Day 408 | Action
[ So this Bihari cuisine. Of course he has to try it. And he's instantly drawn in just from the smell of it, he loves this kind of food.

Once he tries it he's even more in love. ]

So tasty~! [ And tasty food makes him happy. ]

I wonder how these are made. [ He can probably figure it out, and today he only has one class to attend so unless anything comes up at the post office, he should have time to pick up on some stuff, but sadly not all of it. ] It's such a shame this will only be available today. I wonder if they'd be willing to teach me.

[Miranda is never afraid to try new foods, having lived with such a prolific chef like Jerry has taught her even things that look unusual can be very appetizing--and living where there is barely any food taught her not to be picky. She looks over the carts and wonders which thing to try first. As she sees someone else already there, she decides to ask their opinion.]

E-Excuse me? If you don't mind me asking, um, have you tried these yet?

[ Right? You can't be picky when there's little food available. When he lived in the royal palace there never was a food shortage and Lyrias had a lot of food too, but the rest of his life he's always had to make do with what he could get his hands on. You didn't always get high-paying jobs and all. ]

That one? no, not yet! [ He picks up one of the little balls curiously. ] Have you?

It probably wouldn't be hard to find the recipes in the library.

[Piper smiled a bit.]

If you're interested in cooking, I teach the class at the Academy here.

I can't really make heads and tails of the library, to be honest.

[ It does change all the time, after all. Otherwise he'd have no problems but...yeah.. ]

Oh! Really? You do, Miss?

It does take a little getting used to, but the sections remain mostly the same. It's just the books in them that change. If you see something interesting, you have to copy it down that day.

[She shrugged.]

Mm-hm. I'm Piper. I run the Sizzle & Sear, too.

I'll keep that in mind. I don't go that often but I'll bring some paper with me next time I do.

[ And a pen, he gotta bring a pen. ]

Oh! I've been once, I liked it! I'm Obi, it's nice to meet you, Miss Piper.

[She smiled at that.]

Good! I'm glad! Food made by people always seems to taste better than food made by bots. It was one of the reasons I wanted to do it. Plus, it's always been a dream of mine back home to have my own restaurant.

Right? There's something off with the bot food, it lacks touch. What stopped you from having one before? A restaurant sounds pretty fun.

Back home? It costs a lot, and there are a lot of rules you have to follow to make sure you're doing things right so people don't get sick from your food and all of that. So, I was running a nightclub instead to try and raise the investment capital for the restaurant. The nightclub was easier to get started.

But, here, I didn't have that barrier.

I get that it can be hard to get money for it but are there that many rules for it?

It's great you can more easily go ahead with it here though.

[She nodded.]

Health inspectors come in to make sure the place is properly cleaned, that employees are following hygiene guidelines like hand-washing practices and proper clothing and footwear. They check for signs of pests like rodents and bugs. You have to prepare food a certain way to make sure things aren't being served undercooked, as that could potentially make people sick. If you're doing anything raw, there are even more rules about that, because uncooked foods can sometimes cause a lot of problems if they're not properly stored and maintained. And that's the other thing. You have to keep your food stored in ways that prevents it from spoiling or so that bugs and rodents can't get into it.

There are a lot of regulations and rules to learn and follow when running a restaurant. I used the nightclub as a way to learn about all of that while saving up money. It's been a learning experience here, and I'm always making sure the Sizzle & Sear is following the rules from back home, just to keep it all current in my mind. I still don't want to make anyone sick... even if it's just virtual here, and even if the Wardens aren't really following things as closely as a health inspector back home might.
