DAY 367 ★ AUDIO & VIDEO
AUDIO // PRIVATE TO CHUCK & TON

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner about your invitation, but the general and I would be happy to join you for dinner. That is, if the offer still stands.

VIDEO // OPEN
Good morning, residents of MarinaNova. My name is Princess Leia Organa. I'm hesitant to refer to us as "citizens," for we're all prisoners within this facility, regardless of whether we enjoy our accommodations or feel deserving of our sentences. I apologize to anyone who has recently arrived to the prison, for perhaps that makes my question poorly timed, but the influx of new inmates reminded me of something I must ask.

Who is and isn't from a planet called Earth? I am not, and I hadn't heard of it until I was brought here. I come from a world called Alderaan in a galaxy I'm sure most of you have never been to before. [ though some of them may have seen, as has been the case with a few. ] Surely I'm not the only one who finds it odd that an intergalactic, multidimensional serving rehabilitation center favors the population of this one world over those from other systems.

That's what they say. Weren't livable after humans used up all the resources.

Sounds like what could've become of Coruscant.

[ a shake of her head accompanied by something of a grim expression. fond memories of coruscant, she doesn't have them. ]

No. The planet's one great big thriving city.

How's it work then? If they almost used it up. Where'd they get the resources to have... food. Water? Or is it all imported?

Imports, recycling... It's the capital world. It continues to function against all odds, no matter what the cost.

Ain't that the truth. Capitals always flourish no matter how much it hurts the border planets.

[ she hums in agreement. ]

I'm told Coruscant used to be beautiful in spite of all that. A wonderful, welcoming place full of many diverse cultures all living together... But it's not like that anymore.

Oh no? Our central core? Always looks beautiful. Lessn of course you know where to look. Them rich folk don't see any of it... but the rest of us... we know what it's like in the slums.

The Empire doesn't care what Coruscant looks like. All they care about is power and oppression, making sure the power is still theirs and the people of the galaxy are still firmly oppressed.

Ain't that the truth. Though the Alliance makes the central planets look good. Keeps the rich folk in line. Gives the poor something to aspire to. In the end it don't matter. Everyone's jus as oppressed as they were before.

[ it's still unsettling to hear anything called an alliance referred to in the manner she speaks of the empire, but it bothers her less these days. and certainly isn't something to continue bickering with mal over. maybe she would've struck up a good heated argument with the man a few days prior, but now she has han to yell at when she needs a good argument in her life. ]

The regional governors are paid handsomely, as long as they do their jobs and carry out the Empire's tasks without question. Same with rulers of Imperial Worlds. My father was, for a time, held in high regard while they still believed him to be on their side. But the moment doubt was cast upon him, his name — and mine — were shamed and we became their enemies. There is a fine line between friend and foe, and "friend" is a term I'd use very loosely where the Empire is concerned. Your so-called "friendship" is only as good as your usefulness.

Yeah... something like that with the Alliance. An' out on the boarder planets, "friendship" is only as good as you can pay there too. Even then people is likely to sell you out.

[Including Jayne. At least Mal suspects Jayne would sell him out if he got a chance. Hell, that's how Jayne got the job in the first place. Mal paid him more.]

[ there's quite a few within the alliance who think the same of han, that if he was offered enough credits, he'd sell them out to the first imperial informant he came across. but leia knows he would never do that, and she's argued his case more than once behind closed doors to the rest of high command. whether her lover is aware of it or not, she has been his strongest and most vocal supporter since yavin iv. ]

Most planets in the Outer Rim aren't governed by the Empire, but that's not always a good thing.

No? Seems like it'd be the best to get as far away from the central core as possible.

Not when some of those planets are governed by Hutt gangsters.

Don't know what they is, but I'll take yer word for it. Might be like if Badger ran a planet. Or like how Patience runs her moon.

Ask General Solo about the Hutts sometime.

[ because after what happened with kitty and reid, she's done discussing them. han has more experience in dealing with the slugs, anyway. ]
