Day 363 | Open
[Action + Video]

This again...

[With a frown Yuuki can't believe that once more she is sporting not only the dome's most fashionable anklet, complete with built in hunter technology, perfect for suppressing vampire abilities! But even worse she's somehow in the orange jumpsuit once more. Not only that, but she woke up upon the ground in the center of the butterfly pavilion. It's not that she hasn't napped in public before. But she'd definitely remember changing into orange comfortable clothes to do.

Not to mention...her head feels somehow- foggy. She's not really sure how else to put it. What had she been doing before now? Marina is as familiar as ever, but something feels off. Which can only mean one thing, right? At the very least she remembers how to use their communication device. All at once she flickers up onto the screen on the network. With a sandwich from The Bistro in hand (she was hungry and thought it might help clear her head) she gives a small wave.]

So... does someone want to tell me what my punishment is this time? I distinctly remember putting on a performance not all that long ago and that should have been the end of that. I mean- it wasn't that bad. Right? [Don't answer if you thought the concert was.]

Somehow I feel really disorientated.

[Although if she's back in an orange jumpsuit... had she left? But on all those other occasions she had supposedly disappeared she hadn't been forced back into prison gear. Just what's going on now?]

Zero...? And Yuuri-kun, too. Anyone really. What's going on? [The fact that she got a welcome message again... she hadn't disappeared again, had she? And if so... how long has she been away for?]

[She doesn't. Not at all. She doesn't trust herself to speak right now, unsure that the heartache of the situation wont betray her. More than ever she needs the time that walking to him provides to deal with her feelings.

In the past, this was me, wasn't it?

The thought feels somehow ironic. Isn't this opposite? Always she's been on the other side of this. But now... things have changed. Now she can understand the pain this very thing has caused Yuuri in the past. But Zero has always been a stable part of her stay here in Marina. Even when their relationship was far from friendly. Suddenly losing that-- it's like there's a hole in her heart. Fingers lifting, they curl into the fabric above her chest.

Zero...

Up ahead, he finally comes into view. By himself, sitting on one of the benches outside of the athletic complex, she can see him ahead. Her feet slow and for a moment all she can do is watch him. His presence should be felt, particularly from this distance. The anklet effectively blocks such. Her chest seizes up and she draws a quivering breath. It's fine. Everything is fine.

Everything is better this way she tells herself. In the end, no matter how dear...how much she loves Zero, she knows her set path at home. What her mind has decided. He's so important to her, but she can't... deal with Kaname when there is so much between them.

It's clear that Zero recognizes her. While clearly alarmed by everything, its not her status as a pureblood that he's reacting to. Neither is he harsh or blunt. If that's the case, though... what is it that he remembers last at home?

After preparing her heart and gathering her courage, she forces her fingers to relax and unclench. This is fine. She's fine. Everything is perfectly fine she repeats like a mantra in her head.]

Zero... [Approaching, her eyes are wide, the concern clear as day within them as she moves forward. She ignores the sharp sting of the dome sun, her attention laser focused on him. ] Are you okay? I'm sorry that took so long.

[Like him, she also has an anklet. And it's clear that her own abilities are in about the same boat as his.]

[The time it takes is something he doesn't entirely mind, either. It gives him time to think about all of what's happening, as well as over just how quickly he wants to get all of this over with. Not the conversation that's to come with Yuuki, but rather making it back home. Whatever information he heard upon waking doesn't matter. He doesn't want to consider its weight, and the possibilities. There's far too much going on back home. Maybe not to the degree of the way things were with Kuran and the furnace, but that event wasn't the end-all to their circumstances.

Bent over with his elbows resting on his knees, head slightly bowed, he does what he can to keep his thoughts from racing. The last thing he needs is to get ahead of himself.

When Yuuki finally approaches, his attention similarly is caught by the single shackle around her ankle.]

It's fine.

[No apologies needed. He watches her for a moment before scooting over from the middle of the bench so she can also sit.]

