Day 389 | Video + Action
[ Video ]

[ By the time Kirk decides to experiment some with the little device, he has managed to ditch the orange prison uniform and get himself into a normal shirt and pants. The jump suit had been humiliating as it was, he wasn't about to go looking for answers still wearing it. Not to mention orange was definitely not his color. ]

Okay, so does anyone want to actually explain this situation to me? Because so far I've gotten the idea that some rogue AI have kidnapped me and I assume everyone else here. Needless to say, I'm taking what they're saying with a grain of salt.

[ Least because many of the more dire charges were, to him, quite justifiable considering most of them were done while saving lives. Some of those lesser ones he really couldn't argue (like cheating, whoops), but some on. This was ridiculous, not to mention where was his due process? ]

And beyond that - please tell me that we can actually get booze in this prison. I have a feeling I'm going to need a drink to absorb all this.

[ In other words, he is freaking out inside but refuses to show it because his James Tiberius Kirk, damn it, and he is extremely salty over this turn of events. Can't he ever just get a normal shore leave? ]

[ Action ]

[ His "invitation" sent, Kirk continued to wander around the prison - mostly Sector 0 and parts of Sector 1 for the moment as it seems, to him, to be a central sort of place for the prison. It's as natural a place to start as any, and regardless of how irritated he was at the situation, his stomach did not care. He found himself taking up some of the street food. Honestly he should have worried more about things they might have put in there, but if he didn't start doing some sort of activity he really would lose it. Eating was good as anything here, helping him to bide his time and keep his patience.

Don't judge him for picking the most homely food he could find - a corndog and fries. ]

A-Ah. Hope has to be somewhere.

[Even if it's found within despair.]

I know it's said that we're here for rest of our lives, but I refuse to believe it. Same with the virtual reality part.

Oh, nothing lasts forever. And I've been known to get out of stickier situations before. I consider this a temporary leave of absence from my ship. Can't be gone to long or I'll miss her christening.

[ Well, the new one anyways. The old one was in pieces, possibly burned all the way up, but he tried not to think about that. ]

My name's James, by the way. James Tiberius Kirk, but call me Jim.

Your ship. . .?

[Consider him curious.]

Kazuki Makabe. It's nice to meet you, Jim, despite these circumstances.

Ah, yes, my space-ship. I'm a captain, in Star Fleet.

[ Is that spilling to much? Does the Prime Directive apply here? ]

Yeah, same. Though I'm still not one hundred percent on what my circumstances are.

You're the first I've met whose world has that kind of thing.

[At least so far. But no. It's not spilling too much. That would be Kazuki, were he to remark on how he's a (the) ace pilot of a "mecha" type craft. Although who knows; he's already told a couple people about it by now.

All of that aside, he seems curious all the same.]

Well, they're. . . frustrating and odd, to put it one way.

Really? Well, I'd be happy to tell you what I can if you're interested.

[ He has to keep to part of the rules of the Prime Directive, though the Directive really didn't cover this situation at all. ]

Probably the nicest way I could put it, yes.

Really? Where would you say the most memorable places you've been to? Or things you've seen? [a beat] What about your own world?

[Sorry, Jim. You've really snagged his curiosity.]

If you do have questions, I can try my best to give you answers.

Most memorable places huh? Do you want in a good way or because something bad happened there?

[ It's fine, he likes it, actually. Curiosity is a good thing in most cases to him. ]

What about my own world?

Oh. . . well, anything that you don't mind talking about.

[He may have slightly grimaced when asked to differentiate. Bad things may be memorable in their own way, but are they always nice to think back on?]

About yours? Anything, I guess. What's it like?

Well, there's been quite a few - haha. It's hard to pick just one to talk about!

[ Well, there's different levels of bad. Looking back, some were rather funny. ]

Uh, well, it's Earth, and as I'm sure you've guessed we're pretty advanced. We're part of a Federation of planets and serve as headquarters for Star Fleet.

That many, huh?

[A little wry.]

Ah- I'm from Earth, too. Specifically Japan. [Or rather the remnants of, and on a man-made island.] That's really impressive, though. Back home we're aware that other planets and dimensions exist, but we don't have the technology to travel that far.

[Just a ways up into the atmosphere.]

It's a big universe. But I think, if I absolutely had to choose a place other than Earth - it's Old Vulcan. Orange-red, dry and hot as hell and heavy, but I always liked it. It had a very stark beauty to it, very untouched even though the Vulcans lived there.

[ Maybe it was nostalgia, for a world lost, but it was a truth as well. He had always liked Vulcan. ]

Iowa, myself, in the US.

And it took my world quite awhile to actually figure it all out. I'm sure yours will as well if you've already gotten out into space at all.

Well, sometimes there's beauty within places you'd least expect it.

[It's something that he, and everyone else in his world, tries to focus on. And to be thankful for all that the world can offer.

He seems a little hesitant, then. Although he's gradually reached the point of feeling okay to talk about the other, far more bleak aspects of his world, he also doesn't want pity. Which is always a possibility.]

Oh. Um. We haven't exactly made it, yet, no. Mostly information from satellites. [Which isn't a lie.

There's another pause as he frowns a little. Okay, then.]

. . . it's more like something and somewhere else came in contact with us.

Yeah. New Vulcan is a lot more volcanic, but it has a beauty of its own too. I can't think of a planet I've come across that I would honestly call ugly. Even York Town is beautiful and it's a colony, not a planet.

[ He was grateful for having grown up on Earth, on one of the central planets in the Federation, but that was part of his drive too when it came to Star Fleet. To seeing more of what the universe had to offer, to see more than just the same dirt beneath his feet, or breathe the same air all his life.

He blinks at the other's tale and he winces slightly too. ]

I'm guessing it hasn't gone well?

It's a good way to go about life.

[Another few moments. The state of his world, how it got there, and the way things have both progressed or not. . . it's an incredibly long story. Even though he doesn't plan on going into much detail, he should gather his thoughts, first.]

It hasn't at all. The beings that found us are very highly intelligent ones from a distant dimension. They destroyed much of the world. The real Japan is gone; all of us left live on a man-made island, which doubles as a weapon. Things have been fairly quiet over the past two years, but we still always need to be prepared for anything.

[War can be like that.]

[ He frowned softly. ]

I'm sorry to hear that. I wish that all first contacts could be peaceful and beneficial, but even in my world we have some species we just can't get along with.

[He faintly smiles.]

Yeah. It is how it is, in the end. We just do what we can, and keep moving forward.
