[ day 393 ] video ;;
[ The camera turns on to reveal a very bored looking John Constantine. Complete in that lovely orange jumpsuit. ]

And here I thought I had gotten myself into the good graces again. Fighting the depths of Hell and restoring souls and all that. Good to see the Almighty and forces of Good really do ride that high horse of justice all the way to the bottom of the ocean. [ Not that he's denying his charges. They're all completely true. ] Let me put it to you this way: if the angels thought I was a desperation move, what makes you lot think rehabilitation would actually work?

[ John sighs. ] I don't suppose any of you might know where a sorry sod like me could find a pack of cigarettes. Oh, and, a proper pair of clothes. Orange was never really my color.

I thought as much. Then again, what being with almighty magical powers or technology really does care? [ It is a fair question in his mind. ] Rehabilitation points, eh? [ Guess who didn't bother to read the welcome mat. ]

A bit fancy, innit?

I guess so. Although up until a month ago I wouldn't have imagined that being a thing at all, save for in stories.

Right. There are things you can do around the Dome to earn you points. In turn they can be used for such things as items from home, or have the Wardens implement something here.

[It's why there are stables in this place. Which Zero, himself, had asked for, granted that was his first time here. Which he has no memory of.]

It really is.

You'd be surprised at how big the world really is outside those rosey tinted glasses. Not to be judge how you've seen life. It is just how things tend to be.

[ He raises his eyebrows. Points. ] Good thing there's not a whole lot from home I'd like. Besides maybe that lighter of mine.

Overly fancy. Just like the rest of this place.

Maybe that's how it often is for plenty of people, I'll agree with that, but I also know very well about how my own world really is.

[But he already did judge Zero.]

If that's the case, and on the opposite side, I'll let you know that some of the more arbitrary things can count as a crime, here, and get you in trouble. Even something like breaking a tree is considered property damage, which can get you punished.

Good for you, then! At least someone has their eyes open.

[ He sighs in agitation. Bloody hell, he needs a smoke. ]

And what is the punishment for crimes then? A slap on the wrist? I might end up breaking a few of their little rules.

[Yeah, yeah. He's practically known since he was born.]

I wouldn't personally know. [Because he's not foolish.] Though I hear it can be plenty embarrassing, if not a pain in the ass, or something else. Though something tells me you wouldn't care regardless.

You still might want to listen to those who have been here for longer than I have. Fighting the system isn't going to get you anywhere.

Not much of a risk taker then, I see. That's fine and dandy. You've always got the ones who play by the rules. [ And usually they are the ones he ends up getting in trouble. ] It's rather hard to embarrass me, mate. There's loads worse than that out there in the big bad scary world.

How long have you been here?

Fair enough. I'm hardly a goody two shoes. [Yeah, really. His job is risky altogether.] I just choose to not be reckless too often.

[He does follow the rules, regardless.]

A month, now. However I had been here in the past for much longer. I have no memories of that time at all.

Now where is the fun in that? [ He chuckles to himself. ]

I guess their rehabilitation didn't quite work out the first time then.

I'm still allowed to do what I please back home. [Now and again. . .] It's that taking risks here is pointless. I don't care to.

Possibly. Or it could be something to do with the supposed virtual aspect of this place; how it could have been a glitch. Not that I want to believe that part is actually the truth.

Too bad you're here and not back home. [ He shrugs. ] What makes it pointless? The bit where we are under the sea, or the bit where we're apparently all convicted felons?

[ John stretches and slouches in his chair. ] "Supposed virtual aspect"? [ Now he wishes he listened to Ritchie a tad more. ]

The punishment aspect. They're harmless, but I'd rather not.

. . .I take it you didn't listen to even a moment of their idea of a welcome notice when you first awoke here. They say that all of this is virtual. Our physical bodies are elsewhere.

["Supposedly." Honestly, Zero knows by now that it's more possible than not (if he's to go by what others (who have been here for longer) say. It's just that he'd also rather refuse that it's true.]

Might be best not to risk. At least not until there's a bloody good reason. [ Jail break? Making a point? Not just giving a damn? All things that John here would do. ]

If our souls are displaced from our bodies, that means a few different things, mate. A whole lot of questions revolving around where the body is, what state it is in, and does it properly matter? So far, it doesn't seem too different from not having a body at all.

So you're another from a world where souls are a legitimate thing, then. [Just a statement. Mostly.] Regardless, I can't say that I know the finer details. I guess save, maybe, for how up until a point, the people here didn't know about it.

They are. Hell, Heaven, Almighty and the Devil himself. Both of them are assholes if you ask me. [ Obviously, he has no love for anyone other than humanity. Even then he thinks humanity is pretty crappy. ] How did you lot find out about it then? Someone hack something they shouldn't have?

[It doesn't matter much in the end.]

I wasn't directly involved at all, nor there when it actually happened, but it had to do one being put into a vampire.

Apart from him and yourself, I don't know what other worlds represented here have them that isn't just in a metaphorical sense.

They say all legends and myths have a truth to them. Maybe the sorties in others come from realities that have them. Or none of it matters as we're in a prison under the sea.

I suppose they do. Although where I'm from the vampires in fiction are more laughable than not when compared to the real ones. Even compared to some of the others represented here are rather different.

You're right, though. Nothing from home really has a standing here.

Oh, we've got our fair share of ridiculous stories when it comes to the supernatural spooky sort. They're just not usually worth repeating.

How do we get back home? They decide we're ready to storm back into society and make nice?

How? Supposedly we never do. We're in here for "the rest of our natural lives," as the Wardens state. Doesn't matter how many rehab points you accumulate.

[Upon arrival. You know- the message you didn't really listen to, John.]

It's likely the reason why the place is so accommodating, otherwise.

Then it isn't much of a rehabilitation, is it? If all you're meant to do is spend the rest of your life here. Unless they plan on extending our lives for some unknown reason.

[ Oh that message! ... He might listen to it again later. Maybe. ]

I'm not really seeing much of the appeal so far, mate. Unless you count the view.