I'm as okay as I can be in this kind of situation.

[. . .Which sounds like he knows more than he does about it.]

You sounded like you know about all of this already. How. . .?

[Right to the point, isn't he. By her initial response, there's no way around it. It's clear that she's familiar with this place. Only- it's a lot more than Zero might think. Nodding, she quietly takes a seat beside him. How should she go about everything...?

Tucking her hands beneath her knees, she studies her feet for a moment in silence while she gathers her words.]

I've been in this place before. For quite a while. We both have. Others have too. People you'd recognize. Aidou-senpai, Yori-chan, the chairman... [Her mother and father. A sad smile touches her lips as she continues on.] even Oniisama. [There's been so many others. And yet somehow it's back down to just the two of them again, huh.] All of them have been here before. They've come and then disappeared. But out of everyone, the two of us have been here the longest.

[His eyes widen. By the way her initially addressing the network, and how she had spoken his name, he gathered that maybe he had been here before, but. . . hearing it plainly stated still was startling. So many others, too. Which leads to another bit of confusion.]

I never noticed any of their absence before.

[Something in the way she mentions him catches Zero somehow. How she doesn't use Kuran's name, as she had begun to do at some point along their mission. It hasn't even been two months, yet that point in their lives feels as though it's been longer.

Although, he isn't sure how to bring something like that up. It's not as if she completely dropped calling him as her brother.]

I imagine, then, that the possibility of leaving happens in the same way we arrive.

[Not of their own volition.]

I'm not surprised with Kaname. [The name changes, depending on the moment. As it is, she slips in and out of how she addresses him, sometimes unsure on just how to refer to him. A lot has certainly changed.

His response only makes sense, though. Neither of them have been able to track him down despite their efforts. As long as he's dead set on escape there's little they can do. It's frustrating. But if Kaname has been here before, his disappearance is easier slipped under the cracks.]

Time works a little different here. So that probably accounts for why you haven't noticed. [ He's been around her enough to notice...?] The truth is even when we disappear I don't think we leave this place, though.

[ . . . ]

What do you last remember, Zero...?

Is there any idea of where you end up? You mentioned a stabilizer. . .

[He has to ask first. Although, given her demeanor and the way she states the reply, he can easily assume that she doesn't know, even while she's spent time here before.

It's the same for the way she asks him. It leaves him wary and unsure of what to say. If there really is a difference in time, there's no promising just what she remembers from home, compared to him. . . .Right?

Maybe he'll go with that.]

If time really isn't steady, there's the possibility that ours are different, isn't it?

You wont like the answer.

[Not in the least. She's only just discovered such today, and it leaves her frustrated and at a loss. While she has no way to confirm things herself, she does trust the source she received the information from.

After a pause she glances back up at him, her curiosity still present.]

. . . It's true. There's always been a time discrepancy between us, even in the past. [So where does that leave them now?] The last time you disappeared and then reappeared within this place, you didn't remember me.

It doesn't matter. I feel I should know as much as I can about this place.

[He blinks, eyes slightly wide. He knows exactly when that was.]

I see.

[His chest tightens a little. It's now clear just how risky it may be to give up many details about the "when" he is from. He just exhales silently.]

For me, that was some time ago. [he goes quiet, after, but not for so long where she'd be able to reply again.] I took my memories back from you. It was right as Shouto Isaya was going to turn you back into a human. [. . .] I couldn't let that happen.

[There's a lot she wants to comment to. The fact that he took his memories. The truth about their disappearances. But his last words freeze her up. Isaya-dono was going to turn her human. He tried to turn her human.

Eyes wide she slips off the bench to better face him. No- he had helped them. At the party. For what reason would he?]

Why...? [It's clear she's rattled.] He can't- that kind of thing. I don't want... [Zero...stopped him? Even not having remembered her? How does he know? She's upset, her stomach twisting. It feels hypocritical to be so upset over the fact that someone wants to steal those precious memories and make her human, when she had done the same thing to Zero. But she is.]

