to lead that side of things."

He studies her, knowing the indecision in her face is echoed in his own. "I guess we both need to think about it. It's not that I don't want the Force to continue, just that I don't know that I'm invested enough in it to take over the whole thing myself. Perhaps we do actually need some new blood, someone really motivated and inspired to make it into what it really ought to be? Or perhaps something different entirely!"

	"So, we'll think and in a few days we'll decide where this leaves us. Maybe this whole line of thinking is just me feeling down or distracted or something. This place can get to you after awhile." "I guess so," he agrees rather emptily, feeling like this thing has rather snuck up on him and yet, in some way, that perhaps it's always felt inevitable too. Everything falls apart sooner or later. Even Torchwood died eventually - though mostly in a far more literal sense than the Defence Force, as in everyone except him and Gwen actually was dead.

On the plus side, he does actually have something happy they can talk about. He takes a breath and lets out the smile that's been trying to break through while they talked about other things. "Want to hear some good news?"

	She's lucky! It is about Ianto, and the smile spreads into a full-on grin as she says it. "Yep. We've talked, and we've... done some other things--" realising belatedly that Kitty probably doesn't want to hear all the details about kinky spankings and all that "--and we're good. 	He gives her the hug gladly. It seems pretty unusual for the two of them to have a good, celebratory reason for a hug, and he's going to make the most of it! "Yeah, me too. 	"Yes, ma'am!" he says smartly, with a grin - and, really, it does feel good to be talking to her like this with no angst at all. He lifts an eyebrow. "How are things with Chekov?" Who knew angst-free was even a setting anymore? She's edging toward happy some days! She smiles as soon as he asks about Chekov. Such a tell.

"They've been good. I mean, mostly good. He's a little further along in things than I am which is awkward sometimes, but I think I want to be where he is. I'm pretty sure. I think I'm ready to leave the past behind." Meaning, her on again, off again thing with Reid mostly, but if she takes her past as a whole it's a big, heavy, complicated mess and instead of dragging it around it would be nice to walk away with just the important parts. "He told me he loved me. A few times. Before the glitch too."

"That sounds really good," he says sincerely. He always rooted for her and Reid at the time, but in retrospect, she and Chekov seem a much healthier thing to root for.

"Oh yeah, you said about him saying he loved you thing." He might have been self-absorbed that morning after the future glitch, but he still remembers they talked about this. "How's that going? He's still not pressuring you to say it back or anything?"

"I just hope..." She trails off, looking thoughtful as she tries to gather her words. "I don't want to be bad for him. I'm still figuring out how to be okay again. He doesn't deserve to be screwed up by that." Not to mention that part where he is really sweet. She knows his life isn't all sunshine though. He can deal with things. He isn't entirely innocent. But she wants to be someone who can be kind and affectionate and giving and she isn't sure if she's that person yet or if she's still healing and hurting and regretting.
