DAY 398 | OPEN | VIDEO
[ Have you ever been treated to heavy breathing on the end of a phone call? Well, that's the sound you're hearing now, except there's a video to go with it, which is mostly occupied by Kirk's sweat-streaked, dirt smudged, scratched up face. He looks more put upon than hurt, and from the looks of the background he's somewhere green and up high. He's tucked tight against what appears to be a tree trunk, running a hand through his hair and flashing his best charming grin under the circumstances. ]

So, probably not the smartest decision ever in my life, but I've found myself up at tree and in need of some assistance. If anyone has suggestions on how to make it out of Sector 6 with...

[ He paused and looked down, moving his lips as his eyes flicked back and forth purposefully. ]

Let's say around four very unhappy raptors. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

[ Hopefully everyone got this without static, but who knows, right? He's hoping for the best. Seems to usually work form. Usually. ]

[Mal nods, though most of his attention is on the raptors. He may enjoy this, but he also really loves his horse. No use getting her maimed for his enjoyment. Still, he's holding his own pretty damn well, keeping the raptors focused on him rather than the man climbing down the tree.]

[ It's quite impressive. He shall be sure to mention so later, after he hits the ground, which he manages to accomplish without hurting himself further. Yay! He brings his pitchfork to bear, thrusting at one of the raptors before hurrying his way beside Mal. ]

Coming up!

[ He grabbed the back of the saddle and managed to work himself up with efficiency if not grace, probably thanks to adrenaline more than anything. ]

[Mal continues to ward off the raptors until he feels Kirk behind him.]

Hang on!

[He takes one last swing at the giant lizards before turning Serenity around and taking off. The way he rides, it's clear he has experience with both the horse and the raptors.]

Pay attention. Make sure they don't herd us anywhere else.

[ Oh, Kirk is hanging on. Sorry if he bruises your hips, Mal, but they are nice hips for what it's worth. He keeps his other hand with the pitchfork free to bite at any raptor that got to close. ]

Just keep ahead of them and I think you'll be fine!

[Mal grunts in response, focused solely on getting out of sector 6 without losing Kirk or the horse. Even so, when they reach the threshold, he lets out a whoop as they leave. Dangerous as it was, Mal enjoys the thrill of fighting the dinosaurs. He holds back on the reigns enough to force Serenity into a walk and pats her neck before turning his head to talk to his companion.]

You all right back there? Didn't lose any limbs or the like?

[ Kirk groans and leans against Mal's back, tired from squatting in that tree for so long and the mad dashes. Without adrenaline, his body was less pleased with his physical choices of late. ]

All in one piece, thanks. Though now I think I might really need a drink. Or coffee. Both?

[Mal steered Serenity towards sector 4 in order to stop at Daffodil Dive.]

Pretty sure Chuck delivers both at the Dive. At the very least there's alcohol. Which'll make things a little better at least.

[ You really know the way to cheer a man up after a near death experience, Malcolm. ]

Alcohol sounds amazing, especially because I can hear Bones in my head cautioning me against it and I don't care.

I'm so sorry that last tag was so short. I got interrupted while writing it then forgot everything..

Great. [A few minutes later, Mal halts Serenity in front of Chuck's place. He waits for Kirk to get off before he dismounts himself and loops the horses's halter over a post.

He also helps the man into the bar and sits him down. Mal orders two whiskey's before even trying to talk.]

First encounter with the raptors then?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

haha it's all good

[ He does not dismount gracefully. It should be like dismounting a motorcycle, but it's not - there's a drop. And the adrenaline was finally wearing off, leaving him a little weak kneed. He accepts Malcolm's directions into the bar and a chair gratefully, nodding his thanks for the whiskey rather than something watered down and worthless. ]

Those raptors, yes. Things with teeth trying to eat me in general? No.

Well, that sure sounds mighty interestin'. Space things or land things with teeth?

Space things - in land and water. Every planet seems to have something with teeth, more or less, with varying degrees of civility and tolerance. Specifically for me.

Right. We don't have many things other'n humans. Still ain't used to the idea of there being other things out there. And you don't give off the "come eat me" vibe to me. But then I ain't a dinosaur.