I don't understand why he would do that sort of thing. We were just there. At the masquerade. He was helping us...

That's what you said too. You wanted to stay a vampire.

[There's an odd sort of fondness when he says those words. It's off, and bittersweet in a way. He can recall initially how he had thought that that would have been good: two purebloods would have vanished that night. He's still glad that he was able to stop it.

He keeps her attention despite beginning to feel more unsure, brows knit.]

The answer isn't one you're going to like at all. [not even remotely] . . . But I know you don't like being kept in the dark, even if it's something painful. I don't want to lie to you.

[Increasingly the unease grows until it nearly chokes her. What...? Of course she hates to be left in the dark. She's always been shielded for what others consider her own well being. But somehow, the sense of dread and concern that fills her has a strange effect upon her. She's nervous. Part of her doesn't want to hear what he has to say. Not if it's bad news.

The emotions play across her face clear as day. When she can finally remember how to speak, her mouth feels dry as she presses forward.]

Why... is that...?

[He's yet to begin, but already her expression, and the imminence of the way she'll dissolve into tears, is gripping him tight. He wants to turn back, but that isn't a choice available to him anymore.]

He was asked to do so by Kuran, for the sake of your well-being.

[Almost immediately she's shaking her head. No. It doesn't make sense.]

That's ridiculous. [Her eyes search his, too many questions lingering there, but she's afraid to ask.] Nothing about that would be to my well-being. That- no. [She shakes her head.] Kaname... Kaname would be the one to try something like that, of anyone. Why would he send Isaya-dono?

He. . .

[There's no other way around this, is there?]

Instead of hunting down and killing all of the purebloods, he decided to offer his heart to the furnace, stating it would be a more peaceful route. For Isaya, it was a request of Kuran's he was willing to do, as it would make use of his life, which had reached a point where he was ready to pass.

He...

[Her heart drops. Suddenly, it feels as though all the oxygen has been robbed from her lungs. Wide-eyed she stares at him. The words are heard, it's only that she can't process them. Or refuses to. Chest tight, her head shifts with a slight shake.]

But- that's... [Again her head shifts from side to side.] But you- Zero stopped Isaya-dono. You said so yourself. [Before her memories could be stolen.] That's why I-I have to get back. I have to stop him. He can't. I already- [She already has a method for stopping him.

Lifting a hand up to her lips she nods a number of times, turning to the side. Right. As long as she can get back before he can create a new furnace. It's fine. It'll be fine. She can stop him.]

[He does know of her plan. Always so self-sacrificing. A part of him wants to call her out on this, maybe even out of irritation, but the feeling is overshadowed by everything else. In the end it's fleeting, at best.]

Yuuki. . .

No...

[Her vision becomes blurry and she doesn't know exactly when the dam holding it all in broke. Throat tight, it suddenly feels difficult to breath. Unable to accept his words, the mere idea raising bile into her throat, she shakes her head.]

No. [Trembling, her fingers curl into her palms to try and steady herself. Her voice cracks and wavers before she clears her throat and tries again.] You're wrong, no.

[He's not gone. But for him to say such... Jaw clenching, she swallows thickly before her watery gaze finds his. What is this...? A cruel joke...? Even if deep down she knows he's not the sort. Through her tears her eyes narrow into a glare and she takes a step back from him.]

Is this just another means of upsetting me, Zero...? [The frustration and emotion is clear, ringing within her voice, shaking with each breath.] You're lying. [Something he's never really done to her before. The accusation is there, thrown out so easily in the moment despite no basis for it. It's easier than any other explanation. This is the only one she can accept.] You're lying to me Zero. You've always hated Kaname, and now you're lying to me. But I don't have to listen to that.

[Shaking her head she lifts her hands up, shielding her ears as she takes another step back from him.]

I'm not going to listen to people lie to me anymore. So stop it. Stop lying to me, Zero.

