And here I thought I had gotten myself into the good graces again. Fighting the depths of Hell and restoring souls and all that. Good to see the Almighty and forces of Good really do ride that high horse of justice all the way to the bottom of the ocean. [ Not that he's denying his charges. They're all completely true. ] Let me put it to you this way: if the angels thought I was a desperation move, what makes you lot think rehabilitation would actually work?

[ John sighs. ] I don't suppose any of you might know where a sorry sod like me could find a pack of cigarettes. Oh, and, a proper pair of clothes. Orange was never really my color.

The ones that count, really. The big name ones. Although I'm certain their little minions I've sent back have spread the word by now. [ Potentially padding his ego? Just a bit. ] Busier since the Rising Darkness popped up, mate. Which makes me wonder why they chose now to rehabilitate me.

Afraid I don't know what you're talking about. Rising Darkness? [Sounds creepy; he's interested.] I don't think they care so much about timing. I was in the middle of a quest in the middle of a war. [Shrug. He'd argue against the rehab, but he's actually doing better here...]

As in exactly the Greek God of the Dead. He's kind of an ass. [An ass who sometimes, awkwardly, tries to be a dad.]

Oh, I'm sure you've encountered it in some way or fashion. Evil creeping up and influencing the worst of humanity or bringing out the truly evil bits of reality. Demons, warlocks, even bloody Satanists that marry little girls then murder them and keep their souls for trophies. [ It is still a bit of a sore spot for him, that one. The truly evil of humanity empowered by the forces of darkness. John might be a bastard and an utter piece of shit, but he isn't evil. There are lines you don't cross and that was certainly one of them. ] Ah, war stories. I don't suppose you'd be interested in sharing a few of those. Must be interesting when your supposed father is one of the Pantheon of Greece.

[ Meaning that it is up for airs if he believes Nico. At least, if anything, he's humoring him. ]

I can't imagine a ruler of any Underworld would be peachy.

I doubt it's limited to just my particular little corner of the world. [ John leans back with a shrug. ] It pays to be skeptical in my trade. Not all magical things are actually magical. So, what bit of evidence do we have to prove I can do what I do, and you are who you say you are?

[ He's not going to deny anything. Pretty much anything is possible after the life he's lived... and being under water trapped in a prison. ]

Why would he? Shoved off to babysit the souls of the dead while his brother is all cozy up on Olympus. No doubt there's bad blood there.

If all magical things aren't actually magical, then what are they? [Because if looks like a magical duck, and quacks like a magical duck, it's got to be Frank shapeshifting into a duck.] I have powers, but I don't know if that would convince you. My father's not here to vouch for me. [If he even would.] And I'm betting you have a monitor that's restricting whatever powers you have. Anyway, I never said I didn't believe you.

[He's seen all types come through. And he's prone to taking people at their word.

Some say they are magical items or even magical people, but it is just a simple con. You can make something look magical, seem magical, and most would be none the wiser. [ John shrugs. ] Ah, I was wondering what this ankle shackle was for. It's a bit itchy as well. I don't suppose you've got a quick work around on it.

[ Then he scratches the top of his head. ] I'd need to see those powers of yours to believe them. Don't take it personally, mate. It's how I am with the world.

Lucifer is the evil one. I don't recall Hades ever being more than a bit of a dick.

Ahhh, another bloody day. Brilliant. [ John lets out a groan and leans his head back against the chair he is in. He's got to go around with a literal shackle for a day. Somehow, this has to be divine retribution for sticking an angel in a mortal body for a whole of seven hours. ] Just bloody fantastic.

Apparently under the sea, in a prison, with some bastards who think they have the right to lock people up. [ He pauses. ] Not that they're wrong about my charges. Just, terrible timing on their part.

Not with the First of the Fallen himself. But, plenty of his little minions that skulk about the face of the world.

Huh, well, they say you learn something every day. [ Magical beings all work in different ways. Especially when there are multiple dimensions. Right now he's missing that one that Ritchie had almost lost himself in. ] What else of your normal tricks do they let you do? Even though you're an inmate.

All of them, really. [He shrugs.] But they're not all accessible. There aren't any spirits or dead to raise and command, but I could if there were. [Weeell, there are some vampires and there had been a surprisingly sentient zombie once, but he's not so keen on manipulating the kind of dead that he has to live indeterminately with in an underwater prison with.] I can still sense when someone has died. I can manipulate the earth - though that was never one of my strengths. I can kill plants. [And mortals, and not just with the fancy black sword hanging off his hip.]

But... it's more tiring than usual. I feel like I can't do as much as I would be able to if I were back on my own world. [Which sucks, because his powers took a lot out of him back home too.]

Unless you've got some really awesome powers, you'll probably get to keep most of them. Or all of them.

A bit of a necromancer then. [ He makes a mental note to do what he can to keep the kid on his side. Or at least be in the kid's good graces. Which, will be hard, considering John tends to piss off every person he meets. ] Which then brings up the question how one can manipulate the earth if you're in a virtual reality.

[ John casts a glance down at the ankle bracelet. So, it tends to dampen powers then? He'll need to play around with that one a bit later. After he gets some better clothes and a few cigs. ]

Magic isn't always about being awesome. I find the best bits of magic are the small things that you can use to sway something your way. At least that's how I've kept my head on my shoulders this long.

Something like that. Yeah. [As the only living son of Hades, he feels like he's been maybe overcompensated in the powers department. Not that he's complaining.] Would you believe virtual earth works the same as real earth? Our bodies and powers are virtual too, if you really think about it. I try not to.

[Mmhm, mmhm...] Subtle can be awesome. I don't think it would have kept me alive for very long, though. Go big, or go home. [Or get torn apart by a cyclops. Whatever.]
