Day 389 | Video + Action
[ Video ]

[ By the time Kirk decides to experiment some with the little device, he has managed to ditch the orange prison uniform and get himself into a normal shirt and pants. The jump suit had been humiliating as it was, he wasn't about to go looking for answers still wearing it. Not to mention orange was definitely not his color. ]

Okay, so does anyone want to actually explain this situation to me? Because so far I've gotten the idea that some rogue AI have kidnapped me and I assume everyone else here. Needless to say, I'm taking what they're saying with a grain of salt.

[ Least because many of the more dire charges were, to him, quite justifiable considering most of them were done while saving lives. Some of those lesser ones he really couldn't argue (like cheating, whoops), but some on. This was ridiculous, not to mention where was his due process? ]

And beyond that - please tell me that we can actually get booze in this prison. I have a feeling I'm going to need a drink to absorb all this.

[ In other words, he is freaking out inside but refuses to show it because his James Tiberius Kirk, damn it, and he is extremely salty over this turn of events. Can't he ever just get a normal shore leave? ]

[ Action ]

[ His "invitation" sent, Kirk continued to wander around the prison - mostly Sector 0 and parts of Sector 1 for the moment as it seems, to him, to be a central sort of place for the prison. It's as natural a place to start as any, and regardless of how irritated he was at the situation, his stomach did not care. He found himself taking up some of the street food. Honestly he should have worried more about things they might have put in there, but if he didn't start doing some sort of activity he really would lose it. Eating was good as anything here, helping him to bide his time and keep his patience.

Don't judge him for picking the most homely food he could find - a corndog and fries. ]

"Yeah, that'd be a lot easier, I agree." Luke replied. Droids might be very advanced back home, but as much as he loved and valued his two droid friends, nothing artificial could ever compare to how a living thing thought.

Luke shook his hand. "Good to meet you." he replied. "Is that a military ship?" he asked, curious.

"Not military - research. Star Fleet isn't a military operation," he explained, something he had been all to proud to defend not that long ago. "We explore the universe and render aid where needed, sometimes act as diplomatically request mediators and such."

He motioned around them.

"Which, I suppose, is a crime."

Luke listened, then nodded.

"There are a few things about it that sound like the work I do. We're called the Jedi Order. There isn't much exploration usually, but we do render aid to those who need it. Sometimes I or others in my group get called to be diplomats too." he replied. "But more often than we'd like sometimes, we also get called to fight and battle for those who can't defend themselves. You can think of us as a peacekeeping force in our galaxy.

"Which, I suppose is also a crime...I think what was said about it being a point of view thing is right. What's our battle to overthrow a corrupt empire is another entity's terrorist group." He sighed. "We know we were doing the right thing, but the intelligence keeping us here seems to disagree."

"Hmm, hate to say it, but we end up doing that sometimes too. We don't get involved in internal conflicts - not allowed, but when an outside threat comes, such as the Klingon, we protect those who need it." He didn't say that some people eschewed their protection, and while that was their right, Kirk would probably protect them anyways. He was that sort of man, and damn the consequences of that.

"I suppose, but I wonder what they would say if we argued that what they're doing is in and of itself a crime. Kidnapping us, charging us with crimes and no trial, especially people from different universes and worlds. I don't know about you, but where I come from there's such a thing as rules and procedures and right to a trial of your peers."

"We do both...it's not uncommon for systems to ask for us to help mediate, and we've had outside threats too. Like when I was pulled here, the whole galaxy was being invaded. We're working to stop it and protect what we can."

He listened, then nodded. "Yeah, I agree. It sounds more like something the Empire we took down would have done. Definitely not a democratic society's way of dealing with things."

"More than that, it seems like a direct violation of a sentient rights in general," he frowned softly. "And now we're talking about stepping on the toes of every culture we all come from, especially when I highly doubt it has justice treaties with any of them."

Luke was no politician like Leia, but even he understood that.

"Yeah, I agree. I wish there was a way to convince them otherwise, but I doubt they would even want to listen. Someone else said they probably consider us insignificant if they have that kind of power. They're probably right. But I can't just do nothing, either."

It would be a stretch to call Kirk a politician. No one in their right mind would assign him as a politician, but he served well enough as an ambassador and feeling things out for the real politicians down the line. He at least made good first impressions. Mostly.

"They consider us significant enough to drag out of our time lines and worlds to who knows where and drop us in here," he pointed out. "I say they see something in us, but then that brings up the question of if this whole 'prison' thing is the actual truth or not."

He shook his head and sighed.

"Out of the pan and into the fire..."

Luke nodded. "That is a good point. Most beings don't do things, especially this sort of thing, for no reason."

He would think of it as the will of the Force, but he knew someone else had to have the will to do it also.

"I have my doubts that we know even half of what's really going on, yeah." he agreed. "And I don't really like it. I guess the question is, how does anyone find out more?"
