He also doesn't want to admit to the too much, too soon, too fast because that's how he lives his life and needing to stop in the middle like this because his lack of strength is a harder blow to his manliness than he cares to think about.

All right. [He grits his teeth, and lets him go. What else can he do? He watches Spike's departing back, wishing he had the skills (and Spike had the vocabulary) to suss this out, but Spike's obviously struggling for control and he's probably right that later would be better.

With a heavy sigh, he slides off the table and takes a minute to re-rack the balls and put the cues away, to give Spike a good head start before setting off for home.]