[He knew this was coming from the very moment he even considered telling her. Only, now that it's happening, he's realizing he is far from being as prepared as he originally imagined he would be. It's more so her actions that get to him the most. Like a very forceful kick to his gut. It's the way she's looking at him, and how very close she is to sobbing. Not that the way she speaks, and the tone she uses, aren't a part of the whole.

But he has no right at all to feel as pained as she is. This is all his fault.]

I'm not.

[He's quiet at first. His stomach is knotting before he can even really begin to speak again. He isn't going to try and keep her eyes on his.]

No; I never have liked that man. That much is true.

[The sole person who destroyed Zero's entire life. Yet at the same time, it's because of tragedy that he met Yuuki. He wouldn't go back and change it all.]

But even I was surprised that he really did do it. I never expected it.

[But she still isn't going to believe it.

His mouth feels dry.]

I told you because of the very opposite. I didn't want to hide something that has to do with you. Something that's a part of your life which you have the right to know.

Maybe I was wrong to do so, then. Maybe it was too soon.

[One of his hands resting upon his knees curls tight.]

You can not believe me all you want, but I'm not lying.

Stop. [The word breaks, practically begging. She doesn't want to hear any of this. Tears bluring her vision further her fingers curl more tightly around her ears, blocking him out. There are so many things she needs to deal with in regards to Kaname, but he isn't gone. It's impossible. She can't even wrap her head around the idea of such. He's the strongest person she knows, and despite everything that's happened so important to her.

A hand slips from one of her ears to cover her mouth with a sob.]

Kaname isn't gone. [It's difficult to speak without her tears causing her voice to quiver, lips trembling visibly. Her emotions are so raw and honest, even if she can't be truthful with herself. ] You're so stupid Zero. [That idiot. Another step backwards, she continues to shake her head over and over again, unwilling to accept anything. If he's not lying, he's mistaken. Nothing could stop Kaname, he wouldn't just leave her to another pureblood's care. Everything that she's fought for up to this point... it can't have been for nothing.] You're wrong. That person, he-- he wouldn't just leave me behind. You don't know anything. [He had promised her. They had agreed to eternity together, no matter their situation right now, she's already determined to hunt him down and correct things. She can do that. She doesn't have any other choice.] I'm going to find Kaname with or without your help. But I wont let you waylay me or get in the way.

[Only, Kuran would. And he did. And Yuuki's reaction is all but the same. Zero could add on what Aidou had done in order to preserve his body - a sort-of consolation - but he already knows Yuuki still won't believe him.]

. . . I won't say anything else, then.

Good.

[They're clear then. But considering how tense she stands, body ridged and finger nails biting hard into her palm, she's anything but calm. She's so tense, like a tightly coiled string ready to snap. Eyes still bright with her remaining tears she has to give herself a moment before she trusts that her voice is steady enough to talk again.

Everything is fine, she reminds herself.]

Then again, he knows exactly what he decided to tell her is what makes it worse.]

Yeah. I am.

[A partial lie. Although he's always been calm and collected in trying situations. This is no different, excluding what all has transpired between them in only a few minutes.]

I forgot. Now that I'm back, there's something I have to take care of. I have to talk to Kitty-san. But if you're fine, that's good. [That's right. He doesn't need her. He'll be okay on his own.] I need to find her. I should go do that, it's important.

Yeah. Sure.

[He really is able to get by. Being social is far from being a thing he does easily, but that's all relative. He isn't going to be able to learn everything he can about this place completely by himself.

Okay. [She hardly knows what to say. She's still at a loss to everything.] Then I should do that. [Fingers curling, it's still difficult to breathe.]Stay safe. And don't go to sector six.

[Because he needs to know at least that.]

I'll see you around. [She can't linger any longer, or else she really will dissolve. Turning away she lifts her hand up briefly in a small, parting wave, before immediately dashing off as fast as her legs will carry her.]
