DAY 398 | OPEN | VIDEO
[ Have you ever been treated to heavy breathing on the end of a phone call? Well, that's the sound you're hearing now, except there's a video to go with it, which is mostly occupied by Kirk's sweat-streaked, dirt smudged, scratched up face. He looks more put upon than hurt, and from the looks of the background he's somewhere green and up high. He's tucked tight against what appears to be a tree trunk, running a hand through his hair and flashing his best charming grin under the circumstances. ]

So, probably not the smartest decision ever in my life, but I've found myself up at tree and in need of some assistance. If anyone has suggestions on how to make it out of Sector 6 with...

[ He paused and looked down, moving his lips as his eyes flicked back and forth purposefully. ]

Let's say around four very unhappy raptors. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

[ Hopefully everyone got this without static, but who knows, right? He's hoping for the best. Seems to usually work form. Usually. ]

Well, I hesitate to say habit. I prefer common occurrence in my line of work.

It was go up a tree, or keep running, get tired out, and get bit. I chose the better of my options at the moment. And no, I haven't gotten cleared to use one.

You must lead an interesting life. [What the hell are you, a park ranger for Jurassic Park?]

Do you need a rescue? [He sounds a little put out, but he also has magic teleporting powers and a sword.]

I explored space for a living, so yeah, I would say so.

[ Some days he felt like it, Nico. ]

Well it was either that or sit here and play chicken a bit longer with something that things I taste like chicken.

[ The sarcasm is coming out, because why is that a question, Nico? ]

[Geez, another space guy. How many were they up to now?

Anyway, how is he supposed to know whether or not you've secured a way out? He's a son of a god, not psychic.]

Fine. Turn your headset around so I can see where exactly you are.

[ He only knows about Chekov, so two? ]

Fine, give me a second.

[ He took it off and turned it about, giving the other a 360 view. He was in a rather tall tree, one obviously thick enough to support his weight. ]

Not exactly GPS coordinates, but it's the best I can do.

Good enough. I just need to be able to visualize where you are. I can be there in a few seconds.

[If he could shadow travel right into the tree, and avoid the raptors, that would be awesome. But his powers are not quite that precise. Shortly after he ends the video feed, he emerges from a shadow nearby. It's not hard to see which tree Kirk is stuck in, judging from the raptors.]

Damn. Sucks to be you.

[He hates to shadow travel again, but he's also not dumb enough to try and take on a handful of raptors on his own. At least with the tree in his sights, he can travel up into it. He aims for one of the larger branches that he can see, appearing from the shadows cast by other branches. And still almost falling. That's a narrow target! He grabs at a branch over his head with a gasp, then looks up and around for Kirk.

[He better have landed in the right tree, godsdamnit.]

[ Well, that was quite the trick wasn't it? He watched, curious, full of immediate questions, but pushed them down because rescue should come first. Priorities, Kirk. ]

You okay?

[ Kirk was slightly lower on the tree, looking up. ]

If you need to drop, I'll do my best to catch you, but I make no promises.

[Oh, there you are. He looks down as best he can while clinging to the branch.]

No offense, but I rather not take that chance. Just give me a sec, and we can jump out of here.

[Moving through shadows is tiring, moreso in the dome. All he needs to get low enough that Mr. Up-a-Tree-Without-a-Paddle can reach his hand. It would have been awesome if it worked, but branches are thin and stupid, and he loses his footing while attempting to crouch down, with a:] Fuck! Shit!

[You said something about catching? That would be great.]

[ Yes, yes he did. He's not in a great position for it, honestly, but he'll have to try his best. His best usually works out for the better, so here's hoping that the precedence keeps.

He grunted as he took Nico's weight in his arms, reflexively clutching the other in towards his chest and core to keep them from falling further down the tree. He looked at the man in his arms and he smiled at him. ]

My, will you look what fell into my lap?

Ugh.

[It's fortunate, probably, that Nico doesn't weigh as much as he should. But he's not fond of physical contact, and this is too close for comfort. But but, shadow travel requires some kind of physical connection (though he prefers just holding hands) so this is an advantage.]

I mean, thanks...

[It's also fortunate trees provide lots of shade.]

I'm going to travel us out of here. What ever you do, do not let go. I can't get you back if you get lost in the shadows.

[It's harder to do without a running start, but tipping them sideways into the shade still works. They'll just tip out on the other side. Hope you like the feeling of your face being ripped off.]

Well, just one more dangerous thing to add to this day.

[ He shrugged, but then they tip into the shadow and he cries out, the pain unexpected and sudden. Thankfully his reaction is to clutch Nico rather than let him go. This was nothing compared to the pain of his death, but damn did it hurt.

He was grateful when they came out, gasping for breath and shivering. ]

Right. Okay. Let's - never do that again.

You get used to it. I won't think any less of you if you choose to sit for a while.

[He at least looks somewhat concerned. He knows shadow travel can really suck if you're not prepared for it. He'll take his own advice and drop to the ground. Three trips in one day, and once with a passenger, made him too tired to care about finding a bench or a chair or a table to drape himself over.]

[ He tossed the other a thumbs up sign before patting at his face gentle, as if to check that all the bits and pieces were in the right place. He glanced over with Nico collapsed and let out a grunt. ]

There a cafe or something nearby? I think we could both do with some real chairs and some food. Maybe some coffee.

Oh. I like coffee.

[He perks up some and looks around to figure out where they had landed. It looks like the park in Sector 4.]

There's a coffee bar.

[It has comfortable seating. He drags himself back to his feet with a yawn and a stretch and starts walking. It really isn't far.]

Um, also, my name is Nico.

[ He pushes himself to his feet as well, brushing himself off and gathering more of his wits and his calm. The pain was receding, at least, but damn if he was going to do that again any time soon if he could help it. ]

Nico. Good to meet you - and thanks for the save.

[At least he didn't throw up. It's always awkward and awful when they throw up.]

Sure. Whatever. [...sigh.] I mean, you're welcome.

[ It took more than that to make him lose his lunch. ]

Right, okay, let's go get that coffee.

[ He gave him a smile though, and there's definitely more pep in his step now that he wasn't nearly being nommed on by raptors. ]
