392 - Kite Mingle

[If you're outside today it will be hard to miss all the whimsical, high-flying kites. Might as well get some of your own or spend some time getting them out of trees.]

[Honestly he's mostly out just looking at the colorful kites since Mika doesn't know how to fly one when someone can be heard shouting. He looks over to see Kija struggling with one of the aerial toys. Not that Mika can really help but he does... cautiously get closer.

What's with there being so many people with THAT haircolor?]

Are you okay? [Yes, tiny boy is asking the tall man this question.]

[It is a fabulous color.

He's temporarily distracted and looks over toward the voice. And then down. Oh- it is a child. The prison will even kidnap children?

It is unforgivable to be sure. While still frustrated with the kite, it softens somewhat.]

I am simply learning how to fly one of these. [Holding the kite carefully within his claw. Bending down, he smiles a little. It must seem exciting for a boy still in his youth, he assumes.]

Do you have such experience?

[Yeah, no... it's not.

When that child has a list of crimes as tall as he is, it sure does kidnap children. To be honest this place is nicer than where Mika comes from.

Hope Kija doesn't mind Mika staring at that claw. That is not normal.]

Didn't anyone teach you? [Isn't that a thing parents teach their kids? Though he does guess it might not be something every kid learns.

Shakes his head.]
I've never flown one before.

[He doesn't seem to mind at least. He's kind of used to that reaction. It's impressive, he understands.

To the question, he shakes his head.]

I do not think we have these where I come from. Or if we do, we never had any within my village. [Not that he knows of. Surely he would have noticed otherwise.]

Would you like to try? [They can share, he doesn't mind. It's not as though he's having a lot of luck to begin with. He's determined enough to believe if he tries long enough it will work.]

[He's never seen anyone with such a strange hand. Of course he wants to ask about it but that seems downright rude. Maybe it's just a toy hand...

Blinks up at Kija's face.]

Really? No kites at all? [That's weird - even Mika's seen kites growing up.

Mika's eyes go back to the kite, because he does want to try. A slow nod.]
If it's okay.

At least not in my village.

[He doesn't discount that likelihood of it elsewhere. At least, this doesn't seem like the technology magic that seems to prevail here. Holding it out for him to take, Kija first passes over the handle, before holding the main part of the kite up.]

Would you like to hold and run with it yourself? [He think's that's how it starts...?] Or would you prefer I hold it for you to start, and let go once it seems as though the wind will catch it?

Why not?

[Mika takes the offered kite carefully, making sure to use light touches since obviously this man has been breaking them - he doesn't want to break it either.]

It doesn't matter.

Perhaps no one had the money or the resources for one? [His village was fairly well off, though.]

Most of the technology and items found in this place do not exist back home.

[He allows the child to take the kite completely.]

If it falls, I will lift it up for you so that you can run a little farther.

Was your village poor? [A curious, innocently asked question.] It doesn't? Is this place really weird for you, then?

[Looks down at the kite. He nods.]

Okay.

Not at all.

[He's more than happy to talk about his village, he just can't give away the location.]

My village is doing well I believe.. People work hard, and due to good practice and our self care we have plenty of food and health. Although we do keep rather isolated from the rest of the country. [Out of necessity.]

This place is very convenient. Most of the innovations here are beyond my understanding, and seems more like magic, such as the lights and utilities found within the kitchen. Some of the things found here would greatly aid people back home, too. I wish it was possible to bring them back with us.
