Day 363 | Open Video
[ It's easy enough to figure out the headset. He even listens to the message and information before he starts throwing a decidedly scruffy, Corellian-sized tantrum about it to whoever is on this thing that will pay attention. ]

Listen, this is General Solo. [ And isn't he glad he can finally pull rank, if there's anyone here he can pull rank on. ] If this is some kind of kriffing joke, it's not funny. But if it's not, then someone needs to tell me what's going on that contaminating carbonite is illegal, not to mention my fault.

[ Not that he'd think someone (one of the Rogues is his first guess) would pull a prank of this magnitude in the middle of a crisis that includes people getting entenched to power droids, but it would be nice if that were the case. Mostly because then he wouldn't really be in prison and could more effectively yell at someone about it. ]

Hold on.

[ Han pulls away, but in the next second he's leaning down to kiss her. Properly, this time, though he keeps it short. ]

Yeah, that's a lot better.

Later, after they've wandered about the dome gathering the first day essentials and Han's conversed with a good portion of the population (at her insistence, urging him to at least try to make a good impression), they return to her apartment in Sector Four. Her apartment and the furry friend that greats them the moment the door swings open.

The tiny kitten bounds towards Leia, but stops short upon spotting Han. It skitters against the tile, hair standing on end. Trying hard to look intimidating the little animal hisses.

"Oh, don't do that." Leia sidesteps Han, bending down to pluck the disgruntled kitten off the ground. She holds it close, stroking its fur. "Don't let the Wookiee smell fool you — he's a friend."

He's probably had longer and weirder days, but he can't really think of a good example at the moment. Chewbacca might remember one, but he's not here. And he's not at all sure the impression he made was good, but probably better than nothing.

Sure isn't make a good impression on that cat.

"You're kidding me. They take me, put me in a flight suit, and none of this is even technically real, but I still smell like a Wookiee?"

That's just insulting.

Leia's too busy holding the kitten up, above her head and murmuring nonsense to it to notice Han's comment. (He doesn't smell like Wookiee — but he should. She won't tell him how odd it is that he doesn't.)

"Now," she turns, holding the kitten out towards Han, "you two are going to have to learn to get along."

The kitten clearly disagrees. He hisses unhappily, tiny paws out displaying his tiny claws.

"I'm not the one hissing," as if this is a question of his character versus a cat's. "Where'd you get this, anyway?"

Said as Han reaches out fearlessly to try and scritch the top of said cat's head, only to have the side of his hand gnawed on for a moment before he pulls his hand back and narrows his eyes at the furry little thing in Leia's hands.

"He," the princess amends. "And his name is Gold Three."

Which doesn't explain how she got him. But her friend has been missing in proverbial action for less than twenty-four hours, and Leia doesn't want to open up a new wound when this morning's still stings.

She shifts the kitten to her shoulder, holding it in place like one might do an infant. Her free hand is extended out towards him.

"Let me see."

Han holds out his hand, eyes still on the cat.

"Gold Three?" It's not that he's judging her, but he kind of is. Just a little, and in the sense that he finds it to be very reassuringly her.

"I've had worse than a bite, it's fine."

She doesn't seem convinced, but drops her hand and glowers at him in both disapproval and warning. It's possible she looks a little too much like a disgruntled child with her hair twisted back into twin boxer braids.

"Yes, Gold Three. What's wrong with Gold Three?"

"Nothing," and he pulls his own hand back to look at it -- no blood, just a few evenly spaced welts -- and reexamine his approach.

"It's cute."

Probably the wrong approach, but he's not lying either.

"It's not meant to be cute." A sense of déjà vu washes over her as the rebuke leaves her lips. "It's meant to be fierce. I had a bright pink pittin as a child. I named it AT-AV. Why not call this little guy GT?"

She holds the kitten up once more. It mewls softly at Leia in obvious adoration.

His eyebrows raise at the mention of a pittin named AT-AV, but he's not going to walk right into this trap. At least not any further than he has already. On second thought, he's gonna run right into it, because at least that's familiar.

"Yeah, that little guy is a regular Togorian." Han turns his attention to the cat itself and holds out a finger to point at it, as if it did not just bite him. "Don't try anything."

Not like he's actually jealous of a cat (there were other beings to occupy that space in his mind at the moment), but maybe this is how she feels every time he fawns over the Falcon.

There are certainly similarities. Especially those rooted in feeling ignored when she's trying to engage in a meaningful conversation with him and he's too busy patting and talking to the dented hull of his ship to listen to a word she's saying. (Or so she perceives it that way. It's silly to be jealous of a ship, yet at times she genuinely is.)

Leia chuckles as the cat growls and swats at Han's finger. No claws this time, just a swat in attempt to get the digit out his furry little face.

"I was lonely." Not the first time she's admitted to that today. GT darts into the kitchen once Leia sets him on his feet. "Having a pet made this apartment feel a little less cavernous."

Han is still jealous of Luke just for being close to Leia in a way he can't be, so it isn't like he has much room here on the other side of it. Hasn't stopped him yet, though, and he watches the kitten run off hoping it won't be too much of a problem later on.

And he can't stay very mad at a cat, even a cat that apparently hates him, when he knows what the other options for her loneliness were.

"I like it--," as he leans over to kiss her temple. "Him. And I'll like him better when he doesn't have a target on my head."

Leia leans into his touch, sliding her arms around his torso to pull herself close. She rests her head on his chest and inhales his scent. It may be lacking that distinct Wookiee musk that clung to him like a second skin thanks to the amount of time he spent in the presence of one, but it was still him. And far more comforting than he would ever know.

"He'll adjust," she tells him. "You're new. I've never had anyone over. He probably doesn't know what to make of someone else being here."

"Of course he will," as he wraps his arms around her shoulders.

Every time she says something like that it hits Han again from a new angle just how alone she's been here. At least for the year he'd been gone she'd had Luke and the rest of the rebellion, High Command and missions and who knew what else, she'd even had Chewie. But this place? Just her, a pilot neither of them knew, Luke for a moment, and then strangers.

"The little fuzzball won't have much of a choice."
