[ Okay, full disclosure, Aidan is still reeling from the surprise visit the other day but he has chores to do and things to work out and yeah okay maybe he's doing that thing where you give yourself a thousand things to do so you don't get too stuck in your head but of course that doesn't work an-

He needs some coffee. A lot of coffee.

Aidan can be found scurrying about the dome, appropriately distracted, tripping over kite lines and mainlining coffee. He'll make a stop at the clinic for a checkup, drop by the Athletic Center to practice his baseball throws in a manner that can only be described as aggressively determined and then later, at the end of the day, he'll slowly deflate in the Memorial Garden, planting some heather with great care. Strong, sturdy, able to withstand tough climates... yeah, this is about something. He'll stay there until after nightfall unless someone makes him leave. ]

Three months, just about. [ Something like that. Time is weird. He hesitates a little for this next bit, chewing on whether he should talk to Jack about this or not but you can't feature this much in his shower fantasies and not grow some sort of trust.  ]

It is impossible here... so that makes me wonder if those kids were even real. We ain't from th' same world. If we go home... can she go with me?

That long? [That takes him vaguely by surprise, but then he hasn't really bothered keeping track of time that well here. Ianto could probably tell him down to the second.] But still very early for talking about families, yeah!

I have no idea if they were really real or not. [Even if he suspects they were just some sick sort of joke made up the AIs to fuck with them, he's not going to say it out loud, not when Aidan's so obviously still raw about it.] But as far as I can see, there's absolutely no reason why she couldn't go home with you. Wherever and whenever we were taken from, our bodies are all together now, aren't they? If we can just wake up, we can leave together. That's my plan for me and Ianto, after all.

[ He nods - yeah, three months, which sounds like a lot but feels like very little. It also marks the third relationship he's been in here, if Euphie even counts. So much happen in prison. ]

I'm hopin' it's that easy. [ Or they get stuck in whatever's on the other side. He knows a thing or two about getting stuck in bad places and that was at home, not in another world entirely. ] And, uh... even if it is, there's no tellin' she'd go with me. She got stuff to do back home, same as me.

That's good tho. If you guys can go together.

[If you want to talk about so much happening in prison, how about the incredible polar changes Jack and Spike have gone through!]

Yeah, that does complicate it, doesn't it? Depends whether you believe the story about duplicates living our lives for us back there, I guess. If there are, then perhaps it's not so pressing to have to get back. [He shrugs.] Of course, our cases are different. Ianto only has six months to live and I - well. I guess I'll never know for sure while I'm here, but I was on my way out after my latest memory dump and the way things were I didn't know if I'd come back from it.

[He takes a thoughtful sip of his coffee.] Although none of that may have actually happened. Rebecca told me you ended up back in your younger body over at the pleasure prison? So maybe none of these memory dumps are actually real at all!

[ Oh, he's not touching that. He doesn't like Spike but he also doesn't know Spike, so... yeah. Staying well clear of whatever's going on there. ]

I did... believe about th' clones, I mean. Dunno what that says about me wakin' up being twenty again, but if none of this is actually happenin' then maybe we've really only been here for however long it's been.

[ And then a thought strikes him. ]

What if... the memories aren't ours. We don't leave here, yeah? What if the memories are from our clones?

[Jack blinks, reassessing.] I... never thought of that idea. That certainly could explain it! Although... [He grins.] Aren't they supposed to be better behaved than us, in the wardens' view. If that was my clone, he certainly behaves a hell of a lot like me!

Well, I mean... I guess? But I don't think they can be too different or people would notice, right? Maybe we'd do even worse stuff if it was us.

Yeah, perhaps. [He shakes his head, smiling.] It really is a bit mind-boggling to try and think about, isn't it? However I try to make sense of it all, I never can really decide what to believe.

I do choose to believe the bit about our physical bodies being in those pods, because that makes just about the most sense of any of it. And if that's true, it at least does mean we're relatively safe and not going to die the way we would if we'd stayed back home, and that we're physically all together so, really? The way I see it, there's absolutely no reason why we couldn't eventually leave together if we chose to do so.

Just a matter of finding our way back home, then.

[ He sighs, heavily. That seems to be a constant problem in his life - finding a way back home. Does he remember where home is anymore? Who even knows. ]

I need more coffee if we're going to keep talkin' about this.

[He glances round and waves to the serving bot, the one he's been nicknaming 'Taylor the Latte Boy' ever since the day he ended up singing to him that one day.] More coffee, Taylor. And make it extra strong!

[Turning back to Aidan] Do you mean you're expecting it to be hard to find home even after we've got out? Or just that it's going to be hard to get out? [Which he's certainly not disagreeing with.]

Both, I guess. Do we even know where we are? Maybe it's different where you're from but it's really not easy to just get places where I'm from. You gotta know where you're going an' even then it's a matter of figuring out a way to get there.

If we're not in th' same world even... I dunno. I'm not smart enough to figure that out.

Okay, yeah, you have a point. I'm more focussed on just getting out and going travelling, but... we don't even know what universe we're in. Identifying our own universe and getting back there, if that's what we want, could be difficult!

Our best hope would be to figure out the technology that brought us here. If it brought us here, it should be able to get us home again. We ought to be able to retrieve the coordinates for each of us.

[ Good thing they have Rebecca, in that case. Aidan thinks the world of here, is sure that there's no one as smart as her in the entire dome. ]

I guess we don't have to worry about that right now. [ Which brings him another thought. ] Hey, uh... if we wake up. In our real bodies an' all that... does that mean we can wake up th' people that used to be here but aren't anymore?

[A good thing indeed. Especially with Garcia gone, she's probably their best chance of ever managing any kind of escape.

He watches as the Taylor the coffee bot brings over Aidan's coffee and smiles at the question.]

I should certainly hope so! I mean, the whole thing's more or less theoretical at this stage, but if they really are still there then we're certainly getting them out too!

Why not? By all accounts they're still there. [He quirks an eyebrow for a moment, before working it out.] Your kids might not be, though. The newcomers that day weren't properly processed, were they? Hopefully, they just popped back into their proper existence.

Wasn't thinking 'bout that. [ He shakes his head. ] I'm more worried 'bout people like... Tyki.

[ And maybe Helix but c'mon, he's not going to leave him in a pod just to avoid confronting a messy, long-overdue breakup. ]

Oh. Right. Yeah, good point there. Not quite sure what we do about that.

[A breath.] Of course, there's Spike's soul, too. Lots to think about before we tackle any of that - if we even can!

[ He nods, solemnly, resigned to leave the thinking to smarter people. He can worry and sometimes stumble on a good idea but the whole picture is too big. He's a speck of dust in the universe. Everything is too big. ]

Guess we'll see what happens when we get there... for now though, I'm gonna keep busy.

[The problem of scale is not one Jack suffers from, partly because he's larger than life anyway, partly because he's immortal and gained a slightly different perspective, and partly because he's not really a huge thinker either. When it comes down to it, he's more of a do-er, like Aidan.]

Sounds like a sensible solution. Nothing like keeping your life filled to the brim to stop yourself mooning over something you can't change.

Anything I can help with? Sparring? Swimming? Some kind of sports?

[Once upon a time 'fucking?' would have been on the list too, but he's come a long way since then. Both because of the rules of this place and because of Ianto - and because he's aware that Aidan has a bit of a crush on him and it's never wise to play around with those.]

I was thinkin' 'bout headin' over to the Athletic Centre, practice my baseball throws. You're welcome to tag along if you want.

[ This is probably a terrible idea because having coffee with this guy is distracting enough, being in an environment of sweat and muscles is even worse. ]
